We purchased the 32" Vizio from Cosco Thanksgiving weekend and so far are pleased with it.

In Indiana, I receive the same channels in the 700s (see below for list). Are they truly HD even if they are coming in through analog basic cable? The "info" button displays them as 720p and 1080i. I have not yet subscribed to the "digital" package (extra $22/month over analog full cable, but includes a DVR) offered by Brighthouse Network, as far as I know I only am receiving analog. They certainly look good on the vizio. Other analog channels (<99) are low resolution on the Vizio, but watchable.

I just purchased the VGA and audio cables that will allow for hookup to my computer. I'll post what the picture looks like when they arrive.

Indiana. Brighthouse. Analog Full Cable package
The following 9 channels are recognized as 'digital', all have clear pictures, far superior to the channels 2-99

480i
164 channel 6 News
300 iNDA

Following are 720p or 1080i:

704 WTTVH channel 4
706 WRTVH ABC channel 7
708 WISHH channel 3
710 WFYI
711 WXINH Fox59, channel 11
713 WTHRH channel 12
875 NBA40

Possibly a very naive question, but is the computer RGB input on the VX32L the DVI? Or are they completely different with one being better than the other? My second question is, would I need an upconverting DVD player to really get the best PQ off of regular DVDs? I have an older Toshiba DVD player right now (SD-1600). I'm just waiting for our AMEX/Costco cash back card to come in the mail so I can go pick one up for myself!

picked one up today at lunch-of course its a xmas gift for wifey-so I cannot play with the set. Had a $200 costco GC-so the set cost alittle over $500-not too shabby. Hope it mounts to the whalen stand I bought from best buy.

It does have green/red/blue independent adjustment.

Not sure on gamma.......I left most of the advanced adjustments on off.

Yes - all of them are HD except for a couple of digital channels - 480i SD (nbc30 weather channel ,tv guide etc). These would have been the same channels I would have received with an antenna (from what I gathered from http://www.antennaweb.org). I also have the basic/extended Comcast (analog) cable subscription.

For the 480i (SD), I found that the digital is significantly better than the corresponding 480i analog (which seems washed out). Maybe Comcast is sending a poor analog signal over.

Btw, the OSD which is displayed when the info button is pressed on the VX32 is waaay better than the VX37 (which is what I have now). On the VX37, it is white text on light gray (partially tranparent) - not very ledgible.

There is a 15-pin VGA connector, as well as two HDMI connectors. There is no DVI connector, but a DVI-HDMI adapter should work if you have DVI output on your PC.

I'm using the VGA output with an old Nvidia card at the native resolution, and it looks pretty good to me.

There is no need for a digital package from your cable provider to pull HDTV. You can see my post on the previous page (page 2 post #39) for details. In most instances your local cable company will send several digital channels in the clear and the QAM tuner in your Vizio can pick those up. In most markets you will get your HD locals (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, CW, et al) and perhaps a few basic HD channels like discovery. It all depends on what your cable provider sends unencrypted. In my market (Dallas) Time Warner sends out all the locals and several digital music stations. If one were to upgrade to the digital package down here it would gain them ESPN-HD, in-HD and Discovery HD Theatre; nifty, but not worth an extra $45 a month.

Anyone have any clues what version of HDMI this panel uses (1.1, 1.2...)? I saw it on display at the Costco in Durham, NC this week and think it would make an excellent bedroom set. I must say that the black levels on this set are much better than my Olevia 37HVS that is now a year old. Cheers!

I have amounting question for this set- does anyone know if this Tv is VESA compliant? trying to find some different mounts and its starting to get confusing. found a few:
http://www.omnimount.com/consumer/pr...rentId=1.2.1.2

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000ETZTAS

http://www.standsandmounts.com/index...OD&ProdID=4321

I am mounting it to this TV stand-which comes with a mounting bracket-but I think it would be easier to mount the bracket I buy to the stand and then I can simply hook-or unhook the Tv easily.

Hi,

Just picked up a VX32L Friday night at Costco in Fremont, CA. There were 3 left.

Having fired it up Friday night and played with it today, I must say it is a fantastic unit for the price. Two issues, however. Occasionally, it will not turn on; all you hear is sound. Cycling power once always fixes this. Second, while watching a college football game last night on ABC, in 720P HD, the picture would be breathtakingly clear and beautiful, then for a few seconds get blurry. I would say it was blurry about 10 percent of the time. No other HD broadcasts did this.

I ran the channel scan first thing, and it found about 80 analog, and amazingly, over 100 digital channels, of which most were music. This is regular Comcast cable.

I have 2 questions: 1) is the wall mount from Vizio the best one, or is another brand better to get? 2) is the extended warranty best to buy from Vizio, or some other place?

Overall, for the price, I think this is a fantastic TV!

Okay, I got mine @ Costco Manassas, Va. Today.
So, after trying AutoScan several times, I still can't get the VX32L to find the local channel4 HD air transmissions. It found all the others I expected and two more.
Is there a way to add stations manually.?

I just got the VX32L today, set it up, it looks really nice. HOWEVER, watching a DVD connected with an HDMI cable, you cannot adjust the viewing ratio. So if I want to watch a DVD in 4:3 "square" format, I have to watch it stretched out to 16:9 anamorphic, or zoomed. I'm a stickler for watching things in the proper ratio, and if it was shot square,I want it square. This is kind of a deal breaker. If I'm doing something wrong or anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks.
Watch your 4:3 DVDs via the component or S-Video inputs?
i just have standard adelphia cable.

the first couple nights i had this the tuner picked up things like hbo and cinemax and even picked up like 3 porn channels which really sucked as I couldn't block them permanently. i would block them, but they disappeared and came back sometimes at different numbers...very strange. maybe they were pay per view?

but now i get nothing but my local stations and discovery in HD and...not even MPT shows up anymore. was that a mistake at my cable company and they encrypted those channels real quick or is it something i can do to get them back.

also- anyone else know how to block one of those channels that goes away and comes back...parental controls don't work either cause it doesn't register as mature or x etc...i really don't need porn on the dial right next to simpsons. kinda scary with kids.

So here's my question...I just bought one at the Costco in Burbank, CA (they had about 12 when I was there yesterday) and I sat in front of this TV watching a DVD of the animated film "Cars" and just fell in love with it.

So on the impulse, I bought it.

Now I've got it home, I have Time Warner digital cable and Tivo, but the free programming that comes in HD does not show up very clear on my TV.

I tried bypassing Tivo, no dice...still blurry. I guess I could try connecting without the cable box, but that seems like it wouldn't work.

Any suggestions?

I just connected up my old Comcast cable out of the wall to the coax input, let it do its channel scan, and that was it, bingo, about 180 channels of which 5 are HD. Be sure your zoom is set correctly. I was just watching our local news on Fox in HD and it is truly stunning.

here's my question:

we bought the old Vizio 32" LCD about 3 months ago from costco.

is it worth the time/effort to exchange it for the new model?

i have a tiny car that the tv barely fit in. the tv is mounted on the wall at my girlfriends apt. the box is in my apt. if everything was easier i would probably definitely exchange it, but i'm kinda on the fence right now.

They did have one display unit, but none available to put in your cart. Getting it loaded into my Celica was a chore since I also had to figure out how to arrange my two year old and his car seat, but we managed.

Anyway, I've been playing with my new toy all night and tried using some of the recommended settings in the VX37L thread (the VX32L doesn't have a "variable" backlight setting that I could find), but they didn't look right to me. So, here's what I'm currently using, which seems about right to my naked eye:

Source: HR20 via component
Backlight: 65
Brightness: 57
Contrast: 46
Color: 34
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 3
Color Temperature: Normal

I'm curious to see what settings the rest of you are using. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I'm also pleasantly surprised about how good the internal tuner is compared to the one in my HR10-250. All of my locals are rock solid on the TV, while a couple of them are only 85-90% reliable on the HD TiVo.

i have mine really close to yours. Looks pretty good. We also have a 40" Sony Bravia. The Bravia looks substantially better IMHO.

The panorama setting for SD material is really bad on this set. Some of the worst I ahve ever seen- even the "wide" setting looks better.

I'm interested in purchasing this TV, but there are no CostCo's in my area. What other options do I have? Thanks.

You can order it directly through Vizio's website.

I would not think it would be worth the trouble. Plus, I know Costco has a very liberal return policy, but unless there was something wrong with the set, I would feel ethically that returning a set you have used just to buy the next model is not right.

I inquired at the service desk at Costco last week and re-confirmed the satisfaction policy, but the lady behind the counter did say that returns were no questions asked, but it was between you and your conscience.

Yikes. $125 to ship. I don't think so.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing. unless this new model was a HUGE improvement over the previous model, i was planning on saving myself the trouble and keeping it. it looks fine and i'm not really a a/v hardcore anyway, so it'll serve it's purpose fine.

thanks.

I bought mine this weekend and i have noticed the same thing on some materials (blurry). It cycles from awesome HD picture quality down to no better than good SD quality on a couple of my HD channels. Interesting. It seems to me an issue with the processing chip somehow.

I just picked up the 32 this morning to go along with my 46, the 32 has more red push than the 46. Has anyone done a calibration for this set yet?

By the way my local Costco just got 18 sets in this am, I got there at 11 and there only 3 left and they didn't even bother to put one on display!

Which Costco did you go to? The one in Seattle or the one in Kirkland? I went to the Seattle one last night and didn't see any Vizios. I don't know that much about how Costco works, so I don't know if they only display the "prettier" models or what. I didn't see any labels for the Vizios either.

Are you sure it's not a problem with the source? The OP said he only saw it on ABC's HD broadcast, for the football game. Maybe the signal coming in had issues.

I bought mine at the Edmonds store 2 weeks ago as Seattle didn't receive their shipment. Last Saturday at Edmonds they had a pallet full of the 20's and at least 6 of the 32's on hand. Just call the store ahead of time and they will let you know if they have any or they will do an inventory check at other stores.
