Damelon,

Can you provide the measurements of your stage? Angles if you have them too
post #635 of 760
I had this handy, This was the first plan, we ended up building the curve about 6 inches less than shown so it didn't stick in the room as much. The angle is 45 degrees.

Here are a few shots of my finished theater.

Overexposed to show details:

More true to lighting as I walk in:

Before and after of the rear wall. I didn't bother to have the drywall or framing finished. We installed track and fabric to cover all walls and the ceiling, with carpeting for the floor. Track and fabric were easy with the exception of the soffit and lighting. That part was painful and very time consuming. There is obviously decking that went over the riser and stage, otherwise just carpet padding on concrete slab.

Thanks Big!
Do you know what the height is of the stage?

With my early calculations; due to the width of my room and the width of the screen I want, I'll have to chop off the 10" on each side, 3" in the center for screen difference

That also looks like a 2.40 screen correct? What is the height from floor to ceiling or floor to floor to soffit?

Stage was built with 2x10s, plus double 3/4" plywood. Remember a 2x10 is not exactly 10" wide. The soffit was 10 3/4" from the ceiling. It's a 2.35:1 screen. There was about 80" from the top of the stage to the bottom of the soffit.

Thanks Damelon,

I ask because under my stage will be my sump pump. The builder was nice enough to not bury the pit in the far corner but put it approx. 5.5ft from the back wall and about 8" over so at a minimum the stage will have to come out that far with a trap door for when I need to replace the pump...which is hopefully never since I went with a Zoeller M57

One last question, (probably) I know I won't have the same dimension since I am doing 1.78, but what is the dimension from the stage to the bottom of the screen?

Thanks for the complement. I didn't do a build thread, as I really only had a physical hand in the application of the fabric and track. Everything else was done by the contractors building the rest of the home at the same time, usually when I wasn't there. I did design and provide scale drawings for the room to the foreman for my home, and he had hand-picked crews doing the theater since it's definitely beyond standard construction code. I couldn't have done this without the help of the forum build threads and the Soundproofing Company. The concepts of soundproofing and, to a lesser extent sound modification with the stage and riser, led to a lot of questions and a few do-overs, all cleared by me before moving to the next step. The late decision to do a double dead-vent also presented some issues that we worked out. I'm really happy with how it came together.

Larry, Not really sure about that measurement. We literally taped it out, sat on the riser and sort of visually decided where we thought we liked it. You can either follow charts of recommended eye heights in proportion to the screen or you can just sit down and move the screen frame around until you like where it looks. Up to you.

I'm sure BIG knows how big the screen wall panel below the screen is, that might be close enough. Keep in mind too, if he has it, that the screen frame itself takes up some space too.
I can't recall the measurements so D will have to put a tape on it. The SMX frame is 3 1/2 inches or a total of 7 inches out of the height.
Yup, I took into account the 7" from the frame...from my rough math it looks like I can get about 8" off the the stage unless I do something about the soffit.

If you happen to be watching a movie and have a tape measure next to you, take a quick measurement

So here is what I ended up doing for my front wall. It's set up for the kids to watch their shows on the tv and then the big screen drops down in front for movies at night.

I think it worked out well.

Do you get any reflections off the TV when watching on your screen?

Some really nice screen walls in this thread!

Here is my attempt. It is a living room/theater combo (2 bedroom apartment), so unfortunately I have to keep the colors white.

Screen is 120" 16:9. Listening position is 11 feet from the screen.

Speakers and subs are from the JBL Pro Cinema series, Crown CTs amps and DBX DriveRack 4800 processing.

You're not the first one to react like that No complaints.. The building is very sound proof (thank God!).

The screen material is Phifer Sheer Weave 4500. I am very satisfied. Does not eat much lumens and the structure is not visible at the listening position. And its cheap!

Are the speakers really able to develop the sound by the time it gets to you? Those babies are meant for LARGE rooms, like auditoriums and such, not living rooms!

Not trying to be a smartie, but how does sound develop once it leaves the speaker other than reflections?

I have used conventional and smaller speakers too, and I dont have any issues with these compared to the others I have tried. MKTheater on this site has used pro speakers for a long time with great success, so I took the chance too. IMO they stomp all over every other speakers I've heard for movie reproduction. But they are not plug and play - far from it!
