Thanks for the tip but unfortunately no dice on that one. It was off already on the ps3 (tried turning it on and nothing either).

hey guys i have a question

i have my ps3 connected to my rx-v663 with a 7.1 setup

when movies play, the proper inputs light up during playback (ie:7.1 or 5.1 according the movie) and matrix 5.1 to rear 7.1 speakers... all is cool during movie playback

during game play, for some reason all 7.1 inputs light up on receiver no matter what game is in and rear speakers stay silent, as opposed to in the past only 5.1 inputs would light up and matrix audio to rear speakers.... audio settings on receiver always stay the same for PS3 (dplxII) audio settings on ps3 are set ot automatic, hdmi and lpcm

this only started not too long ago... in the past id play games and would light up the proper inputs (dts 5.1)

does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hello,

I have connected my PS3 to my Onkyo SR608 receiver through a HDMI cable. When I play games or watch BD or DVD it seems the PS3 decodes the audio and sends it as Multichannel PCM to the receiver. Is there a way to let my A/V receiver do the decoding? After all that's why I bought it in the first place. Is there a difference in sound quality if the PS3 decodes the audio compared to the A/V receiver? I played around with the settings on the PS3 and unchecked the multichannel PCM 5.1 and 7.1 boxes so the receiver gets only 2 channels. When I display the incoming signal on the receiver it says Dolby or DTS, but some parts of the sound are missing in games. For instance conversations behind the in-game character's back start to fade out or even disappear.
I'm sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere on this forum, but I can't seem to find it then. I already used Google on this topic, but can't seem to find a decent answer.

The older "fat" PS3's cannot bitstream HD audio, the newer "slim" PS3's can.
Though either should bitstream standard/lossy Dolby & DTS audio, guess I'd double check your settings.

But there is no real audio difference regardless. The only difference is where the audio is being decoded, at the player or at the AVR.

You may have it set to composite. It won't output over hdmi unless you manually set it in settings. It's probably not picking it up. It has to sense there is an hdmi. It's probably not since you are using dvi.

Hi riraz, connect the HDMI-DVI cable to monitor ... then press and hold the PS3 power on/off button until it beeps twice ... this should reset the PS3 and you just follow the prompts.

Try turning off "Deep Color" in PS3 found under Display settings.

I didn't know whether I should open a new thread for this so I'm gonna ask here.
I'm not very technologically inclined so I need recommendations for a router to use with the PS3. I'm looking to have a wired connection for my pc and PS3 and a wireless one for my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Vizio makes a nice dual band router sold at walmart Sams has cheaper at certain ones. I got mine for $48 and it sells for about $78 last I saw at walmart. But looks as prices have gotten better.http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=vizio+router&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=11969073441739544537&sa=X&ei=qh1wTpO7DIiBsgKMq93KBw&ved=0CC8Q8wIwAg

Mine is about 1 1/2 years old bought from Best Buy for $50. I have wireless ps3, wireless laptop, hard wired pc and hardwired PS3. Works great but do have to power cycle the router periodically. It's a Belkin N150 (but unlike the name makes it seem it is only a 802.11b/g router and not a actual n router).

Hello,

My kids noticed that since yesterday games don't produce sound on the PS3. I played a CD today and it played fine and your can hear the sounds when navigating the main PS3 menu. However, you get no sound when you are in the game. I am using the optical out for audio and have had no problems for over two years until yesterday. Any ideas?

Thank you schnurmac & steve, I'll look for them.

I copied about 200 JPEGS on to a DVD R disc. Put the disc into the PS3 which read the disc and displayed the folder. However, when I tried to view the photos it showed no files on disc. The photos are there and I can view them on my PC. I have done this in the past with no problems. I created a new disc with the folder titled "PICTURE' and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Try placing the pics onto a USB device.

This morning I got a quick yellow light and then flashing red on the front of my ps3. Anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

I bought the ps3 in 2007 so it's out of warranty.

Also, coincidental as it may seem could a powerline adapter have caused this? I was wireless before and decided to improve my connection to go with the powerline adapters. It improved my connection, went from 5 Mbps to 18 but ot 15 minutes later, this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

You have the very popular very well know yellow light if death. Same issue as xbox red ring if death. It can be fixed and save all your data. I'm sure someone local on cl can fix it for you. Or send to Sony loose all your data and get a refurb unit.

What is CL?

And get a refurbished unit, for probably just about the same price I can buy a new one no doubt?

I'm not sure about games but my receiver shows 7.1 in the XMB and also in Netflix. In Netflix, if I'm watching something that's 2.0 or 5.1, it will still show as 7.1 and I'll be unable to matrix it. If I deselect all the LPCM 5.1/7.1 boxes in the Audio settings, it goes back to normal.

LOL! Craigslist.

I would go with a new one if that fits in your budget.
My CECHE01 (2007 80GB) decided to stop reading discs last night while playing Call Of Duty. It froze, started chugging and after the reboot, it will not read games, Blu-ray movies, CDs or DVDs anymore. No disc icon appears on the XMB. The rest of the unit works fine.

I'm guessing the optical drive has called it quits? Probably a laser burn-out?

Sorry, just didn't know what CL was.

Here's my question to anyone that doesn't mind giving their OPINION...

Could the ethernet adapter from Netgear possibly caused this? I just bought a new ps3 (btw, does it not have a regular ON/OFF switch in the back???) and while I want my speed to increase from it's current wireless do I take another chance that something blows up the second ps3.

For testing purposes, I just plugged in a digital wall clock into that electrical outlet and see what it does. I can't believe it would be that outlet or the Netgear thing but very weird that it happened so soon after I hooked my ps3 into it.

Also, in my old unit what do I need to do in order to protect my information such as log ins and so forth?

Thank you all for any input you can provide me.

As for your info on your old PS3 its broken and the only thing that can access the info on the hard drive is that PS3 and nothing else. If it was fixed then yes it can be used. Here is the thing also you are activated on that PS3. Sony allows 5 PS3 for your PSN to be assigned to. You need to call them and ask to have it deactivated.

The outlet and the netgear didnt cause your problem. Its the PS3 itself. Its old and has lost a connection on the GPU causing it to give you the ylod red flashing light. That is a fault code really. Even if you were to knock a component off the motherboard you would get the same ylod. The Ps3 knows there is a break in the circuit and shuts itself down. I hope this helps.

Our PS3, only 10 months old, is starting to freeze where you have to manually turn it off (with the soft button on the front, not the switch in the back).

video freezes..sometimes you get a stuck audio noise also.

Is this a known problem? Should I report to Sony for warranty claim/work?

thx

Ok, thanks. One more question

The ethernet adapters, what about power surges? I'm all for speed over wireless but not if I have to worry bout having all my equipment zapped. I mean, the ps3 will be plugged into one adapter and then to the wall and my router to the other adapter to the wall.

Get proper surge protection.

You can also unplug that ethernet cable or even the adapter itself when not in use.
But your PS3's power will be plugged into the same electrical circuit anyway, so unplug the PS3 as well.

Kinda defeats the purpose really.

Powerline adapters not being able to plug into surge protectors is one thing that bothers me and a reason I think I'll be taking the adapter back.

Not gonna take a chance.

Precisely.

Proper surge protection starts at your main electric panel. Surge protection at the device itself is also recommended but is secondary.
