I looked for the models in some of the sticky threads here.
AVeL LinkPlayer2- looks like the best bet so far. It seems to be actually available, brand new, and sends out 720p / 1080i over that odd converter cable. But if it works, that's fine by me. A little pricey, maybe.
Samsung DVD-HD841 - getting hard to find, but looks to still be available.
Zenith DVB 31 - hard to find, might have to hack the firmware, will probably cross this one off my list.
So, does anyone have the ACeL LinkPlayer2? Comments?
edit: I just saw this:
The LinkPlayer2 displays out high definition videos on your screen. The main chip (Sigma Designs EM8620L) can decode a high resolution image for you. And this product can playback standard MPEG1/2/Xvid/DivX®, also high def videos created by MPEG2-TS, Microsoft Windows Media® Video (WMV9), DivX® HD.
Can I play commertial DVD-Video by 720p HD?
A: No, AVLP2's analog out doesn't support HDCP copy protection.
The other option for me, for various reasons, would be to find a A/V switch that will handle HDMI. My new TV only has 1 HDMI input
