Looks like a new site to me with most titles listed at 30% off. Anyone here bought from them yet?
no, but prices are good. ill wait for someone else to test them first though
post #3 of 68
Actually Amazon has a lot to for resonable prices, plus you get 10% off movies for a year if you buy 3 HD-DVD movies right now

WARNING !! This site might well be a possible scam !

According to datas returned by Internic regarding the domain hddvdworld, here is what we got :

Status: clientRenewProhibited
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Expiration Date: 01-dec-2006

Seems the domain has expired recently and the owner hasn't paid yet to keep it alive (which explains the Renew/Update/Transfer/Delete status being set to "prohibited" mode)

I'm so afraid this domain will cease to respond soon and all the people who tried to order through this site will get crooked.
So beware !

"I'm the president and founder of the company. We've been in business over 8 years and rank as the second largest online dvd retailer in the world. We supply most of the other DVD stores and are also the exclusive supplier of Region 1 DVD's to Amazon.co.uk so we can rest assured you'll get your item.

This new site is designed solely at the high def disc formats to give them the attention other sites have not given them."

Did anybody try calling the phone number on the web site? (I didn't). It's a Long Island address.

The prices seem the same as Amazon's, or worse.

I do like this statement though.

That is not the case, it was simply an issue with our rep. at Godaddy processing our renewal request in time. As you can see the site is still active, and growing in the number of titles every day.

Yes, I'm the owner as well as the president for the company. We're legit, there is no doubt about that. We've been an online DVD retailer for nearly 9 years now along with supplying many of the other large online retailers. If you have any other questions please let me know.

There are some titles listed that have been put on permanent hold, specifically the BCI titles, like Night of the Werewolf. Kind of silly to list nonexistent titles.

If you contact them I am sure they will be removed or listed as such "Release date TBD" thus if you ordered it you are putting a place holder for a future release that has no official release date BUT at one did or was going to.....

Edit if you take a look at those titles on the info page it says release date TBD

BCI has not canceled there titles, they just haven't released them yet for whatever reason. We handle the BCI titles just like any delayed major studio titles on either format, unless they are officially canceled by the studio they will state Release Date TBA. All BCI titles still have (Pre-Order) in their title as well which shows they are Pre-Orders. By placing an order you claim a copy of the pre-order amount we have with the studio, you are not charged until the item ships.

It's possible BCI is holding out on releasing their titles now to see how the format war will play out now.

Yea, its possible. I asked Amir about them, but he never told me what was up. Its been months. I suspect they may never see the light of day.

I just placed an order for the new NIN HD-DVD coming out. Figured I'd give the site a try and see how their service is.
Is there a Google Checkout option?
Be careful. Just did a quick search on Verizon's website to see where they are located (reverse phone lookup) and found 4 reviews of them there - 3 were negative.
Yes there is a google checkout option

Mike this site has a dedicated thread over at anotehr forum and out of all the posts there has only been a few negative responses and those have to do with the shipper delaying the package once they have it in thier posession.

The HD-DVD version of Nine Inch Nails came in today. We can't ship them until Friday due to street date requirements, but you can know that it will be on it's way to you Friday.

Negative reviews are almost always associated with people selecting Media Mail and expecting Priority Mail delivery times. When the item does not arrive as fast as they expected they immeadiately write a negative review and blame the store. We have since taken away Media Mail as a shipping option due to the fact it produced so many uncalled for negative reviews. This makes the shipping charge more, but if that keeps people from writing negative reviews that is fine by us.

There's your problem. Don't use GoDaddy. Network Solutions is the only domain registrar I trust.

We're working on having DVD World Direct stores that you can go to across the country within the next 5 years, with the first one being on Long Island in 2008. Right now we only ship orders, we don't offer pick up.

We originally used Network Solutions and found them to be a very hard company to deal with, along with being highly overpriced. So we switched to GoDaddy and are very happy with the service they provide. Every company has a hiccup or two, and Godaddy's pluses out weigh any negatives. Everyone likes different things though, which is why so many companies can exist that do the same thing.

No problem. The only reason I don't trust a lot of the lower priced registrar's is because sometimes you are only sub-leasing the domains. They don't tell you this, and if someone comes along willing to pay the registrar for that domain they will sell it out from under you by prohibiting renewal.

I'll check out your site though. Amazon has good prices but their shipping and service sucks. I prefer DVD Empire because of their quick shipping and excellent service but some of their prices are no bargain.

You don't have any Alien D-Theater lying around do you? Probably not.
