PS3 problems and setup issues thread! - Page 14

This problem was reported a while back, but I couldnt find a solution for it. After watching a blu-ray movie, I cant just eject the disc and put in a game to play. There is either no sound, or no video, one or the other. I have to turn off the system with the switch in the back to get the game running properly. I can here sound in the crossbar menu, but as soon as I click to start the game, one of the two things happen.

This doesnt happen only right after I watch a movie. I watched The Wild a week ago, and put the system in standby. I tried to play resistance yesterday, but i didnt get video, only sound. I had to shut down the ps3 to get it working, this is obviously very annoying. Has anybody found a solution for this?

I am getting overscan on my Sony CRT HS510 running the PS3 in games like the F1 demo. I can fix it in the service menu but then the PS2 games running on PS3 end up having underscan and I can see the black edes of the screen, so is anyone else with CRT HDTV's having this problem?

I am running on component, if that matters, Reisistance and Motostorm seem to be fine but I have no other PS3 games to test. Lemmings had a screen adjust which helped but I am worried more games won't have this and I don't want to have to goto the service menu to adjust to each game.

I'm getting no input on my TV's DVI connection....does the TV need to be HDCP for games?

My problem has to do with audio.
If i choose HDMI i can listen to the tv...but not the receiver, when i choose optical i listen thru the receiver but not thru the tv...do i have to manually turn the optical on everytime i want to watch a movie...??

my settings are

NBA 2K7 doesn't run in 1080p it runs in 720P I have a 1080I LCD I tried both cables component HD and HDMI for some reason with component it drops to 480 but with HDMI it drops to 720p I dont know why. I tried other games as well Madden07 and gran tourismo. Gran Tourismo was the only game that played in 1080p on my 1080I LCD without any problem. Does anyone know why? I tried on 2 different TV's one a projection and the second TV LCD. It doesnt tell you it drops the resolution on my projection but it tells me on my LCD. I dont know wats going on and the darn thing is new "I mean my LCD". One other thing on my projection it plays the same using both cables unlike my LCD it doesnt drop well i dont think so. If it did drop the most it drop the games to was 720p but it doesn't tell you like my LCD does.

I tried connecting my PS3 to Denon avr-887 using HDMI. The Denon HDMI monitor out is connected to a Mits 62525 DLP. I got no picture, no sound! The Denon to Mits is working fine, because I have my cable box connected to the Denon with components and no problems. I also tried connecting the PS3 to the TV directly, via HDMI, and that works fine, so the problem is not in PS3, or the HDMI cable.

The denon web site has this on their FAQ:

"A set top receiver connected to an A/V receiver via HDMI may have trouble passing video signals through the A/V receiver even though a direct connection to the display seems to work fine. This has to do with the HDMI HDCP protocol being sent and received and the authentication process. This is not a fault of the receiver."

Hard to believe this is the problem, because PS3 must have worked with other receivers.

If I connect PS3 to my denon with components and optical link, what am I giving up?

Is the PS3 startup screen supposed to be bright gray? On the Samsung LCD I have been looking at, the PS3 startup screen looks gray...isn't it supposed to be black? I have it connected to one of the HDMI inputs...it's a 1080p LCD.

Incorrect. Displays that can DISPLAY 1080p content must be able to receive 1080P content. Think about it for a minute.

I am not sure. I think the last generation of Sony XBR1 displays 1080p but doesn't accept 1080p signals. Strange.

I got that Logitech PS2 headset "Socom" that I used for my PS2, and now I'm pluging in it to my PS3 and the set is not working! Is that normal, cause I heard that those could be used with the PS3s. Is there something else I should do to make it work or what?

A Denon customer service rep has blamed the PS3 for these receivers not outputting 7.1 PCM through the HDMI input. He says it is a compatibility issue on the PS3's side and not Denon's....He said for owners of these avr's to post it on the Sony PS3 forum to cause sony to release a firmware fix. Any other owners of these receivers here with any input about any of this???

ps...I own the 3806 and cannot get 7.1 pcm through HDMI. The guy who talked to the Denon rep was another avs forum member who owns the 4306. When I talked to a denon rep, he was telling me it does except 7.1 pcm through hdmi...but then again he told me in order to get 7.1 pcm that I had to...get this...push the 7ch stereo button .

****Im editing to tell you that denon just told me that they forgot that some of these models lack a firmware that was installed during production in the early stages so some have the firmware and some dont...If you dont you can send it to denon and they will install it. If you cant get 7.1 pcm through hdmi, contact denon and tell them about the firmware issue.****

Well I just got a PS3 from C****o and was all excited. I set it up and went to do an update then it just shut off and started falshing red. I waited like 15 minutes. and tried agian it turned on for 5 seconds then shut off agian with the same blinking light. I keep trying and the same thing happens. It says that happens when it gets hot....but it doesn't feel hot

What should I do? Please help!!!

This is totally FALSE. The 2005 Sony SXRD XBR1 models only accept 1080i over HDMI. Their internal processing takes care of the 1080p deinterlacing, etc. This is a known short-coming of that model and was changed in the newer A2000 and XBR2 series that followed. It's likely that other older displays have this same issue considering the ATSC standard does not specify 1080p, but 1080i.

I don't have a PS3 (yet), so I'm not sure if it can output 1080i. Sony should have provided this capability for backwards compatibility with displays that can only accept 1080i like their own 2005 XBR1. I won't have that issue with either of my Sony SXRD products, but obviously others might.

For those that have this issue... Assuming there's not a 1080i output option on the PS3, then you need to inform Sony about this and request a software change to the PS3 that provides this feature. You can't change the display, so the solution will be at the source or you'll need to put a video processor in the chain that accepts 1080p and has 1080i as an output option.

stevenjw - The PS3 can output 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. The content (BD or Game) is the limiting factor since the PS3 does little conversion.

I was thinking.....when Iwas doing the update I switched from HDMi1 to HDMI2 so I could watch tv while it updated. Is i possible that this caused the PS3 to turn off and interuppt the firmware upgrade. I know that if the firmware upgrade fails it can cause the ps3 to stopp working. What do you guys think????

I have switched to component on my tv to watch other programming during downloads all the time and never had a problem. Using hdmi should not cause a problem. You are only switching inputs on the tv-it should not effect the ps3! But who knows- maybe there is some kinda clitch with the tv you are using- but that should not be the case. Try it again with your new ps3.

Wrong! I thought about it for 2 seconds and concluded that you are wrong. My JVC HD-ILA is 1080p but does not accept a 1080p input. It deinterlaces 1080i to 1080p quite nicely, though.

I am having a display problem with my PS3 on my RCA DLP TV. It works great when I am playing Tiger Woods Golf. When I try and play Madden or Need for Speed I get a black screen. I moved my PS3 to my plasma tv and everything works fine. I noticed that when I put Madden or Need for Speed in on my plasma, the resolution changes to something like 720 x 526. I can get to the PS3 main menu screen on my DLP but it is when the resolution changes for these two games that causes my screen to go black. Any idea how I can play these games on my DLP? Or am I just stuck having to play it on my plasma?

I've done some research today into the internet speed of the PS3. I noticed that when I got to speakeasy.net and test, it was saying well above 11mbs and when I did it via wireless it was more like 3mbs on the down load. Upload was the same for both.

So I connected my laptop via ethernet and also got over 10mbs. I guess that it is a wireless issue that you don't get top speed out of the air.

My question is that when I use the ethernet cable, the downloads from the ps3 store are painfully slow. Anybody else notice this or is it quick? Is this a limitation from the ps3 store that they download so slowly?

Today the disc loader on my PS3 stopped working. It sounds like a helicopter when it tries load or eject the disc. So i called costumer service and the firs guy hung up on me. But after 2 hours of instant calling i finally got trough to another service rep and he helped me out. Sony will replace my PS3. It was purchased at release. It is normal
that things like this will happen on a new system.

Wireless is going to be slower than a wired connection, but it all depends on how busy the Internet is, how busy the server is, etc.

Sometimes it takes a long time to download anything, but usually you can download a 600MB file in a couple of hours over wireless. I usually do those overnight or I start them and switch over to watching TV or a DVD.

Upgrades might take about 10 minutes to download over wireless. It's not that much longer than wired to justify switching over and running cable over to the PS3.

Yes a lot of the first generation 1080p monitors would produce a 1080p picture from a 1080i signal but could not accept a 1080p input. I think that this only matters right now with Blue Ray which has content in 1080p. But the set will still accept a 1080i signal from the Blue Ray if you lower the settings on the PS3 (or other Blue Ray) and then upconvert to 1080p and I would guess that the picture would look nearly identical to a native 1080p signal throughput to a 1080p accepting TV.

I own a PS3, a Sony SXRD A2000, and a digital receiver with an optical in. The PS3 is upgraded to firmware 1.5, however there appears to still be a bug in my PS3. The PS3 frequently erroneously sends audio signals over HDMI that it should not.

Settings:
BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) = Linear PCM
BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) = Bitstream
Settings => Audio Output Settings = Digital Out (Optical)

I have the Audio Output Settings set to "Digital Out (Optical)" with both DD5.1 and DTS 5.1 checked on.

As I access special features such as the music video on the Underworld: Evolution disc (or any number of The Corpse Bride features), my A2000 often states the message "Unsupported Audio Signal. Please check your device output." The PS3 shouldn't even be sending an audio signal to my A2000 in this case, should it?

If I instead set the Audio Output setting to HDMI (with only 2Ch 44.1 and 48 kHz selected) the audio stream makes it to my A2000 fine with no warning messages. However, I don't care if the TV can get the audio signal or not. I just want my receiver to get the 5.1 optical outputs (with no warning messages on my TV). I seem to have all the settings correct.

FYI... I have done the special reboot (turning off the main power, turning on the main power, and then holding the on "button" until it beeps multiple times), and this didn't fix the problem at all.

Why is the PS3 sending an erroneous audio stream to my A2000? Do other A2000 owners have this same problem?

I would guess that was the case with over 90% of the model year 2005 1080P sets that were sold (Brillian and HP were the only exceptions that I remember).
