hrm, fwiw there's no trouble with a Monoprice 5.1 switcher in my setup (HD-A1, Oppo, and SA8300 PVR, into my Sony RPTV), but I'm a bit concerned that there seams to be issues with the Panny.
That being said, I'm one from the "other" side, leaning towards getting a BD player rather than upgrading my A1 to an XA2 at this time. As I've got a pretty sizeable collection of DVD-A, and with a recent confirmation that the unit will even play DualDisc titles (the Oppo will not, stupidly), there a huge incentive to get this model over one of the competitor's.
As this is the only sticky thread for the Panny's performace (the other one's discussing FW), I thought it the best place to ask about it direct performance compared to other BD players, why you guys picked this one over the others, and how any who also have an HD player find the performance of the unit, speed, etc.
I know I'm late into this model, but I'd think after these months, the most recent firmware, and the pending April update (to bring it in line with the forthcoming "A" model) it'll be relevant to discuss the performance, quirks, and troubles of this unit. As I said, searches didn't uncover any obvious threads detailing this on the Panny, although I'm the first to admit my search skills with the AVS interface leave much to be desired.
Finally, if somebody has a good suggestion on where to get one of these units in the Toronto area I'd love to hear it - the one place I know where they have it in stock, Bay Bloor Radio, gave me one of the worst customer service events of my entire life.
Thanks in advance, if the mods think this is too much for a setup/tweaks thread I'm happy to have this moved to a new thread.
