if you just wanna make argumentative or negative statements about BD, then please save your opinion for another topic, don't air it here please.

now, putting aside which is the better format, who's winning the war, etc., is there a movie that may actually push get you to but a BD player? and what is it?

for me it would definitely be Finding Nemo. of course, it would have to be a really good improvement over the SD version.

No single movie would cause me to get a BD player.

No movie made me buy my PS3,but its a good perk to get a BR player with it.

The Bond Series if the encodes are done properly and have a Dolby True-HD or DTS-HDMA Soundtrack! Then I will buy the first BR Player with HDMI 1.3 or analog outs that support the new Audio Formats!

ps3 doesn't count. i'm talkin bout just a stand alone player.

is no one understanding my question?

what movie do you love so much that it would make you buy a BD player if the movie were a BD exclusive?

Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
Casino Royale
Godzilla (any of them)
Transformers

No movie. A $500 player that worked would do it (and not a PS3).

I'm sure people are understanding your question. However, for most people, this question is too simplistic for an easy answer. I doubt there are many people for whom a single movie disc will be justification enough to drop a grand on a player. For most people, myself included, it isn't one single movie, or even one single thing, that will lead to the adoption of not just a single new piece of gear, but the commitment to a new format and making that format work within a system that may very well require additional expense to get the most out of that new format.

I bought a BD player when it became obvious that at least two major studios would not be publishing on HD DVD (my first and preferred HD format) in the very near future. That is a lot of movies and I am first and foremost a movie collector. While I fully expect to see some currently BD-exclusive studio support to go to HD DVD, even if a single major studio holds out for even a year, that is a full year of HD movie releases I am not willing to wait for.

So, to NOT answer your question, no there is not a single movie that would make me buy a BD player. But I did buy one.

This is a weird question to answer!!! You do not want people to boicot your Post but still the answer is very simple ....Who is going to buy a $1000 player just to see a single Movie...
I think this should be the Title of this forum!! The Post itself is a to call for troubles.

I got a ps3 for gaming, the blu ray side of it. is indeed a perk.

If I had to pick a few movies that are already released, They would definately be the Directors Cut of Kingdom of Heaven and X-men 3
post #17 of 248
Nothing.
If I won't pay $500 for HD player then I'm not paying $1000 for a BR player.

Star Wars. If they put that in HD, I'd sell my first born to the CEO of Sony to see it.

Well, I like documentaries, so I suppose the magic bullet for me might be something like a BD release of "The AVS Guide to Finding the Best Deal on an HD-DVD Player"

No movie or collection of movies would get me to buy BD. Don't want the extra DRM, don't like the lack of combo discs.

Ditto. Just like no single movied pushed me to buy my XA1. It was the quality of the product and the overall collection of released & upcoming movies that pushed me to HD DVD. I don't see that product quality and collection of released & upcoming movies making me consider Blu-Ray in the slightest.

When I see a BD release that interests me, I usually Netflix the standard DVD. Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2 upconvert very nicely. Fox's X-Men 3 PQ was so completely crappy I didn't make it through the movie. I might have to break down and go to the cinema & watch Fox & Columbia releases.

The Godfather Saga

If the Bond series was fully remastered to be a 10/10 PQ, ALL of Pixars movies were available, The Pirates Trilogy.

I would then buy a PS3 to play the movies.

I want the most bang for my buck, so for HD DVD, I bought a 360 adn HD DVD drive. For BR, I would go the PS3 route.

No movie.
A "movie" does not make up my mind for me!

This thread would be less confrontational in the HD Media Software Forum.
Did the OP start a "What movie would push you to buy a HD DVD player?", in the BD Software Forum?
If you did, tell us which "movie" will switch Blu Bloods to HD DVD and will get it released right away!!!
If the OP did not post a like thread in the BD section of this great site, why not?

MGM movies:
All the bond movies
Rocky movies
A good version of the fifth element...

But it would have to be atleast 10 must have movies
post #28 of 248
I have about 65 HD DVDs I want to watch... after that I can look at this question. Right now no one movie is going to cause me to buy a whole other platform.

hahaha

I would like to see the LOTR and Starwars sets before it would sway me into spending a fortune (for me).

If there is going to be a Blu-Ray drive for $300 or less I will probably buy it and use it with my new computer arriving next week. Also got HD-DVD addon arriving around that time.
Star Wars would be great!
LOTR is coming to HD-DVD, at least in Europe
