Taito Floor Model Retro Arcade Game

Does anyone have any experience with the Taito Floor Model Retro Arcade Game like the one from overstock.com - for the price I would be interested in adding some MAME titles...

It was available last year at BJ's wholesale club. It is much shorter than a typical video game, but is much better put together than the ones that were on sale at Target last year. I do now know the innards, but I would guess that it is a closed system so any additional games would not be addable at all.

You could probably hack the monitor and connect a computer with a video out port, but at that price, you could buy a used cabinet from a arcade company for less money, and put in a better monitor yourself for less money.

good points - I read "21-inch monitor and intel processor" and thought decent monitor and some type of standard computer. A closed system would be worthless to me.

I have several URs and CTs and would want my MAME machine to match in size and construction with these.

thx,

Hi there...First post...

quick question for you reedl...or your opinion...

The description of the item says "fully upgradeable". In your opinion If it is a closed system, how would you go about upgrading it? CD Rom maybe? I'm just trying to make another mame cabinet with less work then the first...Thanks for any responses....

A second look at it tells me it is one of two games. It could be the one with just the few games and was the one at BJ's. There is no expansion on that one.

The second one is the system from Arcade legends which has some games, but you need to purchase the games from the company that makes it. Those "packs" are very expensive!

Either way, it is not a standard PC with windows or DOS or *nix. It is a closed system.

Thanks for your reply...

Yeah I guess that would make it way to easy for me

Oh well I'll just have to get another used cab for my next project.

Thanks again..

Well I ended up getting this taito unit. I figured worst case scenario I can give it to my nephew as a Christmas present.

Can someone tell me if this is a regular jamma connector...It has a sd card slot., which is how its "upgradeable"The card has a .img file on it but I'm not sure how to get into the image. I tried to mount it with daemon tools but it doesn't recognize it. I would like to get mame on this machine somehow. I was hoping the easiest way would be to somehow get it on a 4gig sd card and use the same board or even add additional roms to the actual image that is currently on the card now.

I guess my main questions are if I can't get the current board to work is it possible to do a pc to jamma setup?

Any help would be awesome...I can email the image file to someone who thinks they might be able to get into it.

I will put some pics in this post as soon as I get more then 5 posts..

thanks

Can you provide a link to this on overstock.com? Searching for "Taito Floor Model Retro Arcade Game" yielded lots of bad results. Thanks.

I'm wondering if it's the same thing advertised in this weekend's JCPenny flyer...

Here is the link...It's out of stock right now and the price varies but it is always cheaper then the local stores..

here are the internal pics..

I was wondering if I cant use the jamma card that's in it....if this adapter would work with a different pc..

Thanks, the JCPenny one is actually a Midway machine...has Joust, Satan's Hollow, Defender, etc (better games in my opinion)...but is a much cheaper looking machine compared to the Taito one. Of course, it's only $300 or so, compared to the $1000+ for the Taito.

Hmm. Is this Hanaho as in Hanaho Games?

Interesting.
I wonder is Hanaho Games makes the cabinet?
If so, it would be a pretty good quality.

I am trying to find some more info like a manual and pinout...and someone looking to get rid of just the pcb...would be very cool to be able to load different games into its sd card and have a mini-multicade with your choice of games!

I will keep everyone updated as I make progress in doing such. I have found a good review of the machine itself....seems prity decent for the most part...but I cant post it because I dont have enough posts yet...I will as soon as I add those up though.

I tracked down a PCB from the neo-geo version of this cab! I have mapped what I could of the pinout of this thing (I have a board but no cab and hence no original wireing loom). Here is what I have found so far.

I am also still looking for an image of the flash for the taito version so I can compair them...and hopefully change the game choices (add more games) and options (such as dificulty settings).

Here is a good review I have found for the system as well.

It doesnt get any easier than this for PC to Jamma setups

http://www.ultimarc.com/jpac.html

Bye the way those Midway cabs that are being sold in department stores are a real joke that are about as far from the real games they try to emulate as you can get. Im not sure what roms sets they are using but they are not even close to the arcade origionals and the cabs themselves use buttons and sticks that are a far cry from anything used on any arcade machine.

My advice would be to buy a real cab from a route operator for little or nothing and build youre own MAME rig, it can be done for very little money and will be as true to the real thing as you want it to be .

If you need any real arcade parts Happ Controlls is a decent place to start

How ever you guys go have fun and happy building/playing

I recently got the 10-game Taito bartop version. It's quite nice.

Like others in this thread, I'd like to see if it's possible to make changes to the disk image (to remove the distracting background in Space Invaders, for example.) After some tinkering with that master.img file, it appears that it is really a simple zip file (just copy it and rename the copy to master.zip, and attempt to unzip it.) However, it's a password protected zip file. You can at least find out the filenames this way (for example, .rom files for the games, and the .bmp file for Space Invaders that I'm itching to get at.) No idea how to proceed beyond this, however.

Still trying to hunt down a copy of the Taito bartop, Taito upright, or Capcom "master.img" file. With it I should be able to compare it and my NeoGeo "master.img" file and retrieve the password to uncompress it much quicker than a normal brute force method. I have tried the few word list files I have against it and come up with nothing so far. If anyone can get me the Taito image please let me know.
