Official Mitsubishi LT-46131 & LT-46231 (46" 1080p LCD) Owner / Discussion Thread - Page 55

I'm a bit bummed that new contributors to this thread will slow to a trickle. I just received word that it is true that Mitsubishi has discontinued these LCD models. They are apparently announcing new models next month.

To be honest, if I were still looking, I don't think I'd wait for their next models. My LT-46231 and the LT-46131 I had before it, have been great so far. I have no regrets at all.

After waiting for Sony's, Samsung's & Sharp's 1080p LCD TVs and reading about (and seeing) all of the problems with them, I wouldn't bet on Mitsubishi getting lucky with their next models, especially if they switch to a next gen panel. It seems like most panel maker's latest generation panels are the TVs with the problems. This may be a case where the previous generation is preferred. Owners of the LT-46X31 LCD TVs may start getting asked to sell theirs at a premium.

So what is the verdict on firewire harddrives? There seems to be conflicting information in this thread. Will any firewire enclosure work? Or does it have to be a the special AV Disk hardware?

Has anybody using Comcast been successful in pulling off a cable card install without major issues. I noticed a ventilation fan in the back of the unit that's dedicated for the cable card. Does this run continuously, and if so, how loud is it?

AFAIK, there is no fan in the 46131/46231...anyone know for sure?

I use a DVR, so no cable card for me. I've never heard any noises at all with my LT-46231, so if there's a fan, it's quiet.

I have a cablecard and have never heard a fan with the set on or off. Don't have Comcast so can't answer that part of your question.

Is This Normal With The Lt-46131 Tv. I Have The Oppo Dvd Player That Does 1080p Via Hdmi. On The End Left Side Of The Screen Going Vertical I Notice Two Rows Are Missing In 1080p Mode TO Fill Up The Tv Screen And On The Bottom Left A Little Spec Present Of The Missing Row. At 480i ,480p,720p, 1080i The Two Are Fill Up Again. This Only Happen In 1080p Mode. It Also Does That On My Ps3 In 1080p. Please Check If Yours Does This ON YOUR TV GUYS.

When I feed 1080p into my Mitsu from Blu-ray, HD-DVD or Oppo it works perfectly. Missing rows sounds a bit strange coming from a component or hdmi source. The only problems I've ever encountered filling the screen came from VGA and a setting in my PC corrected it. I've never experienced that before and I use 1080p sources everyday, I too own a Oppo DV-981HD. I picked it up last week and it works flawlessly in 1080p. I would recommend calling the manufacturer.

All you have to do is look behind the set and the ventilation fan is there, and I'm almost certain it supports the cable card, as it does not operate at any other time.

It's not a problem with your DVD player or PS3. It's the television. Mine does this as well when displaying 1080p. This was not an issue with the other LCD's I tried before the Mits, so I know it's TV specific. If you read though this thread you will find many other reports of this happening. You can't see it unless your right in front of the TV, so for those that haven't noticed it, could you look very closely at the bottom left corner when playing a 1080p source. Also, when you do this make sure the entire screen is filled with an image. If you try to see it while playing a DVD or Blu-ray disc with black bars on the top and bottom, this will mask the small spec of pixels from the missing 2 rows.

I have Comcast and a CableCard. One minor difficulty during installation, the tech did not activate the card properly the first time, and my premium channels did not display, but quick return visit remedied that.

The CableCard works reasonably well, but occasionally (once a week or so) my premium channels will not display, and I have to remove and reinsert the card to force it to reinitialize. TVGOS works ok, but it is slow. I could not find a couple of channels in the guide setup, and it takes some effort to organize the guide to eliminate unsubscribed stations.

I just purchased this combo for my beach house. Let me tell you after using AVIA for calibration of the colors, etc. this combination is fantastic (be sure to turn down the backlight, it is way too bright). I set the Sony to upconvert to 1080i and let the Mitsu perform the deinterlacing.

The picture is stunning. Even my wife, who is absolutely a non-videophile made a comment on how good it looks.

Watching DiscoveryHD Planet-Earth last night was breathtaking. The clarity, color and detail was everything I could have hoped for.

For $109 at CC, this Sony DVD Player is a great match for the 46131. It does not have any of the Macroblocking issues associated with the Denons or other Faroujda based players. You cannot go wrong with this combo. It is quite cost effective.

In my home HT, I have quite a nice setup to compare with regard to picture quality. The Mitsu/Sony combo does not disappoint.

I know alot is written on this thread about technical stuff but bottom line this is the best tv I have ever owned and I am a tv-oholic...LOL....Planet Earth takes my breath away....the coat on the Polar bear....the blues in the Icebergs.....I even noticed something while watching the often trashed TNTHD...I was watching an episode of Judging Amy and a young lady was testifying....she had spots on her shirt like she had dripped something on her....I never noticed anything like that...

The opening shot of Vegas on CSI is also thrilling......knowing its all about the blacks makes me realize again I made the correct decision to return the LG I purchased initially and up grade to my LT-46231....

Alright, I am an impulse buyer and didn't do as much research as all you have done. I went to buy a new TV and based on what other owners were yapping about, I was going to get the Sony. I have also had much success with Samsung in the past for many years and the Samsung was on the table. I had no idea about the Mitsubishi.

Long story short, I have had my 46131 for a month now and love it. I don't have no chirping but do notice the little line issue once in a while but would have never noticed it until I checked here. The reason I checked here is I went home with the 46131 after the the salesman told me to compare it to the others in the store. How about that? The salesman was right. He sold me on it against the more expensive Sony. I got home and did some searching and found all your posts.

For me, it was all about how the picture looked as many have already have posted. I have some old equipment, but it is all working great.

Anyone waffling on whether to get this TV.... I'd get it now before you can't get it.

....first night with the TV (131). Seems like I will be very pleased with it.

Went to plug the cable coax directly into the set to watch "The Shield" (for me channel 40). Unfortunately, I only get channels 1-13 (old vhf) via direct cable connection (ant1 or ant2, same result). I can watch channels 14+ (old uhf) through cable box/vcr set to output via channels 3/4 but can't get it through the TV itself.

I looked real quick through the manual (and this thread) and didn't see anything that would help remedy this for me. Any thoughts to help a newbie out? I just want to get my additional 14-72 (analog) through ant1/ant2 without going through something else first.

I will be getting a cablecard installed on April 9, but hoping that the difficulties I am having now won't force me to use a cable box in the future. Thanks in advance for any input.

In your 46131 manual, page 48, Setup Menu. Select Ant-1 Cable (Ant-2 Cable if that is where you connected the coax), then press Enter. It will memorize ALL the channels on your cable. As the manual says, it can take up to 15 minutes for the TV to complete channel memorization because it does analog and digital. No way I know of to make it memorize just the analog channels.....I guess you could stop the process when analog channels are complete (it tells you on the screen).
Enjoy!
to stop it after the analog are finished, you have to hold down the power button and make it turn off. then you can turn it back on and watch the analog channels

I purchased the 46231 last month (actually traded in my 37" for the larger model) and the picture is breathtaking and I've had absolutely no problems with it except the chirping sound. The tv store (not a big box but a specialty tv store) sent someone out and he said it needed a new board. I'm not sure what a board is, but he said I should just ask for a new tv. The store called today to say they wanted to come out and repair it, because they won't get any more in until the end of April. Does anyone know what a board is and is it a major repair. Would you insist on a new set? Other than this high-pitched noise (not terribly noticeable) it is absolutely perfect.
If you search this thread, you'll see that people who have had this fixed had their power supplies replaced.

He must be referring to power supply circuit board. As mc2wheels pointed out, others have had them replaced, apparently with no problems. If you like the TV, I would recommend asking for repair. If the problem persists, then insist on replacement

Just got my 37131. Love it. Q: for now I only have OTA HD, via ANT-1. When I press the Info Button, I get the Status Display. I would have expected this to show the source resolution, such as 720p or 1080i, but it only shows "16:9 HD". And this is consistent with the Owners' Guide. How can I figure out the source resolution?
oops, wrong forum! how did that happen? newbie.

Hey guys, I've had my LT-46131 since Jan 23rd and it's been great without any issues until recently. the last couple times I've turned it on, it's displayed a completely WHITE screen with no sound or pic and when I try to use the remote nothing happens. I have to turn it off and on again to get it to work. Any ideas?

What is the chirping everyone talks about? I get a couple of "click" sounds when I first turn it on but it goes away. Don't know if that's the "chirping"?

Anyone have any comment on this? WIth the local compusa clearing out its inventory they have some decent deals on Firewire harddrives.
