Let our Miis mingle! Let's trade Wii Numbers! - Page 17

I have just gotten a wii system this past month and just yesterday connected to the internet. We are kinda "green" at this so I may not be doing it right. I think I am supposed to post my number here. My wii number is
0962 5404 3667 1454. So, now someone can do what? Send their mii's to my plaza? See, told you I was green! lol

My mii name is Mooma and I am jazzys mom

Yeah, trading Wii numbers pretty much just lets you send Miis to each other. To be honest, I don't think people bother trading Wii system numbers that much anymore. When the Wii first came out, people traded them all the time, thinking they'd be key to online play. But then when online games came out, it turned out almost every game has its own code totally separate from the Wii system code anyway. So if you just want to trade Miis, you did the right thing. But if there's a specific game you want to play online, you'll want to exchange that code, too.

Not to rain on your parade about trading Wii numbers if you wish. But from reading the thread, it doesn't look like it goes on all that much (though who knows what's going on over PM...).

Oh, so you can play games with your friends over the internet? I'd love to do that! Can you play the wii sports over the net?

No. Games w/ online play will have the blue Nintendo WFC (WiFi Connection) logo on the front cover.

Wii games w/ online play as well as additional paid content (like purchasing new songs for Rock Band/Guitar Hero, for instance) will have this logo:

Some of the more popular Nintendo-made online Wii games would be:

Mario Kart Wii - if you are more of the "casual" gamer & want some online play - you need to own this one NOW. A more serious gamer with a Wii? You should still own this NOW. And should you do so, post your Kart Friend Code so we can swap 'em & race! Another game that I play a lot & have since it came out.

Super Smash Bros Brawl - killer game. Very manic, yet kid friendly fighting game (all classic videogame characters - no blood). Online play used to be spotty at times, but has improved in quality as of late (at least when I have played, it works great).

Animal Crossing: City Folk - this one is the 1st Wii game to allow voice chat w/ the WiiSpeak mic add-on.

A few 3rd party faves:

Rock Band 2 - great online overall, excellent & growing catalog of new tracks you can buy. My own "most played" game in a while. Can count the days on 1 hand that have not seen RB2 get played at least a little since I got it XMAS day.

Guitar Hero World Tour - not as great as RB2, IMO, but still a very good game. If you want a "full band" music game for the family, get this one. Then buy the Rock Band 2 disc (GH instruments will work w/ RB2, but not vice versa)

Most current EA Sports titles (Madden, Tiger Woods, etc)

Call of Duty World at War

There are several others, as well as downloadable WiiWare titles from the Wii Shop Channel like Dr Mario or Onslaught. And online functions seem to be popping up on more future releases.

Online capable titles can have as little features as online high score leaderboards that get updated autmatically all the way to full on competitive/cooperative play. Your Rock Band 2 "band" can have 4 members, in four different locations worldwide, playing on different Wiis.

Sorta related & of interest to some here - I read an article yesterday where a new NPD report states that Wii is second only to XBOX360 in amount of users playing online via consoles. 50% of 360 folks play online, Wii users jumped to 29%. PS3 rounds out the list in 3rd. Interesting....

Thank you! That helps a lot! I have MArio Cart so I can play that with other family members that have a wi fi connection. Interesting! I am surprised that Nintendo didn't make their sports game that ships with wii wi fi

Online gaming on Wii was virtually nonexistent when the machine debuted. Wii WiFi connections were really only good for sending emails, photos, etc. It was all about the "in person" group experience. Online gaming on Wii came later.

You can't beat Kart for overall fun - mixed w/ some frustration at times. But all good.

Keep in mind that you will have to swap Mario Kart-specific Friend Codes with others in order to play them directly online.

If you check the Kart owners manual - and granted you have installed the Mario Kart Channel the games prompts you to do when you first play it - any Wii console Friends you have (meaning those who you have swapped the code you first posted here with) can be invited as Kart Friends via the existing console connection. No need to swap/enter someone else's Mario Kart Friend Code in these cases.

Actually the MK manual handles the "what to do" regarding online play rather well, IIRC.

Wow! That sounds rather deep! My son is a gam whiz so I am going to have him read your reply as he'll understand it much better tha my husband or I do! lol We are rather dense I'm afraid! So, if I want to play Kart with a friend that friend also has to have the Kart game? Where do I find the Mario Kart channel?

Thank you sooooo much for putting up with my insane questions! lol

Best advice? Check the Kart manual. But the game should have prompted you to install the Channel the 1st time you inserted it into the Wii. If you did, there should be a Mario Kart "window" on the main Wii menu (and not the Channel displaying the disc that is currently inserted!)

Thank you! I'll check out the manual. We got Mario Kart when we got the wii system so if it prompted us we didn't know what we were looking at! lol It doesn't come up on the wii channel menu though so I'll go through the manual. We probably did something wrong when we first inserted the disc! lol

If I can make a recommendation. As a newcomer to this thread, start adding people from the end of the thread working your way back in time. It will make your friends people that have at least visited recently!

It's also nice to still see this thread used a year and a half later.

I remember we had an Xbox Gamertag thread that worked really well at one point. I think it's time for a Wii one. So far, the only thing that trading Wii Numbers lets you do is allow your Miis to mingle with friend's Miis, and send messages back and forth through the Message Board. But damn, I want to see my Mii Plaza full, and I want different characters in my Wii sports teams and crowds!

For those not familiar, you find your personal Wii Number in your Address Book. You can get there by hitting Wii Message Board on the Wii Channels page, then click Create Message. You'll see your Address Book on the righthand side. Your Wii Number should be a 16 digit number formated as XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Bring that back here and post it! This alone will allow messages to be sent once WiiConnect24 is on, you add someone's Number, and you add theirs.

Second step, turn on WiiConnect24! In order for this to work, your Wii needs to be on the internet. Setting up your wireless connection is far outside of the scope of this post, but if you were able to do the two updates that were available the day you bought your Wii, then you are good to go. From your Wii Channels page, hit Wii Options button in the bottom-left corner and go to Wii Settings. Scroll to the second page and hit WiiConnect24. The two important things that need to be done for Mii mingling and the Wii Numbers to mean anything are that WiiConnect24 and Standby Connection both need to be turned on. Slot Illumination is also related, but is a preferrence thing. The slot will glow when your Wii has something to tell you (even when in standby) like you have a new message from one of your Wii Friends.

Last step, turn on mingling! From the Wii Channels page go into your Mii channel and hit the Mii Parade button. You'll probably be told that nobody is arround. Then hit the Travel Settings button and allow traveling. One last thing. On the first page of your Mii editor for each Mii you have is a Mingle button. Turn it on the allow that Mii to mingle.

Gai came up with an excellent idea. When posting your Wii Number, also post your preferred name for other people's address books and the name of the Mii that represents you. The address book name needs to be 10 characters or less, and preferrably be related to your AVS username.

Also, according to HoodedSoldier, there is a way to force your Mii to go to other people's systems. More info to follow...

Now, add me and post your number! (Note: If you are joining us after post #114 in this thread, please don't add me. My Address Book is now as full as I would like it for now.)

My Wii Number:
8598 1078 2763 8070

My Name:
LordJames

My Mii:
LordJames

I'll see your Mii online.

Update 2007.01.05: DaverJ requested the following be added.
-----------------------------------------------
Ones that are now just getting the system, myself included, are just posting their Wii's number. As you know, mingling only works if two people add each others system numbers to the address book.

My recommendation is to edit your original post to say that anyone who wants mingling Mii's to:

-subscribe to this thread with email notification
-add addresses from this thread to their Wii's address book
-post which addresses (with AVS names!) they added, and post their own Wii's address. If their AVS name and personal Mii's name are different, they should probably post that info too.

That way if we get an email notification that a new person has submitted their Wii address, we can look to see if they added us to their address book and are waiting for us to do the same.

You might also want to post that if someone's address book is filling up (like your own), that person should probably edit their post to remove their system from being added to others.

What do you think... does that make sense?
