NAS accessible device?

Hello everyone,
This is my first post after many days browsing the forum anonymously.

I am looking for a device that can access the storage on my NAS server. Is there such a device?

I have more than 3TB of storage on my NAS server. The servers and all of my PCs are connected to the local switch. I've read many postings on devices from Netgear, DLink, and the like. But none of these device can access the existing NAS server.

Is there such device that can just connect to my local network switch and access the my NAS server exiisting directories? The last resort would be to build a simple, cheap PC and install media server software on it. But this method will require a PC running all the time.

Many thanks in advance for any response.

Tvix HD M-5000U(A) and Tvix HD M-4000P is one such devices. It support either nfs or smb network drives (supports full dvd structure with menus from vob/iso image and with latest firmware also flac).

Atleast what I have read from this forum tell me they dont need PC to work and work from NAS without media server. I dont remember was it NFS or SMB or both they support in current firmware.

There is also Zensonic Z500: SMB support -- access Windows shares directly.

Good luck on finding a TVIX M5000U for sale anywhere. I think it's being discontinued and replaced by the forthcoming 4000P

Hello
This my first entry in this forum.
I am interested in the same thing. I have ordered the Intel SS4000-E NAS and now i am looking for a media player to support this system.
I looked for the Linksys Kiss DP-600 but since the connection to the media is being done by the PC-Link software there is no way to read the NAS.
For the D-Link DSM-520 I found a data sheet in their site where at the end there is a connection drawing that shows a NAS system connected to the network. I supposed that this means that it can access the NAS.
Can anybody confirm this.

I just went through the user manual and also looked at the diagram at http://www.dlink.com/products/resour...rid=1635&sec=0 , hoping to confirm your finding. The diagram shows the NAS connects to the same network as the Dlink, that's all. There's also a computer connected to this network as well.

My guess is that if your computer has a drive letter mapped to that NAS box, you can then install the D-Link media server software on it and assign it to that mapped drive (???). Since I never done this and don't have any such device, I hope someone can confirm this.

You could use a modded XBOX with XBMC on it. You have to define the shared drives in the config file, but that's it. Works nicely.

Actually they have impreved that now and you can do it all from the GUI without editing any XML files...

Yes. I can confirm, and the answer is yes, the 520 can utilize NAS drives. I'm currently using a 520 with an HP Mediavault, and am happy with the setup. The NAS has to be UPnP compliant (which the mediavault is) in order for this setup to work however. It's much better for me not to have to leave my computer running all of the time, so was a perfect solution for what I wanted to do.

This sounds weird to me. I had the same DSM-520 here for 2 weeks and never got it to work with my 1st generation Buffalo Terastation, which is not DLNA compliant unfortunately. I do believe it is UPnP compliant though. Is the HP Mediavault only UPnP and not DLNA ?
