And just yesterday I found a BENQ DE350 on Ebay . The main concern I have is will these units be compatable with Direct TV EPG....esp the BENQ which says it's tuner is PAL and not NTSC???
First, a PAL machine is not intended for the U.S./Canadian market. Avoid it.
There are some threads here on Polaroid recorders. Do a search if a model is of interest.
I have DirecTV and all my DVD recorders are Pioneer. If you go with the 640 you will be able to schedule programs through your DirecTV receiver then have them automatically record on the 640 if the 640 is turned off and the auto record setting selected. If you want to record something while the 640 is on (because you are watching something already recorded), what you have scheduled on your DirecTV receiver will only record if you scheduled the recording on the 640, too.
I personally would not buy a new DVD recorder on eBay *unless* it is an older year model, no longer available in stores (read: Pioneer 520). Many manufacturers will only honor their warranty if it was purchased through an authorized reseller. eBay can mean goodbye warranty.
