Panasonic Rebate

Thread Starter
Hi group from the "new guy". I look forward to learning a lot from this forum.

So, I have been getting serious about the Pany 42PX60U with the $200 Panasonic delivery/ installation rebate.. When the price dropped $300 at CC and CUSA this week, I got real serious. I had a bad experience with the CC people, so I went over to the local BB store and asked them to match the CC weekly sale price (NOT the Black Friday price). The sales guy said he would, but he told me their deal had the Panasonic rebate built in as an "instant" rebate if I purchased an install package from them. I told him I thought it was a mail-in, but he told me no.

Does anyone know for sure?

I had planned on taking the TV home myself and installing, so maybe I would then have to produce an invoice to show proof that I had "hired myself" for the job to get the mail-in $200. Is that necessary (or legal)?

He also told me that their "Black Friday" doorbuster price on the TV did not allow the $200 rebate. I asked him if he could show me prrof of that, and all he said was that you couldn't double-dip on such discounts. Again, anyone know for sure?

It's a mail in rebate and the sales person is BS'ing you. As for the legality of DIY installation charges... you roll the dice that you won't get the rebate and or they audit you.

BB can not claim this one for you.

This offer is only available to the end user and original purchaser. No claims from re-sellers, dealers/distributors, their employees or warehouse facilities, groups, clubs or organizations will be accepted or acknowledged. No P.O. boxes accepted, except military APO/FPO (Air/Army Post Office or Fleet Post Office) addresses

But I would be worried about this one.

This rebate comes from Panasonic and has nothing to do with seller. Just get delivery (free in most cases from local stores) and 'install' which can be 'complicated' or 'simple'. Simple could mean..sitting the tv on a tabletop'. Follow thru what to do on Panny web site. This rebate is only for consumer sets. The 5 year on site warranty goes along with the commercial Panny panels. If you buy a commercial set, you can also get a $100 rebate.

Question about this topic. I am buying a 42" Panny Plasma Friday at sears. Their basic installation wall mounting charge is $329. Question is do I have to get sears to do the istall since Im buying there or can I get someone else to do it if I can find a better price and still get the rebate?

You can get the rebate..even for a simple install..as sitting the tv on a shelf. You can get the install from anyone and get the rebate of $200. Info is on Panny web site.
Also, the form to be filled out is there.

I don't want to "cheat" the system but can I install it on the wall and still send in the rebate? It is hard work that will take me hours of work cableing through the wall etc.
Panasonic is probably partnering with their dealers to offer the install rebate. Why would they give that rebate on a self-install?

The rebate is only if you have a receipt that shows the delivery/install charges!

"2. Return this completed form, along with a copy of your sales receipt with the purchase price circled and your installation/delivery receipt. IMPORTANT: You must cut out and include the original label from the Plasma HDTV carton, which includes the UPC code, model number and serial number, or your claim cannot be processed."

The rebate..pertaining to installs..includes..just placing a tv on a tabletop or shelf..very simple..it does not have to be installed in a wall..etc. The object of the rebate from Panny is to sell more tvs. I would certainly get the rebate form and fill it out. You can certainly work it out with a delivery man..to 'include' install on the sales slip..then, have him place tv on a tabletop, etc.

Hmmm... I got a completely different (and surprisingly better) explanation from the BB retailer I bought from.

First, when I asked about installation he told me that they have a great deal going - they charge $200, but they give a $200 discount to cover it. In other words, the TV is marked down by $200 and then they charge me the $200 as installation and the price is the same.

Second, while doing all of the paperwork he discovered "Hey, there is also a $200 rebate from Panasonic which I can apply as well!". So, the set was discounted by $400 and then I was charged for $200 for having them deliver it, set it on my entertainment center and attach the cables. I certainly won't complain about that.

And this was from one of their Magnolia HiFi supervisors, not a floor worker so I can't believe that he was that misinformed.

I guess I could download the rebate from Panasonic as well since my receipt shows the installation charges except that I bought a special unit that had already been unboxed (but not turned on yet) since they were out of stock. Since the boxes don't go back together once the TV is out they threw the box out for me and they will deliver it with bubble wrap - so I won't have the UPC to get anything from Panasonic. (I'm sure I have you all crying now...)

Actually, the fact that they have the box might explain the additional Panasonic rebate on my BB receipt - I suppose they could be planning to register for the rebate themselves, but Panaosonic may also have a "floor model install" deal with the dealers which they were planning to submit for this set and he simply extended the savings to me...?

Either way, there was definitely some very funny math involved in this sale.

Indeed, very funny. The rebate is from Panasonic directly..has nothing to do directly with dealer. It is for a delivery and install (remember, very simple counts) of a consumer set.

Magnolia CANNOT submit the form for the rebate....end user only. Demand the UPC from the box! See what they say....since they cannot use it.

I already have to call back and ask for a new stand (the stand came with a couple of small scratches on the front of it from having sat in a warehouse overnight outside of the box). I'll ask for the UPC while I'm at it.

But I have to tell you - I feel kind of guilty asking for even more money back on this set - I'm sure I got it below cost already (there was a huge discount due to a pricing anomaly in the computer before they started doing the install rebate discounts which took $400 off of that already low price). I did pay back $200 of that $400 for the delivery and install, though, but that was still $200 down from a really low price. Pretty soon I'll have this set for free... (Well, OK, still a ways to go for that...)

Downside - I've been running the burn-in DVD and I noticed one black pixel on the red screen (which I don't think was there an hour or so ago). Grrrrr...

I am considering getting the 6U from Costco. They offer a $300.00 manufacturer's coupon which will automatically be deducted at checkout. Does that disqualify the $200 mail-in rebate? Thanks.

Read the install/freight rebate and if you qualify then mail it in.....done!
You need to have a receipt for the charges of the install/freight.....do you?

Is this why people are going nuts for panasonic? On three seperate occasions I saw three Panasonics, two, and yesterday one being delivered to the door waiting for customer pick-ups. With all the TV's I thought it was strange to keep seeing the Panasonic.

damn I should've got one myself.

The $200 rebate from Panasonic for delivery/install (sitting the tv on a stand) is independant of any other discounts/deals from the retailer. You must get form off of the Panasonic site.
According to Panasonic customer service, the rebate is "up to" $200. They told me that they look at the receipt and rebate the actual amount of the delivery charge with a $200 max. Personally i hope they were wrong since my simple installation (table top) is only $80. I sure am looking forward to getting the set this Thursday. Then all i have to do is decide which i like better a 45" Sharp LCD or the Panasonic. I hope i like the Panasonic better since it will save me a bunch of money.

I just got my "Dear John" letter from Panasonic informing me that they would not be rebating $200 for delivery/install of 50" THPX600U from Costco. Costco charged $165 for delivery and my wife asked them to "unpackage and set up" the display on a cabinet... cable hookup was not performed by the delivery service. This "unpackaging and setup" was clearly written by the delivery service, and a copy was included with the rebate forms...but no go on the rebate. Do I have a gripe?
Doesn't it mention that warehouse stores are not included in the rebate program? I know you got it online, but Costco is a warehouse store, and they must figure the online is an extension of the warehouse.
seems like you have a gripe. just for the $165 maybe not the whole $200. i would call it a delivery and install not an unpackage and setup.
call or write them back and dispute it.

only thing to check is that sometimes costco list the total price with the shipping included instead of seperate and if that was the case they may not allow the rebate.

but if you have the invoice and it is listed seperately then certainly sounds like you should qualify for the rebate.

No, it mentions that a dealer/reseller/wholeseller/warehouse can not send in the rebate form only the end user/buyer.

costco is currently selling the commercial panasonic 50 and 65" plamsas with the added notation of the 5 yr panasonic warranty is available for buyers so no reason the $200 rebate would have been excluded either.
Thanks for the support... I'll try calling tomorrow. Didn't have any choice in the wording... "unpackage and TV setup" was what the delivery service wrote down. It is designated as a separate shipping charge on the original invoice/receipt, but it doesn't specifically mention "installation" or "setup". I was hoping to hear if other Forum members who purchased Panasonic displays from Costco had any luck if they tried getting the rebate... gives me a little more ammunition when I call.

Anyone else have luck with this rebate. I had given up hope, but noticed that according to the panasonicconsumerrebates website I have a check coming for $200. Bought the 42" 60U back in November for a great price when discounting was fast an furious among B&M retailers locally, now feel even better about doing so.

Panasonic rebates/offers have been a mixed bag for me. I bought a Blu-ray player and received my three free movies within a week; I bought a dvd player years ago and it took half a year before I received the rebate check; I sent in a rebate form for a Panasonic receiver and the form was returned because I had used an address label instead of printing my name on the rebate form. I sent a follow-up form where I did print my name, but the claim was rejected because the people on the other end had lost the UPC and sales receipt. But it sounds like you're on the road to success. Congratulations!
Got the $200 rebate check drawn on a bank in Tenn. yesterday in the mail. Puts the cost of my 60U very close to 1k including tax. Glad I bought when I did as I enjoy it very much and get much more use with two little kids around then I did my projector. Best of luck to the rest who are waiting for their rebate checks.
For those who saw their rebates appear on the panasonicconsumerrebates site, did it matter whether or not you used the form of the model name with or without the trailing U (i.e. TH-42PX6[00]U vs. TH-42PX6[00])? I keep feeling like I need to check both in case it depends on how the operator entered it when they process my form, but if you found that it shows up when you do the search either way then I can be a little less pedantic when I go to check... ;-)
Mine showed up under the 60 without the U. But it didn't show up for 2 months after I sent in the form, I got the check 2-3 weeks after I found myself on the rebates site. Probably worth checking both the 60 and 60U though.
