Samsung HLS4676S Calibration

I'm also interested to see some settings, tweaks, etc. for this model.. just picked one up. If not specifically to this model, can anyone point out options and settings, etc. for similar models that follow the same settings? Thanks!

I'd like to see where I can find out how to get into the service menu, easy fixes/settings, and anything else that will help.

Get yourself a calibration DVD (AVIA or DVE, available at amazon.com) to properly adjust your settings for your specific display for your viewing room and lighting conditions. And stay out of the SM unless you know what you're doing (it's a great way to permanently mess up your TV since there is no reset button for most displays).

I just bought this TV the other day. I immediately ran Digital Video Essentials. I'm no expert with calibrations, but after running DVE, satellite via component video looks way to colorful. At least it's more vibrant than what I'm used to. Skin tones look pretty good, but anything blue is very, very, very blue. I have never seen such vibrant blues on any TV ever. Yellow too is also very exaggerated.

Question, do most people turn the digital NR and DNie on or off? I ran DVE with all that stuff turned off, and I haven't played with the setting yet. Maybe I'll run everything again with everything turned on.

I must say the TV is sweet looking in the slim size and gloss black cabinet. I also like the fact that there are no power lights on while viewing.

Just realized I ran DVE with the TV set to Cool 2. Oh well, I set it to warm 2 and it looks a bit better but still very vibrant blues. Example: Carolina's blue socks in the NFL Monday Night game. Also, the yellow first down line is overly yellow.

I have this TV and I ran the video essentials disk with both DNle and NR turned on.

I think you could turn DNle off and it would be fine, you would just end up with different
picture/contrast settings. I had to leave NR on. Too much digital noise from my satellite
receiver.

Also, check your setting for the color temp. Mine came out of the box with a bluish cool temp and I prefer a neutral temp.

Yeah, I need to rerun it with color temp on warm2. I am really loving this TV though.

OK, here are my settings after running the DVE disk.

DNLe - OFF
DNR - OFF

Mode - Movie
Contrast - 55
Brightness - 45
Sharpness - 30 ( I couldn't tell any difference from 0-50 so I compromised )
Color - 45
Tint - G50/Red50
Color Tone - Neutral

This is in a room that faces West so in the afternoons I have above average
ambient lighting. Yours may be different.

I normally view satellite TV ( vip211 from Dish ) hooked up via HDMI
to the Sammy.

Hope yours ends up looking as good as mine does.

Glad it's helping. Yes, not everyone will like the picture set the same. The important thing is to "unlearn" liking the factory "torch" settings. This is a very good looking TV.

Also whats the average lamp life on this tv.I play games and watch movies about
6-8 hours a day.I have the best buy warranty for 4 years.Is there any kind of air filter

Just picked up this tv. Does anyone else notice that when you change the channel the screen is a really dark grey and never really black? If I turn the tv off it obvioucsly goes to black, but I thought it would get darker than it does and I have the brightness cranked way down.

I also would be interested to see what other owners of this DLP use as their settings when they play Xbox 360 games.

Justr had this set calibrated by Eliab at Avical and the only thing I can say is WOW!! This thing looks twice as good now that I have had it calibrated professionally. It was well worth the $450 I spent, HD-DVD and my Directv HD look absolutely stunning on this set.

Have been enjoying my calibrated TV now for a few weeks and I am still more impressed. The color saturation, detail are just jaw dropping. Also, I was told by Eliab that these Sammy DLP sets have very good tweakability and can get very close to ideal. He owns a Sammy DLP himself.

Anyone have any good Xbox 360 settings they wanna share?

I have this TV and am pretty happy so far. I'm getting the SSE but that might just be because I am sitting a bit close (it's in my bedroom in my fairly small college apartment right now). 360 looks great on it. I'm still playing around with the settings to get HD and SD to look as close to perfect as I can.

yeah i've noticed you need to sit a good 5-6 feet back to get the best visuals.

when you come up with some good settings, post them here - i don't think anyone's posted 360 settings yet.

I just turn on Game Mode for the 360 and let it rip. Looks good enough for me. I'm more concerned about getting the HD/SD picture on point...

Any other 4676 owners wanna chime in on their experiences?

How is the sound on this set? I am considering puchasing it to put in an armoire in my master bedroom. I don't feel a surround sound system is really necessary for my bedroom provided the TV's speakres are descent.

Couldn't tell you, I have the sound coming through an Onkyo receiver. It sounded fine in the store though for what its worth.

I was wondering if you could share your calibrated settings to see how they compare to the other two guys?

I find the sound from the sets speakers to be quite adequate. I live in a duplex and have a pretty small living room, so eventually I will probably get a 2:1 speaker set up. In the meantime I am pretty happy with the sound coming out of the set.
