Name one broadcast that is 4k? Film based or not, if it is sent out as interlaced you still have to pick one of horrible methods to deinterlace.
That sports 720p is such BS... It's more than that. Your are still processing the image twice as fast which results in a brighter picture when connverting the box to a single frame of 720p 60.
"The P, though, is also very important. People might be shopping for a television and see 1080i and immediately think that, because it has 1080 lines going across, the picture is better than a 720p. That’s not the case. The p stands for progressive and is better than interlaced because it can process the picture twice as fast. Therefore, the image gets on the screen faster and that creates a much brighter picture. The differences, therefore, are minute. More lines are used in 1080i, but the quality is better in 720p"
Also you said 1080 x 1440 is still more? Once again, it's about THE ARTIFACTS CAUSED BY DEINTERLACING, read again, its not about the raw pixel count, and getting back to that, .... It's not 1080i because filtering is applied
"As expressed earlier on, the differences between the two halves of an interlaced image lead to interlaced artifacts. To reduce the visibility of these artifacts, filtering is applied to the vertical resolution of an interlaced signal. This reduces the real image vertical resolution to some 60% of the number of scan lines supported by the 1080i interlaced format".
I never seen anything like, how these people like that first number of the digital broadcast format and ignore statements, articles etc.
Vertical, Horizontal, frame rate.
They focus on the vertical and ignore the P or i and the damage of combing artifacts by combining two fields of odd and even and the loss of resolution by filtering. Pure ignorance. They love that first number!
Don't tell me, when these people were kids they liked the hollow Easter bunny because it was bigger rather than the smaller solid one that had 75% more chocolate right?
Forget the i .. It's 1080, bigger than 720, forget all that single frame P stuff.never mind filtering and artifacts.Edited by Sole_Survivor - 7/29/12 at 7:16am
