Mine are not the MK II. What is the difference?
I just put my babies and basically the holy grail of M&K up on Audiogon. My beloved S-1C.
Just thought some folks might be interested.
And yes, before I get asked (I always do), that is Henry Rollins in the picture.
Need some advice.
I currently have K7. To me they seem very dynamic and open. They are edgy (some might call this bright), but not to the point of fatiguing me or making me grit my teeth. Yes, I know they are lower end.
I had the chance to play with 1 single s-100b, but while it sounded a little more 'realistic' and 'deep' it didn't seem to have the dynamics (It just didn't seem to have the higher frequency and wide sound that the K7 had).
So my question is this. I have the chance to get either of the following setups, and I wanted to know what would be my best bet for 80% movies 20% music. Music is important, though, as I am a musician.
I can get either:
s-100b for LCR and sides, with maybe the k7 or k4 in rear.
LCR 850, LR550THX on the rear, and SS500THX (dipole) for sides. This or I can put the dipole in the rear and the other on the side, as I've read most people prefer dipole in the rear. With this setup, I could get the 650 instead of 550, as I know those match the 850 better, but the 550 and 500 are cheaper and have dipole.
I guess my questions is would the s-100B be as good as the 850 setup? I would much prefer to go with the s-100b (probably just because I think they look cool and I could pretend I have s-150s), but I just want to know what the differences would be sonic-wise, if anyone knows.
It was a situation where I just don't listen to as much music any more, and the S-1C were pretty rare and worth a pretty penny.
I ended up finding a deal on s-150 for the left and right mains, and I have a s-100b for center. Doesn't seem perfectly timber matched, but it's working. Now I just need to either use the K7 on the rear or find some used s-100/s-100b.
The K7s, I just happened to have had to begin with. It wasn't a matter of the K7 over the S-1C. The K7 were going to be phased out one way or the other.
I found an s-100 locally for $150, but I fear I might not find another to match it, and having one s-100 and one s-100b on the rears might be a tad off. But, being rears, I might not notice it, either.
Now, the big pain in the ass is finding wall mounts. Especially now that I am tapped out. Does anyone have any suggestions on wall mounts for s-150/s-100b? I know about ST and Omnimount, but it seems damn near impossible to find the omnimount. Has anyone found a recent third party solution? I was thinking perhaps some type of vesa mount for tvs might work since they have numerous holes, can tilt, and can hold heavy gear.
