Agreed. I have seen it both in BD, and in upconverted SD on my A2. Looks fantastic on the A2. I played it in my 981, too. I think it looks better (no 981 macroblocking) on the A2. It did look best in BD though. But not enough to run upstairs & hang myself in the shower
Most/all recent releases, even in SD, have been mastered so well, you are really only talking about getting the last 5-10% or so, of PQ by viewing in HD. That, and the better performance with TrueHD, DD+, etc. Yes, absolutely... there is a difference, and if the title is available in both HD and SD... I'd get the HD flavor every day.
I'm planning on viewing POTO tonight in both SD & HD. I really want to hear the difference in audio. The film quality is pretty poor, so I think this is one of those titles that (for PQ) is a who-cares. But, the soundtrack is supposed to be awesome in TrueHD. I want to compare it to the DD track in the SD format. I'll let ya know my thoughts.Well, I was disappointed in POTO... The overall quality sucks just as bad in HD as in SD. Whoever did post-production on ths film should be fired. The sound mix was awful, both in TrueHD and in DD. Levels were all over the map, the mix was just sad. and dynamics were absymal. I would have hoped that they might have at least fixed the lip-sync issues. They are the worst I have ever seen in a film!!! And no... it is not my system. It is this film.
On a realted note... I stayed up to watch Batman Returns. Excellent HD example.
So far, my experience has been that the A2 does a very good job of u/c SD, and I'm not all that concerned about certain films not being format available. I do wish Casino Royale was in HD, though .
