The Master List of DVD, HD-DVD & Blu-ray Movies with BASS Thread...With WaterFalls - Page 184

Black Swan tomorrow!! Never saw it in the theaters, but I have to bet it will have some good LFE for dramatic effect. Anyway Kunis + Portman + bed = LFEwhat?

Since I recently upgraded to the DefTech Supercube Reference, I thought I'd spend a week going through some bass-heavy recommendations from this forum. Here's a list of what I watched and my impressions:

Monday - War of the Worlds. I remember watching this on DVD when it was first released and smiling immensely; the Supercube II I had at the time shook like never before. The upgrade deemed itself worthwhile with this film. Like everyone else, easily 5 stars on this. Note: I purchased the bluray for this viewing, as I did on all of the movies for this week.

Tuesday - Percy Jackson. While there are certainly some good bass moments in this movie, and that's what this forum is about, the movie itself I found to be a Saturday morning pre-teen pile of crap. I couldn't recommend it to anyone with half a brain, despite the bass. More satisfying films with equal or better bass are out there... although Randy did wonderful work with the crap he had to deal with. Sorry I bought it; not even worth a rental fee IMO.

Wednesday - How To Train Your Dragon. Also a "younger audience" film, I enjoyed this thoroughly partly because the story is great, partly because the sound is awesome, and partly because I have my own dragon (see pic below). When called upon my room thundered appropriately and my girlfriend and I admired the Supercube Reference's dynamics. Yes, my girlfriend loves getting rumbled as much as I do (though she won't contribute financially to the cost of achieving such rumbles, lol). I give this one 5 stars as well.

Thursday - The Last Airbender. More enjoyable than Percy Jackson, but not much, filmwise. The scene near the end when that wall of water rises up is just spectacular, however, and will be used for demo purposes regularly I imagine. Worth it for that alone. 4 and a half stars for the bass, as there should be more moments like that to warrant a 5.

Friday - Live Free or Die Hard. Purchased on bluray when it first came out, I revisited this one for comparison purposes with the old Supercube II. Great! The Reference is a real winner! 4 and a half stars for this one as well.

And oh, here's the dragon I mentioned:

watched it yesterday and it does have some nice LFE parts. actually liked the movie too

I don't remember who said it before earlier but.. but I just have to second "The Town" as an, at minimum, 4 star or maybe 4.5 flick.
When the flash bang went off the bass was so loud, I honestly thought it had damaged my VTF-2 MK3 when the scene went silent. I actually got up to look at the cone until I heard the bass kick in again.
That is a very amazing scene.

I saw it at the theater and I had no idea it had any LFE until I watched the Blu. It has some nice unexpected lowend in places and the club scene is awesome. Great movie IMO!

I thought it was a decent movie, not great. It became pretty clear who the problem was quite early. They could have and should have gone much darker I think. IMHO

The tower toss is probably the best LFE moment in MM.

I didn't even bother with the explosion - everything up to 1:15:00 was completely disappointing. I think I'd have to vote 3.5 star for this movie. The tower toss was good, but that's literally two minutes out of a 90 minute movie filled with moments where I said, "wait, that's it?" to almost every scene where there should have been eyeball rattling LFE but wasn't.

The tower toss - the only time when the tapped horn wasn't yawning its way through the LFE:

Agree completely. Just goes to show you can't trust crap websites like highdefdigest who rated it 5/5 for Audio: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/4283/megamind.html, and call it "demo worthy". pffft their subs must not drop below 40Hz .

OK guys, I have a pretty impressive bass scene that is low, deep, long and pulsating. The crazy thing is that I found this scene on a streamed foreign film on Netflix. It is a 2010 Bollywood movie that is one of Netflix's newer titles that is in HD and Dolby 5.1.

The name of the movie: Raajneeti

Time: 2 hrs 14 min

Scene: Car blows up. Bass starts after explosion, is probably around 25 Hz, and lasts for almost 5 seconds.
Interesting, I've yet to hear anything resembling base from streaming. I'll check that one out. Hey, I'm from Nawlins too!

Awesome Tony!! Who Dat!! I was living in Algiers when I moved a few years ago. Ben Franklin high school, UNO, and Xavier for pharmacy.

Yeah, if your internet is fast enough (at least a solid 6mbs) Dolby 5.1 comes through. The dubbing of the movie is not comparable to Hollywood movies; however, the scene caught me off guard and really moved some air.

Sorry for the mini reunion here guys. I was a westbanker. Shaw, LSU. Had a good friend at BF in the mid 80's.

I do have 6meg service and get the 5.1, but it never seems the LFE is up to par. I don't really expect it to be BR quality though.

I have a good connection and watched that part not at all impressed. By the way I have an epik conquest.

Cool, it had my dual Epik Sentinels pumping. Sorry to waste your time.

Today I'm going to watch my son's BD copy of "cats and dogs the revenge of kitty galore" in our home theater. I know it's barely watchable, but I have a feeling about the potential LFE on this one after being forced to watch it in the living room (no subs).

TRON = VERY bass HEAVY...may be one of the best bass movies I have heard...and its frequent, heavy stuff and chest hitting stuff...kinda felt like i was on a wooden rollercaoster...see this, crazy bass stuff, I swear they had those bass scenes running hot.

Those ships taking off...thought my room was going to fall apart...also some excellent chest hitting stuff, which is my favorite bass feeling!

I will be watching this tomorrow. My conquest will be put to the test. =)

Tron is excellent, my new demo movie. People with mediocre surrounds will blow them up at reference levels.

In today's headlines: The LFE Drought Is OVER!!!

T-R-O-N L-E-G-A-C-Y !!!

Too many great sonic scenes to graph and LFE to 3 Hz. Hafta watch it again.

Strap in, boys... this one ain't playin'

TRON does rock how do I know got to watch the first 10 minutes before I had to shut it down due to the evil eye! Its all good though will be watching it this weekend by myself.
watched the first 10 min as well last night. the wife felt the floor shake upstairs from the empire. Need to watch this alone.
I watched twice in a row!! The bass is just incredible with a great score backing it up. The mains and bass were in unison, one of my favorite overall sound movie. Again, the surrounds were very dynamic as well, no more any surrounds will do if you watch at reference.

I have not watched it yet so MK does it come close to WOTW?

Yes it does. It is a 5 star bass movie but I will have to watch WOTW again to really compare. The mains were much better than WOTW so that combined with the bass made it a great experience. Think of it like Inception score with FOTP bass.
Man it is going to be hard to wait for the weekend to watch this. Thanks MK for the reply and Bosso for the graphs.

It is a great experience. No filters on this bad boy. It moves lots of air with lots of pressurization.

Awesome. Tron Legacy had fantastic bass at the theater.

Reserved a copy at my local RedBox to watch tonight. I will probably end out buying it too.
