Time for a screen and projector--you have a wall all ready for it!

I am hoping to join the club soon officially. I have some model of B&W in ceiling speakers for effects but was looking to replace my Klipsch KLF-30's and matching center (C7) with B&W's.

I wanted a smaller package for sure. I was looking at the PM1's as they look amazing so it pleases the wife and I imagine for almost exclusively movies/tv, they will sound amazing.

Can someone give me some input regarding my initial choice? As well as recommend a center to match.

I called a local dealer and he was suggesting a HTM3. I couldnt find any info on it but I did find a HTM2 which was priced at $5000usd on some random site I found which it is even close to that, it is more than I want to spend on this particular setup.

Thanks in advance. I tried to use the 'search this thread' feature but it doesn't come up. I will try that again from another computer. I cant change popup blocker settings on a work pc.

I am way behind on TVs.

I just now realized that they have discontinued DLP TVs? eek.gif

Anyway, I wish I had bought that 92" Mitsubishi DLP. I have 2 Mitsubishi DLP (62" & 73") and both have been fantastic.

If I saw that 92" for $2900, I would grab it for sure. smile.gif

I would like to rephrase my statement on black. I think it can look really good in a room. It could be just as easy to fit into a rooms decor as the wood colors and it does look classy. I think i was just tired of black - there would have been too much in my room. But yes - gloss black can look spectacular as well. But you have to DUST way more. smile.gif

I don't know if it is just me or what but I think that rosenut could be work great in your room too, did you considered it?

I give up - where?

[EDIT - your setup smile.gif - VERY NICE]
It has to end at some point - it would be too painful (debt) otherwise.
Once i have center and surrounds, I will leave it for a decade or so.
But i do want to change to a 4K projector - i think i will do that.
And i have thoughts about mono-blocks

you see - here i go again mad.gif

jajaja It never end! my last upgrade was a stereo combo for my HT and my wife want to killing me now because I'm considering get the 802di this year too! biggrin.gif

BTW I just remember that I not put my new pics so here they are:

On Sunday i listened at very high SPL for FOUR hours - never got bored smile.gif They are REVEALING - i hear sounds and nuances that i have NEVER heard before in tracks i have heard a thousand times.

I have to admit that the treble on some mp3 files can sound harsh - but i think it is recording because i will go to another mp3 with exact same kbps and it will sound amazing. So with 802D2, garbage in, garbage out.

All of listening was using DLNA wireless to my Windows 7 DLNA server where i have all my digital music files on disk. I just did a big re-org where i deleted every file below 256 kbps. I am now re-ripping my CDs using full quality WAV files.

I am happy my last push a few weeks ago to go for your 'dream' speaker worked out well for you. The list you had all are fine speakers but not picking the 802D2's would have you in a state of wondering about them now you know smile.gif. It will take a few weeks for your ears to get used to the new found sound. For me the harsh sound on most tracks became less (probably mostly my brain re-adjusting).

For movies save up and go for the biggest center you can, in this case the htm2d it might look smaller than the old htm1d but once you see it in person you know it can more some air and punch if needed.

Daniel.

Yes, the sound is outstanding in 7.2 Marlan + JL Audio combo :)

HTM2D = diamond tweeter 3-way.
HTM3 = non-diamond tweeter 3-way discontinued model. It's still big, but might match nicely (if price is right). If I recall, originally ~$2.5k retail

Otherwise, HTM4D = current model 2-way diamond @ $2.5k retail.

I bet you are saying that because the room has such light colors (cream, off-white etc) and rosenut would be a great contrast.
Cherrywood is light wood against a light colored room which is not ideal.
I definitely thought about it but just could not fall in love with the rosenut (it was in store). I like the way the Marlan head contrasts with the lighter cherrywood and the lighter room.
I may try make my room a bit darker with a dark rug or dark acoustic room treatments on walls etc.
But rosenut against light cream / off-white room like mine would look very good, i have to agree.

Blacks a better when furniture has a lot chrome and glass. All room should be done in strict black and white colors too. But that would be more in place for high-rise condo than southern estate house.

Yes - now i know - i am very happy with decision. I bet Kef Ref 205/2 would have been good too but they were not my dream from 15 yrs ago.
Thanks for helping smile.gif

It will be HTM2 Diamond in cherrywood - a few more weeks.
And then 804 Diamond in cherrywood for surrounds a few weeks after that.
Standby for pics smile.gif

I would have loved to audition the 802Ds when I bought my 205/2 s but my room is too small for the 802s. frown.gif The 803Ds just did not interest me enough. Maybe some day 800D3s?

Like I said, from all the research i did (i did a tonne) and from what i read and the measurement graphs i saw, Kef Ref are in the very top tier.
Kef Ref 205/2 were actually my top choice for many weeks before my final flip-flop.

I will be a daring to offer this statement but all indicate that the new version of the 800 series will not come until 2015, if you look back this was occured with the older versions so if this statement it is true, you can enjoy the current model for 14 month more wink.gif

BTW your wife will be very happy with this debts that is coming, just kidding enjoy your new toy!

if you can it is a good idea put some budget in acoustic treatment for the room, with a large room like yours is a must! many people think that is not necesary but I think is the bigger improvement you can get.

D3 in 2015 - that gives me a little while to say i have the latest and greatest - well not greatest - that would be 800 D2 which i could not afford.

Hopefully the D3 will not replace diamond with "unobtainium" rolleyes.gif

You mean for aesthetic reasons? Yeah, the 802/803's Marlan Heads and nice bods are artistically pretty.

The 800/802 don't sound any better. They certainly measure worse.

So actual sound-wise, it would be another toss up, just like with the Revel Studio2.

Umm, yeah, only like a million times.

Funny, they sound pretty good to me. I would certainly put money into a blind test between my 800's and 802's in my room and someone could feel free to throw in a 804 as well smile.gif 804's just come off as thin in comparison from my experience, they just don't have the depth for obvious reasons or the warmth throughout the mids.
