Should I Buy This TV?

I found a 26" Samsung HDTV (TX-P2675WH) at a local electronics store for a good price. I was thinking of getting an LCD, but I am very tempted to buy this set because it's cheap and it's right around the corner from my house.

Currently I have a Magnavox 27" tube HDTV that is starting to show some problems, so I'm definitely looking to upgrade. The only issue, though, is that the store doesn't give money back on returns--just exchange or store credit. Should I be skeptical of that, or is that a fair policy?

I'm not really sure if it's a display model or not, but it probably is. Do you have one of these TV's? How is it, is it any good?

I don't think I can post prices on here, but it's cheap. I haven't checked the build date, either--I'm gonna have to go do that. Also, what's an EW?

The only reason I really want a new hdtv is because my current one is 4:3. It still works, though, so maybe I can get a few more months out of it. Websites like this, though--they make me wanna buy a new tv every other week--lol.

Thanks for the EW definition. And yeah, it's under three hundred--that's why I'm so tempted. It is a small tv, but I sit close to the screen, so 26 inches shouldn't be a problem.

The qam tuner I'm not too sure about. I researched the set, and supposedly you had to get a firmware update for that to work properly. For me, though, it's mostly Xbox 360, so it's not a deal breaker. Would be nice, though.

As far as screen size--yeah, I'll be losing a whole lot of real estate when it comes to 4:3 signals; hopefully it won't be too bad. Samsung probably makes a better product than Magnavox, though, so I'm hoping it's quality over quantity in this case.

Yeah, that is small. Might have to get binoculars--lol.

I'm gonna go to the store again and see if the guy can turn it on for me. They have all there tv's on the floor and none are turned on. If I can't test it out, then I don't think I'll buy it. If it turns on and looks good, I might fork over the dough.

Ok, thanks. I have a feeling they're gonna tell me it can't be turned on because of the way their store is situated. Everything is crowded and disorganized. If that's the case, then I might have to rethink it. Wish there were more 26" crt's on the market. All I see is the Toshiba--maybe I'll give that a look.

Wow, thanks for the positive input. I haven't been back to the store yet to test it out, because I'm afraid the guy will talk me into buying it even if I can't get him to turn it on--lol.

Regarding your set, do you find the 26" screen big enough? I sit about 5 feet back; I'm wondering if that screen size will do.

My main use is Xbox 360. I play a lot of Call of Duty 3 online.

I watch a fair amount of free standard def television--food network, espn2, stuff like that. I only get OTA HD, so I don't watch as much as I'd like--some sports here and there and occasional primetime shows.

But yeah, my main thing is the 360. I'm a first person shooter nut--lol.

Well, I went ahead and bought the set finally. I was gonna buy the Olevia 32" LCD at Circuit City, but then I figured I'd go back to the store one last time to see if they still had the Samsung. They did, and, after some major-league chin rubbing and head scratching, I bought it. Here's my new setup:



When I first brought it home I was disappointed to find a big purple discoloration in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. I almost brought it right back right then and there, but I thought it might be magnetic interference, so I ordered a degaussing coil from ebay. I couldn't actually believe it, but after about 10 seconds of waving that in front of the screen, everything went back to normal. I never did that before, so I was shocked.

It's a great tv, though, and I'm glad I stuck with CRT in it's dying days. Thanks for all the help.

So you made a post to tell me I got ripped without even knowing how much I paid. You're smart.

Plus my tv stand maxes out at 100 pounds, and I like to sit close to the screen. And I also bought from a local store to help support my community. But you probably knew all that.
