New 'Alexander' Cut Coming to HD-DVD

New 'Alexander' Cut Coming to HD-DVD, Blu-ray in 2007
December 18, 2006

Warner Home Video has announced 'Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut' will be available on DVD February 27, with both HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions following sometime later in the year.

The new cut adds 45 minutes of filler and explicit material to the theatrical version. Jeffrey Baker, Warner senior VP and general manager of theatrical catalog, commented to VideoBusiness.com, "Most director's cuts and special editions are typically two to 10 minutes longer, and here we have [an extra] 45 minutes. Oliver really wanted to show the viewer what these battle scenes were really like, and the extended scenes of the battles give you the realism and sheer horror of them. There are [also] salacious scenes, heterosexual and homosexual, which tell quite a different version of the story than what we saw in theaters."

We'll have more information on the high-def versions of this apparently definitive cut of 'Alexander' in the months ahead.

I have multiple friends that are gay. I've seen them makeout and other things. IT doesn't bother me, but I just couldn't take this movie. The last thing I need to see is this in HD, though I might rent it for Rosario Dawson :-)

This has got to be one of the wierdest, least-expected releases. I don't know what to think. All cuts prior to this were so horrible (save for 20 seconds of Rosario Dawson nude) that I can't imagine any way in hell that it could be improved no matter what kind of extra footage they have.

IMO, this film was such a complete disaster that I'm not sure it even has any kind of real audience that will really want to own it at all. Maybe some kind of unique Joe who's a history buff and enjoys watching even the worst made-for-TV historical movies - but that's it. The average movie fan will want to avoid this like the plague...

EDIT: Double-post, sorry

I got the Director's Cut and thought it was a fairly entertaining movie. The gay scenes were taken out of that cut. At the time I was in an Ancient Civilizations class and the professor said it was pretty dead-on accurate to history.

I just wish Colin Farrel would go away. Why does he keep getting cast as a blonde? I haven't liked his performance since Minority Report and he's a jerk in real life.

Wow, that might actually make the movie a bit more watchable for me.

Colin Farrel was good in Tigerland. Prob one of his best movies.

It could be 45mins of Rosario Dawson nude. Which would be nice

Phone Booth was excellent as well.

He wasn't bad in Tigerland and I guess he was tolerable in Phone Booth, though I didn't think much of that movie. It felt more like an acting workshop than a film and I thought the ending was very cliche and actually annoying.

Go all Lifeforce with her! Why isn't every movie like that? Got a hot chick? Have her naked the entire running time! I'm telling you the Ferengis were geniuses!

hmmm, I may have to buy this version on HD. I have the original theatrical version on dvd and it was pretty good, albeit a little long. More sex and violence, especially more gay depictions would only help this film in my opinion. I know others would disagree but it is still a free country, isn't it?

is this the cut where they actually make a good movie?
I stayed away from this movie, maybe they are releasing it because the dvd has made the studio all the money that it could, now they have to release it in a new format to bring in some more bucks to help pay for this turd of a movie. I have personally never seen it, but I have heard too much about this movie to watch it. Does it show Angelina Jolie in the same bed naked with Rosario Dawson?? If so then I will buy it.

Worst accent ever in a movie: Angelina Jolie.

I'll end up picking this up I'm sure. I am a sucker for the historical goodness of it and overall find the movie interesting.

Agreed, I actually wasn't interested in this movie because of Mr. Stone but I watched it on HBO just because the history of Alexander was along with Greek and Roman history some of my all time favorites. I was disappointed with what I saw though, epic battles turned into 5 minutes of camera epilism, not enough into his disfunctional marriage, and as much as man on man relationships disgusts me, not enough of his relationship with ***** (forgot Leto's character name). In the theatrical cut they only use subtle steps to inform you then all of a sudden you get this massive explosion from Dawson's character.

I've bought many movies on HD DVD which I wouldn't have normally bought except for the HD DVD conversion. This is definitely NOT one of them. A putrid, bloated, mess.

OK, are we done with all the threadcrapping now? Has everyone got it out of their system yet?

What are we supposed to do in ONLINE FORUMS, except post our opions?
We are starved for info, and this is an announcement of an upcoming HD DVD which many of us have no interest in owning, thus do not see it as a "major" benefit to HD DVD.

This thread was about the most useless and offensive reading I have endured on this forum and should be closed.

I'm really excited to here about this one. I enjoyed the Director's Cut already on DVD. It's definitely flawed but certainly not boring. This may be one of the few cases where a longer running time actually helps the film (see Kingdom of Heaven for another such example). I'll definitely be purchasing this!
I'm torn on this one. Admitted, I haven't seen Alexander yet in any form--the initial negative release buzz made sure of that...
I just hope they use this as an excuse to release some more Stone movies at the same time. I'd like JFK, Warner.

This is true KOH did definitely tie up some loose ends in the directors cut. I had to explain to my boss what happened to the prick king who was riding on the donkey in a dunce hat, that is the last he saw of him in the theatrical version, while it goes further into depth with the extended directors cut. I must say that I wish collin farrell had been cast in place of Bloom in KOH, he pretty much ruined what could have been a stunning movie, instead it was just mediocre. Anyhow I may just pick up Alexander just to see it, I have seen some movies that everyone has hated and ended up loving it myself.

Might have to pick this one up... I had veered away from this movie based on posionous reviews at the box office.
I'm one of the few who really enjoyed this movie and will pick it up for sure
post #30 of 52
I enjoyed it as well but I'm probably in the "history buff" geek section on this one. While the movie doesn't have that mass appeal like other epics it does take some risks to portray what is likely a very accurate portrayal of Alexanders life. I'll pick this one up for sure unless the PQ is terrible.
