PS3 problems and setup issues thread! - Page 87

Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with my PS3 problem
can't get sound through home theatre receiver on PS3. Have tried lots of connections but with no results
TV IS Panasonic TC-P54G25 with 3 HDMI--HT-R550 Onkyo receiver also has 3 HDMI connections
How do I connect the PS3 so that I get the audio from the receiver instead of the TV speakers?
any help would be appreciated.
oh and my cable provider is ATT U-VERSE

thanks
Hi dana scully, the HT-R550 is a HDMI pass-thu receiver which does not process audio via HDMI.

It means the sources (PS3, Uverse box) connected to receiver HDMI inputs will output the video and audio from HDMI "Out" port only. And no audio from the connected speakers. To get sound from the connected speaker you then need an audio connection (optical, coaxial, RCA analog) in addition to an HDMI connection.

Thanks JChin I will get the optical audio cable and give it a try

i appreciate your help on this!!
Glad to help, report back with your result or if you have more question(s).
Keep in mind you lose HD audio (TrueHD/DTS-MA) if your receiver cannot process audio as an HDMI input. If this matters to you.

GOT IT!!!!!
The new optical audio cable came in and now it works perfectly!!!

thanks for your help

I just got a PS3 today and I haven't owned one in about 3 years or so.

My TV is a Vizio M260VA and I'm not sure if I should bother turning the 1080p/24Hz on. Since my TV is only 60Hz. Or should I just leave it on automatic?

I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to my Denon 591 and after the last PS3 update only my 5.1 audio quit working. If I switch Netflix's audio to stereo or if I choose a non 5.1 title, everything works. The Denon shows "Multi In" on the display. A call to Netflix was no help, they suggested my HDMI cable was bad (tried two others, same problem). Blu-Ray's work fine, games work fine, only Netflix. Any ideas? Is anyone else having this problem? I posted in the main forum but didn't get any replies, sorry for the second post.

Auto is fine it won't go to 24Hz if there is no support on the TV side. Doesn't matter if your players are 24Hz capable either.

Yeah, I figured that, thank you. I know my TV doesn't support 24hz because when I hooked up a WD Media Player my girlfriend brought home from work, you can set it to 1080p/24hz and it wouldn't except the setting. Saying it isn't "capable" of that setting.

But thank you.

Tom

have u tried checking in the audio settings menu in the ps3 to see that you have all appropriate audio checked off? might of been erased somehow after doing the update.

*just read that everything else works fine so that wouldnt b the problem. Well many receivers will display multi in when receiving a 5.1 signal. does it sound like it's in 2ch when playing back a 5.1 movie from netflix, if it doesn't then I wouldn't worry about it

I have no audio at all on movies that are in 5.1, in Netflix. Movies that are stereo, or if I change a 5.1 movie to stereo, work fine. Blu-rays and DVD's are fine.

Hi aboxman, no issue with Netflix 5.1 audio (30 Rock) with PS3 (Slim) version 3.60 and Netflix version 2.02.

Suggest deleting the Netflix app and reinstalling it.

Regarding 24p support and the PS3. My G25 does 24p at 48Hz with flicker. Should I also set mine to automatic, or should I just turn it off? I'd also would like to have the PS3 do the 3:2 pulldown and not the TV, so I'm not sure what setting I would need to do there.
My PS3 won't stay logged into the PSN, ever 5 minutes it seems to kick me. Ever since the 3.60 firmware came out I have had this happen every so often, but now I can't play anything online without getting booted after a match or two. I've tried several troubleshooting measures that I found on google but nothing has worked so far. PS3 is in the DMZ, media server is disabled.

PS3 > HDMI > Receiver > HDMI > TV – Black screen (input detected) and Cut Outs/flicker green
PC > HDMI > Receiver > HDMI > TV – Works

TV is Pioneer 4280XD, Receiver is Yamaha DSP 761 and PS3 is PS3 Slim 160Gb v3.60.
This is the HDMI cable im using:

Hello! I'm trying to get advice on getting the best picture out of my PS3, for both gaming and Blu-rays. Currently, it looks good for Blu-rays, but the color looks a little washed out during games, especially when compared to my 360 (both are using the same HDMI input on the TV, I've been switching back and forth until my new TV, which has more HDMI inputs, arrives tomorrow). The menu does a pretty terrible job at describing a lot of the video options like HDMI black level, color output, white level (pardon my ignorance on all the "proper" names), etc, and the manual that came with my PS3 (40gb version) doesn't address them at all. Any input on setting the video options to maximize the PQ? My set-up is the 40gb PS3 connected via high-speed HDMI to a Samsung UN55D8000 LED-LCD tv (when it gets here tomorrow). Any help is appreciated, and if there's anything I need to know that helps for 3D games and Blu-rays, I appreciate that as well! Thanks in advance!

I'm a newbie here.....we're having problems. I'll give everyone the whole story at once. I'm not even sure if this is the correct thread to be posting in. Here goes:
The ps3 plays blue rays fine. No problems throughout the movies.
This is going through an onkyo receiver and to a Epson 8500ub projector.
Television/directv work fine also. Never any problems.
When playing games or streaming movies from netflix there is a problem.
The screen goes blank but audio continues perfectly. A message is displayed in the bottom left corner "hdmi 1 not supported h: v: " and the video will reappear shortly after. By the end of the movie the display changes to "hdmi 1 not supported h: 56.6hz v: 60hz" (numbers not exact to what is displayed) and the video doesn't come back for a very long time and usually only after we're messing around with things....nothing consistent has brought the video back.

So when there are no numbers in the H: and V: portions the video returns, when there are numbers displayed the video doesn't return.

The ps3 is displaying in 1080p. I've seen a thread that indicates we may need to change that to 720i. We will try that, but I get the feeling it is a different problem. It doesn't seem to be a streaming issue because usually in that case the video should freeze until the stream catches up....not total loss of video? Also it happens with playing games....not as much as with netflix but close enough.

We are also wondering if it is heat related because it does seem to happen much more often toward the end of the movie. But not always.

Until we hear otherwise, we are going to make sure the hard drive is cleaned and emptied, the firmware was already updated and problem remained.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Hey gang. I'm trying to connect my PS3 to a Sony shelf system with a mini analog input. Currently I'm running HDMI to my TV. What I've done to attempt to get the audio is to take the PS3 av out and connected the L/R RCA to two barrel connectors and then connected the other end of those to an RCA to mini Y-adapter. Even after switching the settings to dual audio output (or whatever it's called exactly), I get nothing out of the shelf system.

Is this even possible?

I've been having some wireless network issues recently, and I'm now having problems with my PS3. This all started when I was getting intermittently slow connections on my 360, so after eliminating the modem and wireless adapter as issues, I bought a new router and it's now working perfectly--on the 360. The PS3 now seems to be a little slow. I'm getting download speeds of roughly 3mb when I check my connection. A game video that once took roughly 4 minutes to download on the old router now takes in excess of 10 minutes. Needless to say, it's frustrating, especially since the 360 is now working correctly. It seems like I can never get both of them going optimally at the same time on my wireless connection... Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm using a cable modem with a Netgear N600 WNDR3400 router. I'm broadcasting both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz (which the 360 is on). The 2.4Ghz is speeds up to 145, and the 5Ghz is up to 300. When I test my modem speeds from my hardwired computer, it looks like they're running around 20Mb, which seems good. The channel is set to "auto" for the 2.4Ghz broadcast, but changing the channel manually didn't seem to make a difference in download speeds for the PS3. Thanks in advance for the help!

When I run the speed test it always fails because the PS3 says that my router doesn't support IP fragments. A google search turned up a crap load of info, all of it useless as after hours of testing I determined that the default settings on everything were already correct and that my router has no issues with IP fragments using my Laptop to send test files...

The reason I am concerned is because when I'm playing games online, unless I get host I seem to have massive issues with packet loss (even though my laptop has zero packet loss on all speed test sites) I have to empty entire clips just to get a kill when everyone else gets kills with only a small burst. I know there is some issue on my PS3 but I just can't seem to isolate it.

I've run into a problem with one of my PS3s that's driving me crazy...

- I have a Linksys combo DSL Modem/Router (Verizon is my provider).
- I'm using a WPA security key
- I have numerous devices accessing the router including two 360's, two PS3's, a laptop and a Samsung Galaxy.
- Given how I use my devices only one device is accessing the router at any time so bandwidth is not an issue.
- The PS3 in question had been working fine until about two days ago, then I was unable to access the Playstation Network upon turning it on.
- I've made no changes to the PS3, the modem/router or any other device in my network.
- I've tried rebooting/unplugging my router, unplugging the PS3, resetting my PS3 account and even resetting the PS3 to factory defaults.
- I've gone thru the PS3's network setup numerous times to no avail.
- Each time I try to re-enter the network settings the connection fails and I get this message:

The key information exchange timed out
The WPA key you entered may not be correct

- I know that I'm entering the correct WPA key because every other device connecting to the router, including another PS3 in another room, works fine and they all have the same WPA key.

- The PS3 that can't connect sees the SSID of my router and the signal strength is never below 90% and usually at 100%

- I really don't want to go to a WEP key because every other device, including another PS3 in another room, works fine and connects with no problem at all and as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It looks for all the world like I'm entering the wrong WPA key but I know I'm entering the correct key as I've entered it a dozen times and can't believe I'm typing it incorrectly that many times in succession.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Make sure PS3 is not being given a duplicate IP already in use by another device.
Temporarily disable all security features on the router, like MAC filtering, max # of connections, encryption (WPA), etc.. then try PS3 setup again.
Don't bother with WEP, it offers no real security and is only a nuisance for you while being a cinch to crack.
It takes longer for you to enter the WEP key on a single device than the time it takes for a kid to crack your WEP running a freeware program.

Trying to update my 2 yr old fatty to 3.60. It froze at 99% for over 20 minutes. I then tried several times to re-start it and it just keeps trying to update and then gets stuck forever at 99%. It won't go to the XMB or play any discs. Won't respond to the controller either. Just keeps trying to update from 0% and then gets stuck always at 99%

Have I bricked it?

I did as you suggested and turned off security on the router; rebooted everything and tried to connect with both automatic and manual settings. In both cases I got a "failed to get IP address" error message. So, even with security off, this PS3 cannot connect to the internet.

Also tried moving both the PS3 and the router/modem to more open areas and still got the same result.

At this point, I'm really thinking something is broken with the wireless internet adapter inside the PS3.

Have you tried assigning a static ip to the ps3?

I did, and while I can't remember the exact error message, the console still failed in reaching the internet.

Remember, right now the PSN is completly down worldwide, so any bug testing will have to wait.
