Who has the shortest distance between the front of the projector and the screen?
And what size image do you end up with? What aspect ratio?

I know i don't but i'll start it off anyways!

Distance: 108"
Aspect: 4:3
Image Size: 50"H x 80"W

Sony 1251
Soon to be 1271!

MCE 05 1024x768
XBox 360 1024x768

Distance- *EDIT-will post when I measure it again*- maxxed rasters
Aspect ratio 4:3
Screen- 68"x51"

Sources-HTPC(1280x1024-still crisp),progressive scan dvd system(480p), motorola DCT6412 DVR box(running at 480p until I get a transcoder to go to 1080i. (IFB-12 doesn't like anything over 480p))

5th Sony 12xx I have had:
Sony 1272 rev.2 with only 1250 hrs on tubes+ PT-43 lenses from a 1270(better focus and color(color ppl will argue about but everyone that was here when I did the comparison said the color was better) than the HD-8 all-plastic junk lenses the 1272 came with).

Ceiling mounted with screen top against ceiling resulting in about a 5 degree throw angle(better raster usage).
Black fabric walls/ceiling between PJ and screen(plus over speakers and windows) for better theater feel. 2 couches for two rows of seating. The theater is in my living room.

i've read several of your threads Mr. Nut!!

I'm still a little wet behind the ears with this CRT stuff, but exactly what do you mean by:

I've heard that the HD-8 lenses were better?!

THanks

I can't remember exactly but I think my last setup with my 1252 was:
Distance: 100-110"
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Image: approx 40 x 70 (80 inches diag)

Sony 1252 w/
The old HD-8s. I wasn't very happy with the focus on them. Id like to try the HD-8 rev bs
Googleflapper mod for lens flapping. Makes for a pain to focus but really does work
Spring Mod for toe in. much better then the spacers IMHO.

DVDO Iscan HD+ set to 1184 x 666p
Old POS DVD player.

I have a Vph1270 running through a HTPC (also Xbox 360).

Distance: ~90"
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Image: Don't recall, but thought diag measurment was ~75"

Also Googleflapper mod for lens flapping, and (like previously mentioned) spring mod for toe-in.

Ok I am back(was quite busy for a few days)..

The IFB-12(and 12A) at least when hooked to one of our machines, will only correctly display up to 540p if I remember correctly(it will not work at ALL with a 1270). I can say from personal experience that both 1080i and 720p would display resolution wise(looked nice), EXCEPT that the color of the overall image gets a very strong dark green tint to it. I have not seen a workaround for this issue yet...

My experience with HD-8 lenses was with the stock ALL PLASTIC versions found on 2nd generation 1272's and 1252's. The PT-65 and PT-43 lenses I have are both considerably sharper. Now there are HD-8 lenses out there(rare) that have aluminum housings and ALL GLASS lenses that I am sure are better.

For sake of saving myself some grief, and your thread some argument, I won't argue the color benefit with the 43's(look at a 1270 with its three different colored(plus coded to match the respective tubes) lenses). My take on the reason for this is that they seem to help richen overall image color quality. My local friends would also back me up on that one. Again, thats the last I will say of the 43's, I wont argue with other forum members here who disagree with me.

Hey All,
Setting up an HT in basement (former playroom) of my new house, going for budget with maximized A/V effect. Have a 115" daylite screen (came with pj, 92w x 69h) attached at ceiling level. Ceiling mounting a VPH-1272Q (bought with 300 hrs, $450 ebay) 10' 3-7/8" from screen using the 1272 mount ($59 ebay). This after a lot of geometry and AutoCad fiddling. Still trying to figure out how to mount the pj to the ceiling to get adjustment to/from screen. Have "I" beam constructed wood trusses and not sure the best way of attachment yet without destroying drywall, etc.

Will connect pj to Crystalimage VS 4.0 scaler ($200 ebay) using 5-bnc connector cable. The VS 4.0 will connect Y-Pb-Pr to my Yamaha A/V receiver (BestBuy $400) with DirecTV input (s-video and digital sound), VCR (s-video and analog sound), Sony DVD/CD changer (fiance's - price cannot be calculated, s-video or 3-component and digital sound) inputs. The speaker system is a Bose Acustimass 15 (ebay $500).
Cheers,
Dave

I have a 1272 ceiling mounted about 108" away. It's 16x9, and about 48" x 87".

Set up a friends 1252 last week.

45"X80" screen. 97" throw.

So maxed out that when the white warm up is displayed, the lens shadow is within 1/2" of the screen.

looks great BTW.

I have my 1272 about 118" away from a carada 4x3 ratio screen, 86" x 65" .

mods: replaced all fans along with installing the zener diodes, this thing is almost dead silent, painted the case with automotive interior trim paint, black. installed hd-8 rev b lenses,i think they focus quite a bit better than the 65's that were original.still need to do the spring mods to replace the spacers.

sources: panny rp-91 to cs-1 scaled to 720p need to figure out how to make the 1080i program work in the cs-1 ,wrong colorspace,

IF you go with a zero keystone setup, you can use even more raster.

I'm at 90" 3x4 at 90" from the screen. as for the original hd 8's, its worth
finding a set, the hd8 rev b's are inferior to the originals, with the most
obvious difference being in the optical coatings of the lenses.

I'm back. thought I'd post tabulated results so far:
w h d ratio member
96 41 73 2.34 sinobi
92 69 124 1.33 daveconfused
87 48 108 1.81 wvpinballguy
86 65 118 1.32 408mustang
84 47 115 1.79 JosephF
80 50 108 1.60 72ScoutNGa
80 42 97 1.90 Don Rombach
70 40 100-110 1.75 reven8474
68 51 90 1.33 prof55

I had hoped to see what the closest distance for my size screen would be. The other aspect that may be missing is the distance from the green tube to the screen center. This accounts for offset. Anyhow, this has been interesting - lots of different setups!

The blended setup sure intrigues me. I saw Tim's Blendzilla setup with 9500LCs, and it's really nice. I hope to try it with 1272s, and something like Henric is using.
