Olevia 42" LCD Model 542i - Page 47

Thanks for the response. I hate to spend $85 on a remote I will only use to reprogram my existing remote. I have been very happy with my 542 and keep it on at least 16 hours per day but the input switching is a real PITA! I don't know much about after-market remotes but I was hoping that someone knew of a model under $50 that would control the 542 inputs directly. I *really* want direct input switching.

Hi,
Could you please share how to solve the sequential input switching issue on 542i.

Has anyone mounted the Olevia 542i with an articulating wall mount?
If so, what brand would you recommend...
Thank you

I managed to accuire a 542i on sale for $750, it is perfect in everyway for the money paid but I have one niggling question, and believe it or not I have actually read through all 40+ pages - thanks to everyone for the valuable tips on the speakers/mounts.

I'm watching HD broadcasts using an outdoor antenna and they are perfect, but the "Guide" button on the remote doesn't seem to serve any function at all. Is it just me?! I was hoping for a guide similar to the one my old set-top FTA HDTV box gave with the same OTA signal.

I want to do the firmware update for my TV so it can work with the Harmony remote. I read the firmware upgrade instructions from the olevia website. One thing I don't know is how do I know which comPort I need to use. Is there a place in my pc that will let me know the ComPort number for the usb port that I connect to the tv? Or start from 1 and go up until it works?

My current firmware is 542-b11-060608B and Syntex website recomends firmware 542_B11_061218A. Is this the latest firmware for the 542i model?

Last question, is it pretty safe to do the firmware upgrade?

Thank you for your help

two years. zero problems. $50 harmony 550 works great with the 5421 and all our other equipment.
Same here. The only thing that has given me problems is the Harmony 880 remote, button response is starting to diminish. But TV is still rock solid.

This TV was one of the best values I've ever purchased... plus, the Black Friday story of me and my then 9yo son waiting out in the cold for it is something we'll share for years to come

I downloaded the latest firmware, but I was unable to find the firmware
update software. The instructions indicate the zip file also includes the USB
driver and the update software, but in the zip file was only the tar file and in
the tar file was only the .bin file and a text file describing the changes in the
firmware. Does anyone have the software?

Hi,

My Olevia 542i-B11, which I got in 2006 BF from MC, is not coming out of standby power mode. A technician first thought it is a power board issue, but turns out to be the main board. Even Oleiva does not have the spare boards in stock.

Anyone has an idea if main board can be repaired, or where else can I get the board from?

TIA,
Vik.

When you say "is not coming out of standby power mode" do you mean when you turn the power on (press button on t.v. or remote) the blue led goes out, the sound comes on but the t.v. picture does not come up?

Don't know if this has what you need but might be worth a look: http://olevia.ftpaccess.cc/support/OLEVIA/Firmware/

I posted this in the LCD TV forum, but I was directed here. So anyway, I bought one of these TVs a year or so ago for a bedroom TV. It worked for a while until I decided to wall mount it. I took the bottom stand off and put the brackets on the TV to mount it. Once mounted, the TV would not turn on. I tried different power cables, outlets, and power strips to no avail. I heard that the power supply unit on these TVs can go out, but I'm not sure why it would happen. Is there any way to test the PS unit to see if its bad, and if it is, how do I get a new/used one to replace it? By the way, I've tried switching the on/off switch on the back and nothing happens. There is no light in front of the TV like there was when it worked. Thanks for helping.
does the led light go out or does it stay solid? have you tried calling support? warranty?

I ended up getting a 242t swapped for mine thru corporate :-/
post #1394 of 1469
The light doesn't even come on at all. I tried calling support a while back and they basically said "tough luck, it's out of warranty."

If I were you, first thing I'd do is open up the tv and try to see if the fuse is blown.

When you put the mounting bracket in the tv, one of the screw is too long and touched metal inside.. I'm pretty sure there is info about this problem if you do some searching.

edit: typo

What does the fuse look like and where might it be located? I've Googled this topic in just about every way I can think of and can't find anything about it. If the fuse is bad, is this a hard fix?

Hmm, I only know about the fuse from theory, not from practice. I have replaced a fuse on an older JVC tube tv before, and it was as simple as pulling the fuse off the board and taking it to radio shack and getting a box of replacements for $.89...

More than likely the toughest part of the job will be removing all the screws to get the back off the tv...

It may not be the easy fix it sounds like, it may not even be the fuse, but it's worth a shot...

Might be a silly question, but did you double check that the switch is on, on the back of the tv, next to where the power cord plugs in the tv?

He did mention on his orignal post, the question I would ask is if the actual outlets were checked to make sure there were 120v.

Thanks, I overlooked that.

Thanks for the help guys...I figured it out. There's a small 5 amp ceramic fuse that was bad on the PS unit. I popped in a new fuse and voila! Up and running again. Thanks again.

That is great jdegreez, where did you get the fuse from?

I got a fuse at radio shack. I didn't use a ceramic fuse, there were none anywhere that I could find. I was a bit worried that a glass fuse wouldn't work, but the guy at the store assured me that it would be fine and be able to withstand the heat. I plugged it in and the lights came on. I'm pretty happy - I'm also a fan of stories with happy endings, especially when they happen to me. Once again, thanks for the help!

I have an olevia 542i. I have done a firmware update from version B1-060807A to the newest available firmware B11-061218A.
The update process was carried out smoothly. Here is my problem after firmware update:

I went through Tv auto search ( using the standard and auto search selection). The search process seemed to be fine. It about 40 channel in the digital and 40 in the analogue.

After the searching was done, I could get CNN, CNBC etc. Assuming I am watching CNN after search ( at Channel 42), the screen would show " no signal" if I move the channel to 43 and move back to 42. Even though I can get CNN at channel 42 in the initial search, the CNN channel will be shown as ' no signal" if I went to different channel and then came back to channel 42. In order to watch CNN, I have to do another auto search .

Anyone observe anything similar? thanks?
My MicroCenter BF special is still going strong, even after being moved three times!

This thing has been an incredible value, but I think it is time to upgrade to something a tad more fancy.

Hi,

I have an Olevia 542i-B11 which is not coming out of standby mode. The Blue LED is on when I plug it in, however when I press the power button on remote or TV, it does not power on.

A mechanic said that power board is fine, & it is a mainboard issue.

Where can I get a mainboard for this? Olevia service is now handled by another company & they will not sell spare parts.

Is it possible to put some other motherboard in this?

Thanks.

this happens to me sometimes. Try a different outlet, or if you're using a powerstrip, try another port on it. Playing with the power plug has always worked for me when it didnt work

I have a 3 year old 542i & on HDMI input the TV screen blanks out (multicolor dots) every so often. Turn power off & back on & it's OK for a while. On Component it doesn't happen but the color is always bad--green & purple. Also can't get out of showroom mode. I set it but it does not remain. I think Olevia support no longer exists. No email replies anymore. Originally the TV worked fine.

Haven't tried firmware upgrade yet. That's next.

Need new tuner? Can they be purchased? Or just trash the TV? Paid $800 on BF at Microcenter in PA.
