My 2 cents. How about representing the movie and disc size in MB or GB instead of bytes ?

M&C BD still has 5.7 GB space left. FOX could have ported the main extras from the Collector's Edition. Shame on them.

PowerDVD for example used to report New Line titles as 5.1 but it is now correctly reporting 7.1 in the latest versions.

That's good news that it got the TrueHD track count correct - wasn't completely sure about that.

For the DTS-MA (and DTS-HD Hi-Res), as far as I know none of the open source or free utilities have figured out the headers for these yet and I have had little success reverse engineering them myself. Hopefully someone will figure this out and publish the results in the near future.

I am under the assumption that the PQ on the MPEG-2 encoded Blu-ray will be similar to or better than the AVC encoded HD DVD due to the high bit rate trend on BD adopted by Paramount. Please clarify if I am wrong.

Shooter is high bitrate MPEG2 on a BD50.

World Trade Center
looks much better on BD, and the MPEG2 bitrates stay in the 30+Mbps for most of the feature.

+1. Totally agree that WTC BD looked much better and sharper than the HD DVD and expecting Shooter and Black Rain to be on similar lines.

True but WTC was VC-1 vs MPEG2, while this is AVC vs MPEG2. If someone has the BD version of Shooter I would be more than glad to compare specs/screenshots. However bad news, all of the new Paramount titles in my queue are very long wait, so I think that they didn't get any copies. I was able to get National Treasure 2, no problem.

I also have Black Rain on HD DVD and will do the same for specs and screen shots.

Thanks mate. I have pre-ordered Shooter, Next, Face/Off, Black Rain, Disturbia, Blades of Blory & Babel on Blu-ray but they are reported to be out-of-stock. I was pretty impressed by WTC on Blu-ray than HD DVD.

one question, is I ROBOT (UK version) same DTS HD MA 5.1 48kHz/24bit ?
what bitrate I should find ?

is it similair as with DolbyTrueHD where average most of the time over 3,3.5 mbit is 24bit, is something like that with DTS HD MA ?

I think biggiest I saw in uk I robot 5.8mbit, mostly over 3 or 4 mbit...

BDInfo v.0.2.0 had some trouble with its initial scan of Narnia, but I think I found the problem and am currently testing a new build against other discs. This bug doesn't have any effect on the bitrate data collected, but rather manifests itself as "???" codec displays on the initial disc scan. Disney sure likes to throw out funky curveballs in their MPLS playlist files...

I got an average bitrate of ~4400 kbps for the DTS-MA track on I, Robot (US), so it sounds as if it may indeed have the same track.

As to determining whether it's 16-bit or 24-bit is a tricky question. Every Master Audio track I've examined has reported itself as 24-bit (through the core DTS track). However, this header field is described as the bit depth of the source LPCM track used to create the DTS-MA track and doesn't rule out the possibility that the headers are lying or that some Master Audio tracks aren't actually 16-bit downconverts of a 24-bit source LPCM.

From my scans, there seem to be roughly two classes of DTS-MA 5.1 tracks: those that fall into a bitrate range of ~4000-4500 kbps (ex. I, Robot) and those that fall into a bitrate range of ~2500-3000 kbps (ex. Die Hard 1-3, Mr. Brooks). I am beginning to suspect that titles in the latter group are actually 16-bit, but at the moment I don't have a good way to verify this since none of the free and open source tools available can properly decode DTS-MA into an LPCM.

FYI: I posted a new version of BDInfo v.0.2.1 which contains only a single minor change that will hopefully help with correctly determining the contents of certain Disney discs.

It works with Narnia and doesn't screw up Ratatouille (which motivated the initial change in v.0.2.0) and has worked fine with a bunch of other discs in my collection, so hopefully the fix will extend to other problematic titles such as National Treasure 2.

That is shockingly low and I'm not sure if that title is a real strong candidate for a double-dip down the line on blu-ray. We could be stuck with that encode for years. Isn't it already close to 2 years old already?

I simply must post one more to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Here is a fascinating case of night and day - in this case, the only word to describe the video and audio of this disc is spectacular.
Code:
Dolby TrueHD (lossless compression) 24-bit/48kHz

                                                                                                                Total Video
Title Codec Length Movie Size Disc Size Bitrate Bitrate Main Audio Track Secondary Audio Track
----- ------ ------- -------------- -------------- ------- ------- ------------------ ---------------------
Saawariya AVC 2:17:47 37,214,201,856 40,406,012,857 36.01 27.66 *Dolby TrueHD 5.1 5377Kbps (48kHz/24-bit) DD AC3 5.1 640Kbps (English Dub)
* NOTE: TrueHD track is Hindi original audio, while English dub (don't bother) is listed as secondary.

EDIT: These are the only two audio tracks available on disc, although there is a veritable cornucopia of subtitle choices.

Another 16bit TrueHD track from Sony. It is profile 1.1 though.

So there is essentially 23GB of unused space on the disc? 12Mbps is pretty cool
