Supress sound isolation wall board

Has anyone here used this stuff? I just happened on the link while looking at a preamp review. http://www.supressproducts.com/index.htm

I did a search for it here at the forum, but didn't find anything. The price looks better than some other similar products, but I didn't find any performance data. Still trying to decide how I'm going to do my ceiling. Planning on double layer of 5/8" + GG sandwich.

Good question. Supress Products LLC is mum about what is in their "Sound-Engineered Drywall", but manufacturer-supplied independent lab tests suggest to me that it has a viscoelastic-damped core, like QuietRock.

I looked up data that I once plotted from Green Glue test OL O5-1050 vs. Supress test TL05-352. Both of these were done with a double layer of 5/8" drywall on both sides of a single stud wall, 24" O.C. wood studs and fiberglass batt insulation. This is as close to an "apples to apples" test as it gets.

The Green Glue wall had an STC of 54, and the Supress wall an STC of 53. But much more important than the nearly identical STC number was the fact that the 1/3 octave transmission losses for the same frequencies were very similar.

Makes one wonder if there is someone at the factory with a pile of drywall and a 50g drum of GreenGlue who goes home every nite and tells the wife "did I mention that I hate GreenGlue"!

Terry or Kras - there was a NY Times article the other day about people in beach houses in the hamptons using lead line drywall - ever seen that? My drywall is up, but I had to wonder what the cost was.

OK here is what I have found:

Cost of 4' x 8' sheat of QuietRock = $40

Cost of regular 4' x 8' sheat of Drywall = $10

But, anybody know the Cost of 4' x 8' sheat of Supress is ?

I cant find it anywhere.

If that was the same article I saw it was all about creating quiet spaces. I got a real chuckle out of the people who have a beach condo and don't want to hear the surf. I have a modest beach condo and we sometimes crack the window so we can hear the surf at night.

I don't know what it is in other parts of the country but I was told by a company rep it was around $50 per 4 x 8 sheet. I was given a name of a local retailer and was told it was $60 per sheet because of shipping costs form the West coast.

Yup that was the one. I guess one of the joys of wealth is being able to buy exactly what you want. I am accepting donations if anyone wants that theory confirmed.

Doing it the hard way is the best where hard way is install your first layer of drywall and then install your second layer using Green Glue between the layers and overlapping the seams. While Suppress Rock will provide very similar sound isolation figures, the hard way is more fool proof.

If you have a 1/8 gap, 1' long between any of the seams in your drywall, you'll have as much as a 10dB loss in sound isolation...the difference between hearing something through the wall and not hearing something. When you do two layers and overlap the seams, this fault can be avoided.
