"Law & Order: SVU" on NBC in HD - Page 5

Good episode tonight. Sharon Stone's performance was really good.
Looks like she will be in next week's all new episode too.
Last night's episode felt like an introductory course in American jurisprudence at times. Regardless, it was a nice change of pace and Sharon Stone adds an interesting element to the show. If anything, she does have elaborate ways in testing reasonable doubt.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. Again, Sharon Stone seems to steal the show. Maybe it's her prettiness?
I liked that "legal setup contract" that they did in closed chambers.

Sharon Stone on an all new episode next week.

Holy moly, good season finale.
Sharon Stole, again, did a tremendous job.

Hapless, pathetic, awful show. They should rename it "AS the SVU Turns".
Geez. Anymore negative words you can throw in there as well?

lol.

^^^ Actually I also think the "SVU" finale stunk to high-heaven, especially the way it wasted the wonderful talents of Isabelle Huppert (whom I adore) into a cliche' melodrama of the lowest-common denominator. And the confessions about her private hell that Sharon Stone's ADA character tried to use to calm the shooter in the morgue would have made a great one-on-one with Stabler (they had history together), but instead all we get are concerned shots of Elliott from behind a ventilation vent. Weak ending to a weak season. When is "SVU" going to get a permanent ADA to handle its cases? Ever since Michaela McManus left the role has been kicked around so much we end with Sharon Stone as a stunt-casting weakling. Argghhh!!!

I agree on every point. I would like to get a much less soap opera-ish season ending to this show. I don't know which was worse, the finale with the ridiculous Stuckey storyline or this.

Rosie Perez injured doing her own 'SVU' stunt

The scene called for an extra to physically shake Perez, 45, who says she felt a pain in her neck when it happened and wanted to stop. But she continued to do two more takes and immediately knew something serious was wrong. She had a slipped disc and a bulging disc, reports Hip Hollywood, and recently underwent a bone marrow procedure and surgery on her neck.

The president asked Perez what happened and she explained she was injured performing a stunt. "Don't you know they have professionals for that?" he said.

The actress said that she likes to do her own stunts and the president joked, "Obviously, you're not that good at it."

I hope she's OK.

Perez's unfortunate circumstance and Hargitay's collapsed lung provides some evidence that being the sweetest person may have its drawbacks in terms of luck.

Melissa Sagemiller In For Paula Patton On NBC Drama 'Law & Order: SVU'
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com's TV Editor - September 10th, 2010

Paula Patton just landed the biggest movie role in her career: the female lead in Mission Impossible 4. But to be able to do the film, Patton had to pull out of Law & Order: SVU where a month ago she landed a recurring role as new Assistant District Attorney Mikka Von.

I hear the producers of the veteran NBC procedural from Wolf Films and UMS were gracious in allowing Patton to bow out after one episode. Melissa Sagemiller has been tapped to step in and recur as the new ADA on the show, which returns for a 12th season on Sept. 22. Stephanie March was the last actress to play an ADA on the show full time. Last year, Sharon Stone and Christine Lahti both did high-profile multi-episode arcs as ADAs. Sagemiller's series credits include Raising the Bar and Sleeper Cell.

An OK episode last night.

I love it when "SVU" goes back to its roots and sticks with a depraved sexual crime from start to finish (there were a lot of these in the show's early years) without the usual detours into something else. JLH brought the acting goods (though I couldn't help but think the extended nude hospital examination scene was done just to titillate the male 18-49 demo), the crossover with "LOLA" went smooth (I liked Skeet's detective better on "SVU" than on his own show) and everybody except for Munch had at least a scene or two to shine. The perv was kind-of a wimp though, not the 'going crazy' a**hole type they usually cast for this role.

Only two more episodes and we get a new "SVU" headquarters/bat cave to account for the show's production moving from Jersey to NYC. After 12 years it'll be cool for the show's crib to get a facelift.

The hospital examination far from titillated me. I thought that scene was effective in making her look like a tormented rape victim.

I completely agree that Skeet's character played out better on SVU than on LA. It will probably take me a bit of time to warm up to the new show.

Fine, but could you expand on this a bit? Why was it just mediocre? I haven't watched it yet.

I liked the premise of the show and thought that the guy who played, Harris, the creepy perp, was very good. Jennifer Love Hewitt not so much, however. I thought that her performance as a multiple rape victim was unconvincingly over-the-top, so much so that it detracted from what was in other respects an above average episode.

The other weakness of the episode is one that the show's writers are guilty of far too often. The judge's decision to dismiss the original case because the original DNA evidence in the other cases had either been lost or compromised was nuts. Finding the New York victim's driver's license and engagement ring in the perps L.A. storage locker, coupled with the victims testimony, seemed to me to be overwhelming evidence of his guilt. If it looks like a skunk, moves like a skunk, and stinks like a skunk, it's a skunk. I can't imagine that any judge in the real world would dismiss a rape case under such circumstances. What the hell, though, this is television.

ha.

Usually, people do not reply to me in this thread. I've had times where I posted 4 weeks in a row and nobody cared to post.

It was mediocre because nothing 'came at me' with a "wow" or "aww".
Some episodes leave me breathless. ha

If I told you the storyline, it'll ruin it for you

That especially applies to this show. Maximum amount of enjoyment from SVU is gained by not taking proper or expected procedure too seriously. For instance, the way the detectives taunted the suspect was quite over-the-top, but it added some enjoyment.

Law & Order Crossover: LOLA's Terrence Howard Drops By SVU!
By Michael Ausiello, TVLine.com - March 2nd, 2011

In a shrewd bit of product placement, NBC is embedding Law & Order: Los Angeles leading man Terrence Howard in an episode of Law & Order: SVU.

The crossover — slated to air during May sweeps — finds Howard’s LOLA character, DA Joe Dekker, stepping outside his official DA post to defend a friend’s son. Representing the people will be returning ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal).

NBC has yet to announce a return date for LOLA, which underwent a major revamp earlier this year in the face of disappointing ratings and reviews.

The network is no doubt hoping a little exposure on SVU will give the rookie drama a boost.

Wasn't Casey Novak disbarred? How the hell do you go back to being an ADA after losing your license to practice law? Of course "SVU" is the same show that sent an ADA (Alex Cabot) into the Witness Relocation Program, then back into the DA office, then off again, on again, then off to Africa to try war criminals... I love this show!

Thought so - I'd be much happer with a cameo from Jack McCoy, but for SVU, seems like the law is just there to impede their investigations, vs an integral part of the show.

Forget May sweeps, the "LOLA" crossover and Casey Novak's return are slated to air TONIGHT (APRIL 6th). Guess they wanted some hype for the return of the retooled "LOLA" next Monday night, so the May sweeps stunt has been moved earlier. Can't wait.

Thanks for the update, dad.

I'll be checking in tonight, as well as the premier of LOLA.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Eyed For New Female Lead Of 'SVU' As Mariska Hargitay Closes Deal To Return, Chris Meloni Not Done
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - May 14th, 2011

EXCLUSIVE: Just in time for NBC's upfront presentation on Monday, Law & Order:SVU star Mariska Hargitay has closed a new deal to return to the crime drama for its upcoming 13th season, in which she will pass the female lead baton on a new actress. I hear Jennifer Love Hewitt is being courted for the gig though no formal offer has been made. Meanwhile, SVU's leading man Christopher Meloni still has no deal for next season.

Going into the contract negotiations, Hargitay had asked to scale back her workload on the show. The producers granted her request, and she will work fewer hours at her previous salary of about $385,000 an episode ($400,000 with backend and other payments included.) For the first 13 episodes, Hargitay's character Olivia Benson will continue to solve sex crimes alongside her partner, presumably Elliot Stabler (Meloni), pending him closing his deal. Then Benson will be promoted to a supervisor position, with a new female detective taking her place.

That is the role that the producers are eying Hewitt for. Hewitt is not a stranger to SVU - she did a memorable guest appearance this past fall. As for Meloni, whose current salary is the same as Hargitay's, I hear the actor is seeking a raise but talks with the studio are in very early stages and moving slowly, so it doesn't look like he will have a deal before NBC's upfront. The last time Hargitay and Meloni's contracts were up 2 years ago they didn't sign new pacts until end of June.

Hewitt seems like an awkward choice. She did play the role of victim well enough, but I just can't imagine her as a lead detective on this show.

Regardless, SVU will soon be our only Law & Order fix.
