Pediction: This forum will cease having useful posts and will be filled with useless/meaningless threads like "Will you click green links" and meaningless replies like "42"

believe it: It's already happening.
It doesn't take a prediction to know this subforum is headed in the same direction as ReplayTV.

But in the nearterm we still have icecow and the Senior Curmudgeon.

I think the worst part is, when you actually ask a question in those threads like I did asking what green links are / are about you don't even get replies.

It's like some inside joke that a bunch of people are laughing at and you are on the outside. Some of you may find it funny, but after you've had your initial fun at least let the rest of us in on the joke. Otherwise it's just rude and makes me not want to bother coming back to this subforum at all, and in particular it makes me leary of reading threads started by certain people.

Because that's probably what it is. Sorry you feel on the outside. But it's one of those things (kind of like Lost) where you had to be there, and get the references, to appreciate it. This subforum has been like that almost since the last millennium.

The only easy answer? I'm sure you were familiar with 42.

The little green links? Your guess is as good as mine... but I have to say I enjoyed the mystery. Got me to thinking. I too am leaning toward the (herbivoratious) green snow theory.

Don't even get me started on Zimbabwe!

(I'd say just relax put a dozen people on *ignore* and carry on)

Well usually when i'm with my coworkers and someone makes a refrence to an 'inside joke' and one person doesn't get it and asks what the joke is about... we clue him in. We don't just act like we are a bunch of superior people because we 'get it' and he doesn't.

It's elitest and frustrating.
Frustrating? Yes. Elitist, Superior? I suspect not.

(sum it up most succinctly: Clueless)

I mean if there was a Clue to spare, I'm sure it would usually be forthcoming.

I said in the 3rd link or so I wasn't clear what green links were--it's an abstraction looking for concretion (if that's a word), and sorry I didn't thank you for your good info in the NAS thread. I thanked a few people before realizing if I continued to individual thank everyone it would turn in to a weird thanking ceremony.

There's no inside jokes here except 'zimbabwe' and I've yet to infiltrate the ranks. When I respond 'zimbabwe' people just ignore me, and if I put 'zimbabwe' in a poll it gets an unusually lower number of votes than when some elitist like BaysideBas put puts zimbabwe in his poll.

And if it helps, I understand less than half of KenL's references. I hope people understand most of mine.

Furthermore, I accuse KenL's of making me look like a big inside joke with his zealotness. Oh sure I like to see myself lit up in headlights, but it's not all about me.

Switch to digital in 2009 will be wildly optomistic, government lets the free market decide when to switch all by itself...

I was thinking more along the lines of a stage set up in front of a drive-in theater.

I don't offhand recall the Senior Curmudgeon putting Zimbabwe! in his poll. Perhaps you were thinking of the AVS Special Amphisbaenia?

And file this under: hiding under the pot to call the kettle black

>Cudgeonmon(a cranky old person, there's some tripping web board related to it).

If you ever figure anything out let me know.

The forum also seems to be sensitive to 'post padding' whose definition reaches beyond meaning short "hi", "uh huh", "really?" posts. It also includes leaving more then one reply in a row even if you are responding to different posts and it logically makes sense to break down the replies into different posts.

wait. disregard everything I said. You're on your own.

How quickly the swamp is on the other hoof?
