Yes, it's a mistake. D* does not carry MSG HD.

From the HDTV Programming Synopsis:

Madison Square Garden - New York - broadcasting 1080i
MSG sports station has select Knicks, Rangers, and Liberty games in HDTV. Special events from MSG are also available in HDTV. It is currently available on Cablevision, Comcast, and TWC in much of the NYC metropolitan area.

Cablevision may never give Direct tv MSG HD, so they can keep more of their customers.

yeah, probably so. and I'm sure they won't be giving verizon fios msg HD either. too bad, that's my next service come late next year

But Cablevision stands to make more money if they have more viewers, no?

They would be losing viewers of their own service because people would be switching from Cablevision to Fios, dish, or directv....

Its not worth it for them to sell their local sports channels in HD to the competiion - they'd lose too much. (They've already made it available to the other cable companies that are not their direct competitors (Comcast and Time Warner))

So from their perspective, they gain nothing.

Couldn't D* at least show this to out of market people if they wanted to? An SD analogy I can think of is that Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia games have been used for the NHL Center Ice package on D* in the past even though due to our bought and paid for lawmakers in DC, this channel will probably never appear on D*.

what happened to the "knowledgeable source" on AVS that said we would have MSG-HD and FSNNY-HD this fall?

that's why you learn not to believe anything related to directv until you see it with your own two eyes. i've given up on the ny sports nets for this season...
yeah.. i've always kept that in mind, but this same source mentioned the NESN-HD, SNY-HD and a couple other RSN-HD launches in the big RSN-HD thread. oh well.

Crossing my fingers for January. If it doesn't come then, maybe it will in the spring for the playoffs. But yeah, with D* who the hell really knows.

Do you remember who that was?

I believe someone had quoted a post from satelliteguys forum that they had found out that MSGHD would come to D*.

I try not to "defend" Satelliteguys.us here, as it often turns into a you-know-what match, but this one is indeed annoying. The D* RSN lookup tool is giving factually wrong information (feel free to use 06825 as a reference):

http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/con...setId=P3000004

You'll notice both the Knicks and Rangers listed as available in HD, when this is false. Also, both the Nets and Mets listed as SD only, which is also false.

also posted here, as well:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...sg#post7981378

In short, D* is messing the whole HD RSN thing up royally, right now, between this and the neighboring markets issue (eg Providence not getting NESN HD even though they're well within the spotbeam and licensed to see it)

I think this is the thread everyone got excited about:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1&page=3&pp=30

That's where I found the info about MSG-HD and FSNY-HD coming to D* in October.

SO that was false info?

NOOOO.....

Edit:Turns out my post is longer than I wanted it to be.

My Question: Is anyone with DirecTV in the New York area able to watch an NHL game in HD aside from HDnet?

For the love of god I just want to watch a local hockey team(devils, rangers, or islanders) in high-def.

Post:
I saw that post about a month ago maybe the end of October about FSN-NY HD and MSG HD coming to Directv. So I went to the directv website, typed in my zip code " to determine if HD games are available in your area" and saw it said "New Jersey Devils (HD available)" listed under all of the channels (MSG-621, FSNNY-624).

So I called directv and asked how to get it. They told me I needed the new Mpeg4 equipment. I said that when I got my HDTivo from them last fall they told me if I had to upgrade to the new equipment it would be free. The lady agreed and scheduled me for an install.

I made sure to ask that she was upgrading my HDtivo with the new HD DVR (HR-20 I believe) because it seemed unreasonable that the process was so easy when tyou have to get on a waiting list on the directv website to buy them because of the demand. She said I was getting the HD DVR.

The install guy came on the scheduled date with the HD Reciever, not the HD DVR. He said they must have made a mistake. I sent him home.

Now I look at the site where it said "New Jersey Devils (HD available)" and it now says "New Jersey Devils (SD Only)". The interesting thing is that the first time I checked that site (before I called them) it said the Rangers were "SD Only" but now it says "New York Rangers (HD Available)"

As of today, there are no legitimate indications that Cablevision will allow the HD feeds of its sports channels (MSG and FSN-NY) to be given to their competition (any other provider available in its areas of service: Dish Network, DirecTV, Fios, and possibly RCN).

(O, and HDNet is supposed to be blacked out if you are in the NY area and it is showing a NY area team, so you wouldn't even get those games)

Yes. I'm in New Jersey and get the Vs. HD games as well as whatever DirecTV decides to put on Channel 95, unless it's the Rangers, Islanders, or Devils. But Vs. HD games featuring those three teams still get shown on 95.

Why, for fudge's sake, can't they just allow people to watch the sport?

I guess they are trying to hang on to market share

The reason why you got the VS. game in HD was because it was a national game and there was no regional coverage for the Rangers game.

I have noticed that the MSG commericals no longer say "only on cable".
