Probably

Maybe

I am hoping someone has the guts (balls) to hook up with Brightside and give us a 1080p pj with a nice 100k to 1 on/off.
I just hope there is an affordable short throw 1080p DLP.
"Sxrd response to NEW D-ila?"

Let's dream big - pre-emptive DILA response to SXRD response to DILA; RS2 (maybe RS10?) with 2X the brightness of the RS1.
It will be very interesting to see what Sony's answer is to the RS1. Not sure if we will find this out at CES or not...
I suspect that if there is any big news from Sony at CES, as far as front projection is concerned, it will center around the Ruby replacement, aka "Diamond"...
Which of the big boys have still to introduce 1080 DLP, Mitsubishi, InFocus, etc... They must be likely to have something at CES, and this late in the game they might include DynamicBlack, and Mitsubishi has been using new color weels etc. in their RPTV´s and getting very good reviews.

Hasn´t Sony always started using new chips in their RPTV´s, and then later on in FP. Maybe they´ll make a projector with a brighter Xenon lamp etc.. but aren´t new chips highly unlikely?

It´ll be interesting to see if lasers and LED are something too wait for, or if it´s still years away.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for the industry to move on beyond DI and take the next step.
SEOS has just launched a new 4-panel projector: dual lamp, 2048x1536 and 500000:1 . It is called 2015HC.

Companies which should show 1080p dlp
Infocus
Samsung

Infocus could gain from offering a bright 1080p projector.
Samsung can continue on their road to correct image perfection with Joe Kane.

I´m curious why InFocus are considered so bright. Most of their models are stated to have 800 lumens in normal mode. But if a JVC is 700 it´s dim ?? Can someone explain this.
b/c Infocus actually delivers what they publish .. if not more (and calibrated quite good out of the box)
Why would they quote lumens numbers LESS than what it actually has, that doesn´t make any sense. I´m not saying your wrong, but from the reviews I´ve read I do know their contrast numbers are not close to the actual ones.

But doesn´t JVC also have a reputation of quoting accurate numbers, and isn´t the Ruby 700 and something lumens at it´s brigthest... and I´ve never ever heard of anyone talkinga bout these as bright projectors.
Nobody quotes accurately because it depends on many factors. Not just plugging it in.

Lumens should be reported in the configuration it leaves the factory at.

BTW I will be reporting from CES

In some review measurements, real world lumens have actually exceeded the JVC specs as well for the 2K ( and maybe the 10K as well?).

Dear Ohlson,

I must have missed the report on this SEOS, can you elaborate more? what technology? LCD? LCOS? what about the price range and lumen spec?

Thanks.

SEOS first 4-panel lcos projector is called Zorro 1410 and is specified as brighter than crt. This new model uses two lamps for uptime and perhaps also for increased brightness. They say they use Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS) panels and their proprietary rgbk light engine.

TzungILin,

Will Optoma have a booth at CES in January ? Any hints on new projectors? A lower cost 1080p DLP in the vein of the HD72 or HD70 is would be huge. Many are waiting for such a projector I am sure. Will Optoma be the first to bring 1080p DLP affordable front projection to the masses?

Ohlson,

Thanks for the info, I searched the web, and found their web site. Interesting claims, but has anyone see real demo of it? I thought I remember seeing one CA company claiming patent on the fourth panel thing. But this SEOS looks more decent with real implementation. Look forward to seeing their demo. But normally UK companies seldom attend CES.

This would be the perfect per-pixel light gating method that, if done right, will be much better than auto IRIS.

Stopdog,

Yes, Optoma has a 50'x50' booth at CES, usually in South hall, floor 1, in the same region of home theater manufactures, like Runco, Marantz, Stewart, ...

We will demonstrate several new projectors at CES, but not the one that you are hinting at. Come and find out!

I hope that a small company will take a chance on this and one up the big guys. Cinetron and Canon are two companies that come to mind. A year ago Cinetron was considered a potential competitor of the Ruby and now they are nowhere to be seen.

Samsung should have one, if Joe has anything to say about it. I know he was pushing for one at Cedia.

I think you may be thinking about Brightside. We discussed it in a thread recently. This does look like it holds a lot of promise. Darinp, Chris and some others have seen the flat panel implementation. According to them, it is the best display out there.

Don't forget Prism Inc. discussed in this thread

Will I have to wait until CES 2008 for a laser projector announcement?

I agree it would be cool if Canon teamed up with Brightside for a front projector loaded with lumen and contrast.
There likely won't be a lot of new stuff. Generally CES isn't a big show for the HT market. At least from a standpoint of new gear. Usually the only time new stuff is shown is when a manufacturer missed the Cedia cutoff.

Are you thinking then we will not hear from Sony on what their answer may be to the RS1? Too bad. I am so curious to know, as I do know they won't be taking this lying down. In the meantime I'll be enjoying the RS1
post #24 of 75
Anything is possible, but I sort of doubt it considering the short notice.
I was at Optoma today and was told Optoma may announce at CES a new version of the HD-81 which will be designed for larger screens. I think he said up to 200 inches. He said it may have 2000 lumens but he was not very exact in his comments. He said it was for smaller commercial applications not for personal Home Theaters (whatever that means?).

Anyway thought I would pass this little info along.

A few people indicated n the Infocus Is Dead Thread that they had info that Inf would announce their 1080P pj.
Also rumors that Samsung/Joe Kane would show a 1080p pj to be delivered in the late summer/fall.

I doubt Sony would have a direct answer to the RS1 already. I mean, the RS1 isn't even released yet!

Where is the buzz for these new Optoma projectors? I assume they will be 1080p, not too many would be interested in another 720p I would think. Unfortuneately TzungILin I can't make it this year, but it was a real pleasure to meet you and the rest of the Optoma crew last year. Can't wait to hear more about your new projectors!

Stopdog,

I'll be there for the CES, how can I miss out the consumer event of the year?!

If you will be there, come look for me. (although I won't be around the booth all the time, many meetings to catch)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all the AVS members!
