Panasonic Firmware questions...

Hi all,

Just had the TH-42PX60U delivered and am running the break-in DVD (gonna take me a while to relocate my satellite coax so I can hook up the box near the new location of the TV....i.e., the opposite end of the living room). Have a couple questions.

1) Was looking into the rev of the firmware on the TV using the faq at BruZZi's Forum. Checking the TV, I see the following in the about section:

TV 0142-0110
Status 1 01F00-90000

Looking at the second, fourth and seventh values, I come up with:

TV 1.21
Status 1 1.09

In BruZZi's example, both of his numbers match. Is that always the case? If so, what's the story on my pdp?

2) Looking at the Panasonic firmware page, I see 2 files for the TH-42PX60:

Digital Tuner Firmware v1.04
DG-Board EEPROM GenX Firmware v1.25

Questions are...Do I need both (seems the version numbers correspond to the TV and status 1 revs) and if I do, do they need to be done seperately? That is to say, do I need to put one on the SD card, do the upgrade, then go back, delete it off the SD card and put the next file on, and do the 2nd upgrade? Or put both on at once and the pdp will let me pick which one I want to upgrade?

the 1.25 updated both of mine, iirc

Just did the update.....upgraded both to 1.25

only thing that was odd was that I couldn't turn the tv off with the remote or button on the pdp once it was done. Had to flip the switch on my power strip.

After doing the flash of the eeprom myself I came to the conclusion that the value:

TV 0142-0110
Equates to "Flash Version" x1x2-x1xx or version 1.21

Status 1 01F00-90000

And the "EEprom Version" is x1xx0-9xxxx or version 1.09

as indicated by the flash procedure. Both of these values were updated to 1.25 meaning the flash version had to be updated from 1.21 to 1.25 to allow for it to flash in EEprom version 1.25.

As for the Digital tuner version, I am only guessing that the version is indicated in
TV 0142-0110 by reading the other numbers from right to left.

ie. xx4x-0x1x or version 1.04, so this firmware didn't require an update.

As for shutting of the TV after the flash.... Did you use the remote first or try the power button on the TV? If the power button on the TV, did you hold it for 5 or more seconds? Pressing and holding it for 5+ seconds is suppose to do the same as pulling the power cord. If you used the remote first, I wonder if that somehow defeated the power off from the panel until you pulled the plug.

What files and folder structure should be copied to the SD card after formatting with the panasonic SDFormatter software to perform the 1.25 upgrade? I can't find any docs on this anywhere?

Thx, Heston

Download the file, extract it to the root of the SD card and you're good to go. Instructions here: http://www.pasctraining.panasonic.co...structions.pdf

I have the Panasonic TH-42PX6U, I have been having a problem with the HDMI from my cable box, SA-8300HD to HDMI to the TV.
When I turn it on via the cable remote (everything associated with my system comes on), the HDMI-2, which is the slot I am using briefly shows up and then static. (The HDMI-1 will tune to the channel, go out and come back and go off) that is why I don't use it.
The only other cable going into the TV is the component-1. I can get the cable tuner to come on if I change the channel from analog to HD or vice versa. My current firmware version is 1.040, the tech support on the Panasonic site stated that she thinks it may be the TV is faulty. I have purchased another HDMI cable and the same result. Any suggestions? I have tried everything I know to fix this problem that I know to do.

I would switch out the cable box before involving Panny.
