Olevia 337H Official Thread - Page 11

I'm new to this tread and had a question I hope someone can answer. When comparing the Olevia 337 and the 537 the major differences are tuners, and video processors. The tuner or lack their of is no big deal. My question is about the video processors. Whats the difference between the MTK and PixelWorks processors? Which one gives the best PQ? Is their a clear winner or am I just splitting hairs?
i would say splitting hairs. my experience with the pixelworks has been great and it can certainly deliver the same type of image as the MTK. the only reason i would be hesitant to re-buy the 337 is because of the tearing issues via VGA.

Also, know that the 537 has in-home warranty while the 337 does not. I believe that if you can get the 537 for a deal, then it would be a better buy that the 337.... otherwise, get the 337 since it can be had for much cheaper!

Hi,

I have a 337H and I'm trying to get the 'input' button to work on my Logitech Harmony 360.
Anyone that has this tv or the type of tv where you have 1 'source' button and needs to cycle through the inputs to get to the right one?

When i set my activities, 'watch tv' should set it to hdmi input, but it never does that. i trouble shoot the problem, but it still does not work the next time i try it. anyone have any success with this?

I think that is happening because the tv takes a while to warm up. Go to the Harmony web site and select Troubleshoot next to the tv under devices. Then select 'When I first turn the TV on, it doesn't go to the correct input'.

You will get to a page where it says 'My TV takes the following time to warm up'. I put in 7000 ms.

I'm running the 337H with HDMI direct from my Comcast box. When I hit display, it only ever says 480P HD. Shouldn't I be seeing 720P or 1080i results on HD channels through HDMI? Am I missing a setting?

I have yet to hook up my DVD player through composite to see what the menu displays.

Anyone else have the Motorola/Comcast/HD-HDMI box? Is there a setting I'm missing on the box?

TIA

Hey guys,

I am interested in picking up this TV. I noticed that the 337H does not have audio optical out, while the 237, 437, and 537 do.

I don't know much about this stuff -- but does this mean that this set is not capable of surround sound? Isn't optical out required to hook the 337 up to an audio receiver, or am I missing something?

Thanks.

You need digital output but it doesn't have to be from the tv. You hook up the digital out from your source to the receiver.

Press Menu after powering off the Motorola box.... it should pop up settings, there change it to 720p or 1080i.

Much appreciated. That was the ticket. Couldn't get that damn menu up.

See some of the threads on here about "source". the delay idea may help but since you can't go DIRECTLY to a source, it will always be dependent on where you were last..for example if you were on "vga" last and hit source button twice you may end up on component. But if you were on hdmi last and hit the source button twice you may end up on s-video.

Your only hope is to just use one source, (component,or hdmi, etc) and get some sort of controllable box, such as a hdmi remote controlled switch box. or get an expensive receiver like the harmon kardon avr625.

Or he could stick with the Harmony remote which is designed to take this into account.

I have had this set for less than 2 weeks, at first everything seemed great. Now I have "light leak"(olevia tech support) on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and it's very annoying. I am no video expert but it really is bothering me to watch this tv now. Tech support says light leak is normal and will not replace my set. Is there anything I can do to get this set replaced.

depending on where you got it from, you could return it and get a new one.

Anyone notice a difference with an upconverting DVD player on the 337H or is the scaler onboard good enough? Thinking about a Sony 75H for about $100, but if it's going to make a noticeable change, I'll rethink it.

The Olevia is not good at upscaling. A very popular upscaling player is the Oppo. I have one (the 970) and it made a significant difference.

Agreed, the deinterlacer in the TV is tolerable at best. I run our Oppo 970 DVD player for 480i over HDMI and the TV does a lot worse than the Oppo 970 (which I personally am not that impressed with for deinterlacing - it's better than the LCD but not nearly as good as a Faroudja player).

I'd recommend investing in the Oppo 971 or one of the other Faroudja DVD players.

Great responses. Thanks. I'll check out the Oppo.

What are the options in Mode/Input menu doing? Does it change picture settings or does it change the way the input is accepted? The manual states: "To select the video input source with varied qualities" On my HTPC connected via HDMI I get gray blacks with the "High Def TV" and normal blacks with "Standard Def TV".

Thanks for any help,

Mariusz
i dont use hdmi, but from what i hear the factory settings in high-def are incredibly screwy. i'd suggest playing around with that if you have gray blacks.

Anyone have issues with XBOX 360 using COMPONENT for this set/monitor? Seems like everyone and their mother is using VGA. Also, any experts anticipate problems with the xbox 360 elite's HDMI hookup with the 337h? Thanks.

No issues with component & xbox360.

Anybody know how to get the base off this thing? I've unscrewed the screws in the back of the base but it still isn't coming off.

Edit: never mind. It took more unscrewing and something thin and long to pull the screws out of the holes with. Argh.

I'm hearing a lot about overscan and xbox 360 with certain TVs. Anyone experience this with the 337h via component or any other type of connection? Or does the image of the 360 fit perfectly? Thanks again!

sync, how does the logitech know how to deal with changing to a certain source? Unless you are certain you know what the current source you are on? I would like to know more about this? Are you saying it would still go to the right source even if someone had changed the source on the tv manually? Does it read it some how? Since there is no direct to source I don't see how it can be guaranteed to be accurate. IF it is , maybe ill sell my universal mx800 and get one..

The Harmony can't know if someone changes the input using a method other than the Harmony remote. But all the Harmony remotes keep track of what state the input or power is in for those devices that don't have discrete codes. Only a few top of the line URC remotes have that ability.

Didn't read all of the thread but are the speakers on the bottom unmountable?

Have a question about the settings for the different inputs. Can you make adjustments for each input? Meaning if you change the setting does it effect each input? I couldn't tell if each input had its own settings or the settings were for everything

Each input has its own settings.

As far as I know, they are not removable but they can be turned off via the OSD.
