Local BX (military base exchange) has a Sabre 42" HDTV Plasma Monitor (PN: PDT423BKA)

I can't find any information anywhere on the net on this TV and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this monitor.

Good or bad deal thoughts?

TIA

I checked out their web site and the specs and features look pretty good. You should, however, check to see if the service centers are convenient to your location. It does not come with an in-home warranty, and shipping a plasma for service is a costly and risky proposition. If it's not too late, you should take a close look at what has happened to the prices of name-brand plasmas in the last month. Otherwise, I wish you luck. Most plasmas do not require service for many years, but there are no guarantees.

Just stopped by the BX to check out the Sabre 42" plasma monitor. I had the sales associate hook up a DVD player to the set with and HDMI cable (recommended becuase they had an analoge cable running the demo of satallite tv and the picture looked crappy). The picture was absolutely stunning, and this was without tweaking any of the settings. It sold me on it and I am going to purchase one ASAP.

I also purchased this model $800 out the door, deal too good to pass. I was leary also about this unit but apparently they use LG plasma panels and they have the same high contrast 10,000:1 as other brands. The picture is stunning with the HD-DVD 360 add-on. Has all the inputs you could ever need. Go to their site as mentioned above and choose Sabre Quality tab on the left.

I'm an AAFES employee and AAFES has been selling the Sabres since the day after Thanksgiving with a lot of success. I know that our base has sold tons of these plasmas with one or three being bad apples from time to time. The PDT425 is the most popular of the two plasma models. The only difference with the PDT423 is that it does not have an HD tuner built in. The PDT425 does. Prices on these two models have noT changed at all. The popularity of the DVH300BKA DVD player went through the roof. I bought one and it works great. To date the price on that player went from $39.99 to $49.99. Over all the Sabre products the most popular seller is the LCT320 32" LCD TV for $749. We sell out of it almost immediately after it comes back into stock. In May they will be producing a 50" plasma which should be in AAFES stores in June. Price is up in the air right now with the buyers at AAFES HQ in Dallas, Texas.

I just brought home a floor model 42" plasma. I was told it had been on for three weeks, yet when I look at a white screen I can clearly see "Box Office Video, Coming March 22." The bastards at aafes lied to me and sold me a used TV as new. I imagine they'll probably expect me to return it to the store myself. Plasma seems like really fragile unreliable technology, and aafes is no more reliable than a traveling circus.

You bought a floor model, so you knew it was used.

Sabre is now out of business. Any remaining warranty that was on them if you happen to get one within the last year or so is no longer. If you got the "Keep It New" plan and it breaks within their plan period they will cut you a check for the full value of the set if they can't fix it (likely they won't be able to).

I purchased the 42 in monitor when they came out and I actually love it. I have never had a problem with the quality. I did make the mistake of purchasing the monitor instead of the tv. I now an unable to connect it to my cable system as I have not been able to find a TV channel tuner that will adapt to the tv. As long as I use it on the satellight system it is good to go.

I bought the 42" Sabre @ the Nellis BX in January 2007 and today it "popped" and no only shows black and white shadows on any input. Guess I got 5 years and 2 months out of this TV. Shame, I always got comments on how clear the picture was.

Now time to find a new plasma!

Never heard of the brand, though.

Hope you enjoy it!
