WinTV-HD: any news on when recording will be available??

Seems like the buzz on the WinTV-HD card has died down. I understand the cards are due to ship in less than 2 weeks. Is there any word when recording capability might be added?

Or will HiPix be the only game in town for a while??

Need to make my choice before Xmas, and have been delaying to see what is really going on...

I believe in beta hardware! I bought a beta radeon ( http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif) which i'm completely happy with, I bought a beta cpu, the athlon, and I'm using beta software to run it (windows http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif ...the best is yet to come.... (this mean please check back for updates and patches)

"With ANY preproduction order you're buying promises!"

Not really. It is only a waiting list and nobody has been charged for the HiPix card. Infact, I will conduct QA testing of the first production cards and if they don't live up to my standards the only shipment will be back to Telemann.

"2)have incomplete beta software... beta testers have described the recording functions of BOTH cards as "mostly works, but the user interface is horrible"

Where did you see posted that the WinTV-HD card has beta capture software? I've not seen it posted in this forum.

Yeah, Cliff, I also have seen nothing about recording software, beta or otherwise, for the WinTV-HD. I was just hoping that someone from Hauppauge would chime in with an update of when such beta software might come available. I do know that Hauppauge in a post several weeks ago said that recording would be added sometime, but never said anything else about it.

Since recording is the ONLY real reason to buy a PC based HD card, it seems that HiPix will have the spot light to itself.

Also, Cliff, I am really pleased with the quality focus for your company. I guess that is why you have such a good reputation on this forum.

I smell a 3rd party developer is working on the recording feature for the Hauppauge HDTV card. Snapstream currently sells a "Snapstream and WinTV bundle.

This is just speculation of mine.

PS: I hope this message stays.

For almost the same price as the WinTV-HD, the average user could buy a set-top box for HDTV and connect it to a PC monitor.

If you only need to watch it in a window, then the WinTV-D can already do that at half the price of the WinTV-HD.

I think that recording and playback at full resolution is what really separates the HDTV cards from the other options.
