That AdamEve.com A2 half off deal...

Thread Starter
I know this thread is probably pushing it, and will ultimately be closed, but I had no where else to ask. Anyway, has anyone who tried to order the A2 at that huge mistake of a discount gotten an email about the order being canceled? My order status still indicates the reduced price and estimated ship date. Did you call them to cancel it, or what?
They cancelled them all, as far as I know. I got an email stating that the order was cancelled.

Check the order via the website. I never got an official cancellation, just an email stating they wouldn't be able to honor it. But, as I stated, my order is still there.

edit: all appears well...

I thought you guys were getting some porn disc or something as a consolation prize, no?
They did offer, I didn't bother but actually HAVE started receiving VERY non-discrete junk mail with nudie photos on the envelopes in the mail even though when I placed my order I checked a box that would supposedly prevent the mailings!
I am really trying hard not to laugh. I know it sucks but you guys had to know that that was too good to be true. You also had to know that they were going to porn spam you to death and sell your info to lots of other shady characters. So you didn't get the HD-DVD deal AND you get porn spamed. A&E really shafted you guys. Sorry. Live and learn I guess.
I have received zero spam from the site and I ordered the player.
Not spam, mail. Physical mail in the mailbox.
Spam I couldn't give a rat's ass about. Mail with nude girls on the envelopes...
Maxx, you are correct. The mail thing, funny, the CC charge, not funny.

AdamEve, you screwed up once, we maybe whined like little brats when the deal was "cancelled" but we figured "oh well"..., now you are heading into fraud territory. CC fraud territory. I am pissed. If I get the player for the original price now, fine, if not, this company is pulling a fast one and had better straighten this out ASAP.

Balls.... (but, maybe we should have expected this. Reputable company my Irish Ass...)

You realize a hold is not the same as a charge?

When merchants do an auth operation, the funds are automatically held for a certain time period by the credit card processor. The time the funds are held are dependent on the industry of the vendor. Same thing happens when you reserve a hotel room.

The hold on the funds expires on its own if the transaction does not become a charged transaction.

I also realize that when the order was cancelled the "hold" should have been cancelled as well since it's been weeks now, no? Our orders apparently are also still listed as being valid at the site.
Mine might just be being "held", other members said that there card was actually charged even though AandE promised they wouldn't charge until the item was shipped.

My online Discover account shows no pending charges. Still waiting for my "free" gift.

Merchants have no ability to cancel the hold placed on your account. It will expire after 5-10 business days depending on which credit card bank you are using. It should not however, take weeks unless the merchant re-verifies and thus places a new hold on the account.

As the previous poster mentioned there is no "unhold" operation. There actually isn't a "hold" operation. It is part of the "auth" operation automatically done on the back end by the bank/clearinghouse.

A charge is something that you simply dispute, call up the merchant, and it'll get resolved either by the merchant or by your credit card company reversing the charge. However in this case there is no charge to reverse. Wait it out and the hold should expire on its own with no action from anybody, you or the merchant.

You are not charged interest nor is any money due from a hold. It just results in a reduction of credit available. It is how the credit card business has worked for ages. The reduction in credit available could become an inconvenience depending on the specifics, but that is a consideration that needs to be made whenever ordering online a preorder item, regardless of vendor, because the auth operation will reserve the credit for a period of time.

In some ways if credit available is the issue, you could be better off if they actually charged you, because then there is an operation the merchant can do to put the funds back. There is no "unhold" operation, and the period the funds should be held is not specified by the merchant. They have *no* control over the hold once they do the auth. On the other hand, they have control over a charge and can refund the funds. That could potentially be quicker than the expiration of the hold.

I guess they also lied about the free Jenna Jameson dvd they promised for compensation. I sure hell haven't received it yet.

Today, I received an e-mail invoice showing $0.00 for the pr0n movie.

I wish this was over more than anybody and that I had read this thread earlier in the day so I could have made sure the orders show cancelled on our site. I've e-mailed our site manager to see if he can make it happen, but I'm not sure he is going to be able to locate these orders. I guarantee it will be done Monday morning.

All the orders have been cancelled. NOBODY was ever charged a single dollar, EVER, for any player. Unfortunately, the above posters are right, we aren't able to control when banks release pre-authorizations on accounts.

The Jenna disks were sent Wednesday and Thursday.

You should not have received mailings. I was told every name was suppressed and deleted from our database. I can't figure out what postal mailing you received. There has never been a nude picture on the cover of any of our mailings. However, getting anything from us is unacceptable.

I know repeated apologies sound stupid, but it is all I can offer.

I am truly sorry for the hassles you are experiencing.

If anybody has any further problems, and I sure hope not, e-mail me directly jlaures@pheinc.com and I will get them fixed as soon as possible.

jlaures:

Thanks again for posting here.

I really hope that this incident does not deter you or your company from supporting the HD DVD format. AFAIK your company is a very significant player in your industry and it would be quite helpful to HD DVD adoption to have A&E's support.

btw - I believe you mentioned about a month ago that A&E would release HD DVD content soon - is that still on schedule?

Yesterday I got a battery operated dildo via ups from A&E ... don't have any use for it except maybe it will work to mix pancake batter or something. I guess I could give it as a gift if I'm careful who I give it to. lol

Use your head. It is called experimentation!

I also received junk mail via my mailbox. Really not to happy about that. I think this was a marketing idea from them. I think they should have to honor the deal. They say it was an accident, but I think they had more in mind. I have never been to the site until the slip up they had. Now I have been to there site numerous times to check on my order. It was nothing short of free advertising for them.
The mailing I received said something like "Claim your free DVDs!" or something, had a picture of a girl's head on the front and a picture of 3 clearly porno DVDs on the back of the envelope. On the cover of one of the DVDs are two nude girls...

This porno HD DVD 1/2 off price of a life time purhcase thing is a classic here at AVS.

I have been here long enough to have seen some classics but this is one we'll talk about for years..... a 1/2 price, to good to be true deal from a porn site to get a HD DVD player!!!

I imagine those that bought the phantom player were so horny for the savings that they whipped out there credit cards faster than a 2 bit whore tears her cloths off!

You guys are the best!
That's why I buy all my porn at gamelink. They don't send you pornographic junk mail. I feel bad for all those having to try and explain to their wives or get the mail before their children.

And a free Jenna DVD? Jenna was popular back when The Tommy and Pamela video was big. She's so yesterdays porn star.

I realize it's a bit a-holish of me to say so, but this whole thing is quite hilarious. I really do feel bad for anyone who is having their credit messed with, but this PORN IN THE MAILBOX and FREE JENNA DVD stuff is freakin' hilarious. I can hardly believe it it's so awesome.
