Release date for "Pulse"?

Does anybody know the actual release date for "Pulse"? I've seen three different dates, and I haven't seen it listed for pre-order anywhere. Even more...the press release link for it (and, "Lucky Number Sleven"), over at High-Def Digest, are now dead links.

Pulse, as in Pink Floyd?

Nope, I'm guessing Pulse as in the Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) horror movie.

Mmmm... HD Kristen Bell.

No idea on the release tho i've heard January.

January 19th is the last date I've heard... along with "Lucky Number Slevin" and "Clerks II".

So was Pulse any good? I wanted to see it in theaters, but didn't get a chance to.

Well, the Japanese original film Pulse is remade from, Kairo, is honestly a modern classic of Japanese Horror cinema. It uses the appealing young adult/teen aesthetic, but it's also obviously frightening and quietly unsettling to think about after it's over. It's like Kurosawa's homage to the orginal Dawn of the Dead...just without zombies.

So the U.S. remake falls short, but also falls short of being particularly good, so it's really just convoluted, servicable teeny horror hokum with potent ideas that it doesn't use effectively. The Japanese original is excellent on all counts though.

Just look at the IMDB pages for Kairo (6.7, 2,043 votes) and Pulse (3.7, 2,212 votes).

Here's the original's website, watch the trailer

Interestingly enough, Kairo is distributed by Magnolia Entertainment, so maybe we'll see a HD DVD and Blu-ray release of the film. I'd freak if it did.

Pulse releases 12/5/2006 according to my Best Buy and Circuit City sales flyers from the Sunday paper today. However, I'm not sure if it is the remake or the Japanese version. You can check BB & CC websites to confirm. Disregard this as I think its the SD DVD version being released.

Thats too bad. From the previews the Pulse looked pretty decent, but I guess I'll pass.

That's the SD DVD. The Pulse will be released on HD DVD next month.

I don't really expect the movie to be all that great, but Kristen Bell in HD along with wanting to buy SOMETHING from Weinstein Company makes this a purchase.

If you wanna buy SOMETHING from Weinstein Co that is actually good, get Clerks II. I also heard that The Matador is also good.

I've dropped them a note about releasing it, in 5.1 this time. The R1 disc lost a lot of points for being in 2.0 only, so much of the film rests on the excellent sound design in addition to Kurosawa's visuals.

The remake? Bah

Yeah, but none of them have Kristen Bell in it!

Actually, I may buy "Clerks II"... I haven't made up my mind yet...

~Alan<~~~~~~~Who has a borrowed "Clerks II" on SD DVD that he can watch...

I have the SD version of the film and it looke terrific upscaled through the A-1. It must have been shot with a blue filter ala underworld. That one Veronica Mars is really hot. She has this airbrushed look to her the entire movie. Movie was ok.

Pink Floyd Pulse was shot on 480i SD video. Never gonna look better than it does now...
