Anyone pick up Ant Bully?

I was just wondering if anyone picked up Any Bully on HD DVD today? I am a sucker for animated movies in HD (plus I have 5 kids at home). I haven't seen any reviews so I am curious how it turned out. I know everyone is excited about Superman, but the kids need their HD!

Thanks

I saw it at Future Shop today.

My order shipped from Amazon yesterday, I expect to have it tomorrow or thursday.

Took a quick look at it today and the image is noise free and detailed. Looks fine on HD-DVD. Picked it up at Walmart for $30.00 bucks and yes it is a combo disc.

You forgot amazingly 3D looking, if you thought the Corpse Bride was hot, you seen nothing yet.

This was the only new title I didn't see out anywhere. Was hoping to pick it up today.

Saw this at Walmart tonight when I picked up SR. Notice Ant Bully has a TrueHD track as well. Should be good!

Thanks for the reply. For once, I do not mind it is a combo disc, and will pay $5 more for it. Reason being that my kids will want to watch it on their little portable dvd player, and so it is nice to have both versions.

Combo discs are perfect for kids movies.

If anyone gets any impressions or reviews, please share.

That's great for you, but bad for those who don't have children and DO mind paying extra for something they'll never use. Again, it's the lack of choice that makes combo discs suck so badly.

Not to get off topic too much, but as far as combos go, dpippel, what do you mean by lack of choice? When you say for people that don't have children, what person without children would buy Ant Bully?

I totally agree about movies like Animal House, Superman Returns, etc., as I don't need the DVD version, but for me personally, I would gladly pay $5 extra for a combo discs for all animated/children HD DVDs.

I got it from Amazon on Tuesday but I haven't looked at it yet. I got 8 HD DVDs from Amazon Tuesday so it will take a couple of days for me to take a look at all of them.

Wow, this is the first time I had so many HD DVDs from Amazon actually show up on the release day. Usually I get them on Wednesday but Amazon was 8 for 8 on Tuesday. I guess I'm counting Chronos so it's really 7 out of 7 since Chronos came out last week.

Got it as one of my 5 (American Werewolf and 3 Superman discs) from Amazon yesterday. Was a pleasant surprise as expected delivery date was 11/29.

A lot of people buy animation movies and don't have kids.
I plan on getting Over The Hedge and Cars.
I still haven't gotten Corpse Bride.
I plan on getting the Justice League series eventually.
Oh yeah, I probably won't be buying Ant Bully.

Are you saying that ONLY parents would buy a title like "The Ant Bully"? How can you know that? As for my lack of choice comment, I meant that those people who only want the HD-DVD cannot buy one. You can buy the combo or you can buy the SD DVD. There is never a high-def only option when a title is released as a combo, so consumers who want HD are forced to purchase the SD version as well (at a premium price) whether they want to or not.

I saw a few titles at Best Buy that I would of picked up, but combos... at $40!!! Are you kidding me? Is there a petition anywhere to stop combo discs? If not, there should be.

It's in my Netflix queue I would'nt buy it thou.

You can pick up the Ant Bully for $29.98 at Walmart!

At home waiting for me.

I just wanted to see some more animation in HD

I didn't mean to offend anyone buy saying that the majority of people buying Ant Bully would be parents with kids. I was just saying for customers like myself, the combo disc isn't a bad option (as long as it is no more than $5.00 more).

I would still like to hear any impressions that people have of this HD DVD. Still not a lot of animated movies on HD DVD (Polar Express) so I am curious how a really bright movie like this looks.

I haven't seen this film, and am just slowly downloading the apple hd trailer now, but it strikes me as more hand-drawn style animation vs CG, is that fair? If so, might not be as incredible.. still good looking but not cars.. which we don't get on HD-DVD until Disney comes over

Surprisingly, Ant Bully is the most expensive HD-DVD on buy.com (full $40, 30 after google checkout, which is still more than amazon's $28). I have a firm <$20 rule, which I can almost always get with google checkout if I buy 2 these days (in fact 2x$21s come out to $16 each as does a $21 + $30).

Are all combos this much higher? I've bought 7 so far, maybe none were combos...

I guess I will chime in and answer.

I bought the movie and glad I did. First off, I spent an hour looking for it all over Tampa, then went to the store to pick it up. Didn't notice it had TrueHD until I got home. So I was peasantly suprised before removing the packaging.

So, on top the movie.

First off, it was a pleasant suprise over corpse bride because it wasn't so dark and I HATE musicals. Then it was on to 3-D graphics and stuff I've never seen before out of my set or the player.

The soundtrack was a little lacking in bass but, I think that might have been my system with one of the speakers being set wrong.

Overall, I'd give it a 5 of of 5 stars on both soundtrack and picture quality, guess I can sell of my copy of corpse bride.

(Corpse and Phantom of the Opera now for sale)

Mine should arrive today from Amazon along with a bunch of other HD DVDs. I can't wait to check it out since I'm dying for more animation on HD DVD.

Edit: Just got it in the mail now. And although this is minor, didn't the press release say that the inital pressings of the HD DVD would have lenticular packaging? Because mine does not have it. PR can be found here.

AnthonyB, thanks for the impressions. I am so tempted to get this now. I just need to hold off until Christmas, as my wife will kill me if I buy anything now. I had a feeling it might look really good. Can't wait to see it.

What is lenticular packaging?

i agree with the above poster 5 stars for both pq and sound quality made superman returns look really bad compared to it even though its definatly a tier 2 movie (superman returns)

i think this might be better then anything out their or at least on the same level as the rest of the hd-dvds

Dangit!

I knew I should have picked it up last night when was at the 1st WalMart, but told myself to wait to see if got a better price at Target instead.

It gives the apperance of movement, or shows different images depending on how you hold it. Lot's of DVDs have it. Here is an example of one...

I watched it tonight. It definitely looks good on HD DVD. And sounds good too with DD TrueHD. I watched it on my A1 but I also tried it on my 360 add on. When in True HD with the 360 the audio was only stereo, DD+ put it back in 5.1. The A1 didn't have this problem with the TrueHD track. Did anyone else notice this with the 360 add on?

So how's the movie? Missed it in theatres and have been searching for the disc but can't find it locally....
