Today when I turned on my PS3, it is no longer bitstreaming to Dolby Digital or DTS. It now default only to LPCM 48. I have a PS3 slim connected to AVR Sony STRDN1020 via HDMI and then from AVR to HDTV Sony HX929 via HDMI as well. I have the latest firmware and not JB. I have the video setup as HDMI 1080P and the audio as HDMI and Automatic. I also have the HDMI audio setup as bitstreaming instead of LPCM.

Before today, even at start or just at xmb menu, my AVR will show that it was receiving DD audio signal. And when I play games it usually shows whether it's Dolby Digital or DTS but now even at xmb menu, the AVR shows it is receiving only LPCM 48 audio signal although the light indicator on AVR that is usually indicator for DD or DTS signal is also on for LPCM 48 audio signal. And when it comes to DISC based games it now only shows LPCM 48 as audio and but the indicator light is on. But on downloadable PSN games like The Walking Dead or Papo and Yo, before it shows DD or DTS audio signal receiving but now it only shows LPCM 48 but it the light indicator is not on and it's only sending audio to my left, center and right speakers and not to the rest of my surround sound speakers.

This has happened to me before but I was able to fix it and cannot remember how. I tried turning on my TV and AVR first before the PS3 and vice versa. I tried resetting the PS3 to default setting. I tried unplugging power and HDMI cable on the PS3 and AVR. I tried resetting my AVR to factory default setting. I even tried resetting the video and audio of the PS3 by pressing the power and hold for a couple seconds to setup my video and audio. And none worked. I tried setting up the audio HDMI manually and unchecked the LPCM audios and it seemed to work on disc based games and it will show DD or DTS audio signal instead of LPCM 48 but on the downloadable PSN games, it's still showing LPCM 48 and only on my 3 front speakers.

In regards to Bluray movies though, its working fine and sending the audio signals I want even if the HDMI is set to auto and LPCM are checked, it's shows DD, DTS, Tru HD, MA and etc... Please help, any suggestions or advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with the data transfer utility because i currently share my PS3 slim console with my brother & he's getting his own console soon so i need to know how to transfer all of his stuff from my console to his new console without affecting my stuff. I read on the playstation 3 manual all users have to be deactivated but i'm only interested in transferring his stuff so can i keep my account which is a separate user activated & only deactivate his account so the DLC's & games he got from Playstation Store can be used on his new console or does he have to re-download them. I'll Appreciate any help i get.
Once you transfer, they either have to share the same account, or most likely hardly anything will work as you want. The data transfer utility is intended for systems with the same account.
I spoke with a friend who knows everything about PS3 last night & he said i should use the Backup utility to transfer my brothers stuff to his new console without deactivating his account. He also said my brother would have to sync his trophies & re-download his stuff from the Playstation Store. Will that actually allow us to safely move my brothers stuff to his new console.
If your brother is just getting a new console and will be using the same account, the transfer utility is the best way to move it over if you can have both systems at the same time. And yes, be sure you sync trophies before you transfer or back up.
My brother will be using the new console he plans on getting soon & I'll be using the console we share now. If i use the data transfer utility can we keep both accounts active or will it force us to deactivate our accounts on my console which i don't want to do.
You deactivate the account before you do the transfer, then reactivate after. It's not as big a deal as it sounds.
After the transfer will my account automatically be activated on my brothers new console? If so would i deactivate it on my brothers console then reactivate it on my console?
As long as there are only two systems total, it can be activated on both. It won't automatically reactivate, you have to manually reactivate it. You will have to have your account active on both systems if you want your brother to be able to play games and DLC you have purchased.

Oh ok now i understand thanks for your help.

Hey, I am a stickler for the "fat" PS3s so i initially had the 80GB motorstorm one but that encountered the YLOD. I now have an original 60gb one and it works fine. I was wondering though, would i be able to get the information from the 80gb onto the 60gb? I tried to swap the HDD but it told me that the info needs to be formatted and if i format all my information would be deleted. Is there anyway, to get away from that? i have such precious data like my MGS4 file (big boss accomplished) DMC4 file (Bloody castle accomplished) and FF7 file (weapons defeated). That isnt data that you just give up like that.

im pretty sure my ps3 died last night, its the old fat one... when i buy a new one is there anyway i can transfer the data from my old dead one onto my new one?

As I mentioned in the other thread, if you don't have backups and don't have cloud saves through a PS+ subscription, then you only have one option for rescuing your saves. Reflow your dead one, backup your saves, and transfer them to new PS3 (not all saves can be backed up, but most can). That's it. Otherwise, they're gone.

if you don't want to open up your ps3 to use a heatgun, you should be able to use a hairdryer to temporarily resurrect your PS3. There are some youtube videos that show you how. I did it once with my old 80gb to get my disc out and backup a few saves. It lasted about a week as a netflix machine before dying again.

Can someone help me with my setup troubles?

I just bought the PS3 Slim and trying to get HDMI video and optical audio. I've read a bunch of threads, and there doesn't seem to be any overarching reasons for it to not work, but I just can't seem to get it to work so I'll try to ask here.

So my PS3 is connected via HDMI to a Panasonic projector, and the audio is connected via optical to a Bose Lifesystem (one that I bought 4 years ago, so no HDMI inputs). I got no sound from the initial hook up and after reading a few threads on this problem, tried messing around with the settings. In Settings -> Sound, I clicked on all the options for optical, and clicked manual in the HDMI which brought me to a screen that said something like "This device does not support HDMI audio" or something. Still no sound.

So I thought it was my cable or maybe receiver, but when I plugged in another source for the optical, sound was coming out.

I tried holding the power button for 5 seconds to get it to auto config, but that didn't work. So now I just have the audio outputting RCA but there's no surround.

Is there anything I haven't tried that I should be trying? Thanks for any help!
Holding the power button resets everything, does not initiate an auto config.

I suggest making sure that dual output for audio is turned OFF, then set everything to output to optical again.

HI everyone, I posted this question on several PS3 threads but no one is biting so I'll try here.

2 questions/issues:

1. If my Pioneer SC-2112K AVR has better outboard upscaling, what should be my video settings to optimize DVD resolution? Or is it automated despite source PS3 video settings? I currently run HDMI to receiver then out to plasma TV.
2. After updating the Netflix over the internet, the PS3 would open the new update but then reset (turn off, then turn on). This cycles until I have exit out of Netflix. Other video channels working ok. Anyone else having this issue and if not, is there a way I can revert to the older netflix version?

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi guys,
I hope I'm posting in the right place because I don't know if my problem has to do with my AVR setup or my Ps3 setup. I just bought a Denon AVR-1613 and have been scratching my head for a couple of hours now. My Ps3 is hooked up to my AVR through a HDMI 1.4 cable. My picture is fine but I have no sound. Sound config seems to be ok on the Ps3 and the AVR displays DTS on the screen. My DVD player which is also hooked on the AVR works fine and my cables are good. I running out of ideas right now and hoping you guys could help me. Thx.

Hi Mugen669, possible a HDMI handshake issue. Try turning on the components in a certain order - tv, receiver, PS3 (wait a few seconds in between turn on). Also try connecting PS3 to the other inputs on the AVR.

For info on your AVR-1613, click here.

I bought a controller off amazon and afater receiving it, i noticed the sticker on the back was different than original, it had a matte look instead of gloss and felt lighter. After searching online for fakes, my controller appeared to be a fake. I went to best buy to purchase an official controller, i noticed that it too had the the matte finish with the exception that the sticker on the back was the same as original. Has sony always used the same sticker on the back? Did they change to a matte finish? Im hoping someone didnt do a return with a fake in its place. I havent tested it since im at work right now and know that will b the ultimate test

I'm having trouble with an Onkyo TX NR414 and my PS3. The sub is not being engaged. I am running HDMI into receiver, audio output on PS3 is HDMI with auto settings. All other speakers work but no output to sub. When I switch to cable box and view 5.1 program sub kicks on. So clearly it's working but not talking to my PS3. Anyone have ideas on how to correct this?

Set main speakers to SMALL instead of large.

I have the new version ps3. Had it for just a few months with no Internet. But now when I try to turn it on it says corrupt files. I click ok it reboots and goes through a download process. After the process it reboots again and than when the waves line comes up after the first warning it just freezes. Any suggestions on what I should do?

My slim has been locking up like mad, in random games and at the XMB. I put the original 120GB HD back in and installed the OS from scratch. So far so good. Maybe my 500GB drive was dying. My next thing I will try is put the 500GB back in and format it, see if it is the HD hardware of file corruption I guess. I need to rule out the PS3 itself first, so I guess I have to use it with the 120GB original drive for a while and see if it locks up.

I found this, gets you into safe mode where you can rebuild the DB. I did it, now to watch for lockups.

Edit: Seems to have fixed my issues. No lockups with any game since doing the DC rebuild.

So I had my UT50 delivered on the 6th, I hooked up my Hopper to HDMI and that worked fine but when I went to hook up my PS3 to HDMI2 I got nothing. I held down the power button on the PS3 and still nothing. I hooked it up with my component cables and I get a picture but its in black and white. I hooked it up to my old tv with the component cables and the picture was right. Has anyone ever experienced this? Its pretty annoying that I cant get my PS3 set up. One more question, are there only certain wifi adapters that work with this tv? If anyone has anything that will help I will really appreciate it! Thanks
post #2848 of 2851
Only the Panasonic wifi adapter will work on your UT.

Not sure why you can't get the PS3 to work. On my ST50 I just went from PS3 > receiver > TV and all works just fine.

Today, while playing Uncharted 3, I've noticed that in some well lit areas character's skin is "glowing" in a weird way:

My tv is Panasonic P42ST60 plasma. Can it be modified via tv/ps3 settings, or does it look like that because of in-game filters?

Cheers, Luke

That looks like a bug to me, but I'm not sure. I haven't encountered it.
