FYI I have the MX-150THX and starting having the same popping sound as others have reported. I found that the bottom magnet on both of my woofers had separated from the woofer. I just used a glue gun and problem solved. Hope this helps someone.

I would have a hard time believing that Hsu Research speakers will be better sounding than a set of M&K 750's. I'm sure the Hsu Research subs will compete in every way with the middle of the road M&K subs but the satellite speakers, I highly doubt will compare. Other internet direct companies like SVS, Axiom and I believe NHT, will have some larger speakers that will have greater output than the 750's and the reviews on sound quality are good as well. When it's all said and done, I shop for value and at $600 for a set LCR 750's, I would pull the trigger. Make sure you leave room in the budget for a separate amplifier since they are going into a fairly large room.

Already pulled the trigger two days ago. $515 shipped for the front 3 750thx. Now to find him some surrounds, going with dipole since its a narrower room.

I have a set of Triad Silvers I might let him borrower until I find another set.

Do the 750's need a lot of juice? He will not come close to reference levels.

They accel with a lot of juice (amp), but will also perform well with a high-end AVR.

Get the SS-550 THX's. They work great with the 750's

I concur. Love the SS-550's. If you can get a pair in good condition for under $400 jump on them.

Agree 100%. I will say though, you will never get what you are truly meant to get with M&K's until you get a separate amp.

I have an Emotiva XPA-3 setup with my Triad Golds. Once he gets his receiver, ill run the 750s with and without the XPA-3 hooked up. Let him decide if its worth it to him or not wink.gif

As for the 550s, I'm looking for some OnWall Dipoles for his surrounds. Seating will be to close for direct surrounds.

I have had my M&K S-150 system and dual MX-350 subs for over ten years and they are still rocking. I have had a love for M&K since the mid 90's and am still sad the true owners are no longer running the show, but I digress. Lately, My MX-350's have been acting up. It seems the toggle switches on the back don't stay engaged. I was playing with some settings tonight and got loud thuds/thumps on the phase and THX switches and lost a ton of bass. Fiddled with the switch, got a thud and it came back, but slowly left again. It seems to not want to reengage. Has anyone had this happen? I am tempted to call Ken to see if he has any advice, but am afraid he might talk me into trading my dual babies in for some of his latest creations!! 😊 They have piqued my interest for sure! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Look for some SURR-55 Tripoles! They'll be timbre matched to the 750's. Expect to pay a little more than 550's, of course.

I've actually heard that the new company is very willing to help service the old company's products. I've even heard on some occasions that they honored the old 10 year warranties. Maybe calling them would get you some help if you're afraid of the upgrade bug.

I have this exaxt same issue with my MX-350. I've found if I get the switch just right it stays where I want it. I've been tempted to remove the amp plate and see if there's just a wire that's loose in there but never got around to it. Let me know what you find out.

I was wondering if anyone happens to know the details of the drivers for the MPS-1611. I believe the tweeter was proprietary to M&K, model Z14, but haven't been able to find any info on the woofer. In case you're wondering, it's because someone on eBay is selling them without drivers so I'm trying to figure out if it's even remotely possible to buy them and find the drivers...

That's a good question. I would be interested in hearing any owner opinions regarding the MK Sound MX-350mkII subwoofer and the MK Sound MX-250 sub as well. I am still running my pair of the old school MX-70s in my AV set-up.

Put them in the classified section on here first. I got some nice response when I did, and it's free! Secondly, I would recommend Audiogon.com. There are a lot of audioholics that troll around on there.

Will, I chickened out and didn't sell. I am still enjoying my M&K's. In the past, though, when I ship something from an online sale, I just take it to the UPS store and have them give me an estimate. They have all kinds of packing options. It's kind of a pain, but it let's you be accurate with the potential buyer.

I wish I could take those speakers off your hands, but my yearly budget for HT is spent already. LOL!

Russ, darn! Well for anyone else who is interested and willing to help me organize shipping: I've got a pair of S-125's, (with stands) C-125, Surr 55 Tripoles, Surr-55's (new in box) MX-125 II push pull sub, and M&K wall mounting brackets for sale. I've been the only owner, and am not looking to gouge anyone. These are in better condition than you find most gear. Pics upon request; no lowball or tire kickers. These will make someone very happy...

Had a Z-16 4ohm blow out on me... anyone by chance buy some at the various sales and have extras they'd be willing to sell off? (heck at this point I would take a Z-11 4ohm as well I guess hah)

Anyone have some suggestions on good subs to pair with a S-5000 front sound stage(L/R/C) and if the S-5000 is okay to position horizontal? When I first got my L/R set ages ago I thought the person mentioned that they are all suppose to be vertical?

Correct they should be vertical, here's a snip from the S-5000 manual..

speaker will hear a compromised sound quality, an irregular frequency response, as well as some other problems.
While this may be acceptable for background listening, we strongly recommend that you do not place them on

Shielded was needed back in the day for direct view and CRT TVs. The speaker's magnets would distort the picture if placed on top or close to the TV. Shielding the magnets blocked this effect.

I'd like to sell the S-125's LCR together, they're in great shape and it pains me to break them up. The idea is to get someone a great deal on M&K's that I've enjoyed so much over the years; facilitating my next purchase. It's not only about money...
