Happy I didn't do basement HT

Hi guys,

The picture says it all. Basement flooded up to two levels on the stair. That means 40 cm deep water all over. Basement currently was just for storage of some tools and building material. Not sure about the extent of the damage currently but will investigate tomorrow. Pumps are running now to remove the water.

Lucky for me I had decided to build my HT on the main level. HT room is waiting for me, double walls are ready but I'll like to add a second layer of drywall plus the green glue. But my builder went bankrupt and I lost a lot of money. I still have a lot of problems to resolve within the house which the builder left half done. Not sure when I will have a functional HT.

Fun thing happen in life, NOT.....

As we like to say here in the states, "that really sucks!" What was the cause of the flooding? Malfunctioning pump or just too much rain?

Sorry to hear about your flood.... but take a smile out of it if you can.... I lost it all in a fire several year ago.

I am sure Berkline will come out with a new HT boat for just such a situation! :)

Combination of things.

1. Builder terminating all the drainage tubes in the wrong location. Drainage not properly constructed.
2. Sump pit is not at the lowest level which means there is a lot of water filling up next to the basement (I have part basement and part crawlspace) and before the pump kicks in we already have to much water and it start leaking into the basement.
3. Not good workmanship in the build leaving small cracks on the floor where water seeps in.
4. No gutters installed which means all the water falls right next to the foundation. And due to the large size of the house its a very large quantity even with small rainfall.
5. Builder did not initially install sump pump!

It rained many time before and I've slowly fixed some problems. Prior rains have only resulted in very small infiltration of water.

The primary reason things went bad. Here it comes. My own fault. I was doing some drilling downstairs to put more electrical outlets in. I unplugged the one and only working outlet for the basement to plug in my powerdrill. And yes, I forgot to plug the sump pump back in again :)

Yes I still try to keep a smiley face since there are far worse things in life that could go wrong. I still consider myself lucky having a family of three small kids that give you plenty of enjoyment everyday.

Cheers,
