Any Thoughts...Sceptre X32GV-KOMODO LCD? - Page 6

I bit the apple & ordered one just now. It came to $652 & some change & shipped free.

After J&R canned my order due to overselling on the Olevia 37" (grr), i fell back to this one.

Thanks to all for their input on this model. Keep it coming!

Still no word on input latency for gaming? How about some 480p gaming impressions? Xbox 360 will look awesome but I mostly still play the old stuff and I'm worried about ghosting.

Ordered it after missing out on the Westinghouse 32" at BestBuy. As long as it's comparable to that, I'll be happy. I grabbed the 27" WH to see what I was missing out on, and it's a pretty good set. I thought about keeping it, but $500 for 27" or $630 for a 32" is a no brainer :P

Hi--I'm thinnking about ordering the Sceptre 32' from Costco. Presently, I am on Time Warner cable, but not digital or hd. Can I expect good reception without being on digital? I've tried to make sense of some of the technical notes on this thread, but have been left in the dust!

Would appreciate replies in straightforward, non-techie language.

Has anyone tried connecting this to their PC with a DVI-HDMI cable? I want to make sure it will work before buying one from monoprice. Thanks.
I just ordered one.

My first step into the world of HD, I'm psyched!
Mine should arrive monday. If no one definitively answers the PC through DVI to HDMI I will then. I'm planning on using this screen exclusively on my secondary PC as a HTPC screen to watch shows and movies on. So here's hoping it works out. The plan at this point is to use this for a year or so until 1080p screens hit the $500-600 mark then sell it and upgrade again.

Yea, I've tried that on my upconverting RCA player and even a Divx movie looked good.
One question though.
So far I haven't touched the RGB settings.
They're all factory set right in the middle.
I get a little bit of a greenish tint in the dark scenes.
How many of you guys make adjustments to the factory RGB settings?
Is there a procedure I can follow to set them correctly?

Picture quality wise, the non-digital sources will look average to pure crap.
You'll be better off staying with an analog CRT.
In order to take advantage of the HD TV you need to upgrade to digital cable or a satellite.
Here is a thread on this very subject:

I'm thinking about getting this one as I missed all LCD TV deals on BF. Does it look good on non HD/digital stuff? Can I return it to my local Costco for a full refund including shipping if I don't like it?

Please read the thread I just posted the link to.
Non-HD and non-digital content will look bad, worse than on your average CRT.
There is no need to abuse the Costco return policy just to find out how bad of a picture a HD TV produces with the analog sources.

If it has the ATSC/QAM tuner, you can hook up cable and scan for unencrypted HD channels. I have the 42" and I get NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, PBS and a bunch more and all I have is basic service. SD stations did look better though with a HD cablebox and the HD channels seemed to have less macroblocking. But, if you are cheap like me, and mostly watch the channels I mentioned, it works.
Costco no longer lists this LCD TV on their site as of today.
I guess the Costco deal was just too good and they sold out.

I've been trying the Xbox360 Universal remote and I can't get it to work with the Sceptre. I tried 001, 002, 003, etc. and still nothing happens. I even used the 'scan' mode and never turned off the Sceptre. The same technique works on my 2 plasmas.

Any ideas?

Hey buddy,

you mentioned that you get the basic HD channels like NBC, CBS, ABC, etc if you hook up the cable from the wall directly to your tv ... what are the channel numbers for those. because I have a sharp 26" and the channel numbers are weird, like 120.1, 119.4, 119.5 etc.
oh yea, and what kind of 42" brand TV do you have?
thanks in advance

I ordered mine Friday night and the order is still in process.. It will probably go out tomorrow hopefully.. I can't wait to get it!! I am so psyched.. I feel better about ordering this Sceptre now that I read what all you guys wrote..

What I get from reading this whole sha-bangy is that it's a good tv, not the best(people comparing them to 50 inch plasmas that are real name brand,etc.. come on this is 599 people..lol) but for the money it's excellent! Hey and costco's return policy rules.. If I have any kind of issues, I can return it to the local warehouse and upgrade and pay the difference or something.

Also, I am definitely using this as PC monitor/TV combo. I bought from ebay an 8 foot Monster DVI-HDMI cable for 25 bucks with shippin and everything (149.99 in a store), and I'm gonna hook up the dvi connection on my NVidia7300LE video card and hopefully it will upscale to the 1080i resolution with no issues. This seems like a pretty loaded out tv. I wish it had more HDMI ports though.. it only has one. I was thinking of buying a 2 or 4 way splitter off ebay but I don't think i'll need it. I am gonna try component when I can get my hands on a Playstation 3 because I heard component connection is almost just as good as hdmi.

I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait!!!! If anyone has any thoughts or anything on what I'm doing(like with the computer and stuff) please let me know, like if it wont work or something. Thanks everyone and have a great day!

I've ordered it on the Fri night of the previous week and it shipped out next Mon.
I haven't gotten the tracking info until the very late on Monday night though.

My basic cable doesn't transmit even a single unencrypted HD channel.

I ordered mine on Friday too, it says in process now. I hope they actually have enough units.

I have a dilemma. I got in on the Spectre deal at Costco, but now I'm thinking it might be better to cancel it and pick up the 32" Westinghouse from Best Buy for a little more.

Is it worth it?
ordered mine last Tuesday, supposed to arrive this week. Anyone done Avia on the settings on this box?

Aggybong, I would have happily taken the Westy for the BF sale price. But given the problems noted in the Westy thread, I don't know why I would pay several hundred more for the Westy over the Sceptre. This is just an opinion, given that I have not seen this Sceptre in action and can only compare based on the notes from our friends on this forum.
Yea, I scanned through the Westy thread (jeez, so many pages), and I got the feeling that while the PQ might be good, the actual build quality\
eliability of the set is questionable.

Still, I wonder how the Spectre can be any better.
It (the Sceptre) does not have to be better :-), given that it is substantially cheaper if you got the Costco price. As I said, if I had gotten the BF Best Buy price, I would have taken the Westy. As several have said before, considering the price point and the LCD technology - we are not buying perfection.

When I want perfection, I go downstairs and watch my Panny plasma!
I know we are at the very low end, but with a personal max of around $1,000, if the Westinghouse is better all around quality, I wouldn't mind spending the extra money. I also had the option of buying a refurbished Sony Bravia 32" for $1000, but I passed.

I did indeed get in on the Costco deal, but it hasn't shipped yet. There's still time!

Edit: Looks like it's back at Costco.

I don't think so.

It was definitely up, I guess they pulled it again

Edit: Looks like it randomly goes up...

I have a local Costco and I just returned in store without fuss. Since they're not carried in store, I just had to order another online (and wait much longer).

Yea, back in stock.
It looks like the Costco techs were just updating their site.
