Firmware 2.1 Availabilty

Firmware version 2.1 is now officially avaibale on the Toshiba site.

good idea

Dumb question: Is there even a v2.1 firmware that's supposed to come out?
I think this should be made a sticky. Why? How many times do we have repeated questions regarding v2.1. A thread dedicated to that will centralize all the inquiries.

Yes, it has been repeatedly confirmed by Toshiba technicians and "insiders" like Robert from Value Electronics that Toshiba will continue supporting the A1/XA1 players at least into next year with new FW updates.

A 2.1 FW was actually rumored to be out this week but has not yet materialized.

Please keep this thread on track, don't let this one also get derailed into discussions about topics NOT RELATED TO FW 2.1 RELEASE INFO

Just posting to keep track of this post !

I am also in need of the 2.1 fw (HD-A1 over 2.0 still works too much as a prototype).

Just an FYI. You don't need to post to this thread to keep track of it. There is the option to subscribe to a thread under "Thread Tools" at the top.

BTW: I am monitoring the internet download on a regular basis. Nothing to report so far. Wasn't sure this thread was such a good idea but the overall responses so far look promising. That said, since this will most likely not become a sticky, we can keep this thread alive by bumping but let's keep it at a minimum. OK?

Thanks all!

Why does this thread need to be bumped every day?

why not?... Do you really want this thread burried and someone starting a new one again?...

BTW, why is it taking so long for the firmware update this time?... Are we getting a newly brewed, a perfect one?
I think they're gonna wait till the A2 has been out for about a month before they release any new firmware..

And, this thread should be a sticky.
The best reason to bump this thread is so we don't have 3-4 other threads asking when the 2.1 is coming out....when we only need one thread on the topic.
Hello Bump......
The title should be changes to include A1, XA1 in the title. The A2 uses a different firmware.

*Post for my Blackberry email notification*

I sure hope they fix the HDMI->DVI Blacker than Black issue.

Maybe they aren't going to release a new one AT ALL!!!!

I have emailed them about a few of the problems, such as audio dropouts and the inability to revert to previous firmware. I was told to contact Customer Services on the 1-800 number.
Well I am posting to see when it comes out!

I have yet to use my A1 but am almost positive that new update will help me out in some way!

Lets hope it's a HUGE update and not one that is small and only fixes a few things!
they've said tat they will support this player for a while to come yet.. Don't get your britches in a bunch

Received testerday from Toshiba in reference to my question:

"Hello , Ken

Thank you for taking a moment to contact Toshiba customer support with your inquiry. In regards to firmware upgrades on the HD-A1 and HD-XA1, they will be released periodically moving forward. Once a new version is available you can acquire it by: a) Downloading it directly to the player via ethernet connected to a broadband connection or b)contacting customer service via phone or email requesting a firmware upgrade disc. The current version available is 2.0. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact us.
Season's greetings and have a wonderful new year.

That is a great response - NOT!

Could it be any more canned?

Toshiba was handing out the 2.0 upgrade disks at CEDIA like they were candy. My guess is it will be the same at CES, IF, they have one to hand out at all. I can tell you that there is a lot of pressure from some very connected folks for these issues to get resolved. Not to mention that there is a format war going on too.
I suspect there will be an new firmware release in the next week or so. I spoke to a engineer there and that was what I was told last week. It wouldn't surprice me that it gets delayed due to the holiday. It seesm many workers work much slower/do less during any holiday but especially this holiday.
I bet January will be when it gets released... Just a calculated guess...

Maybe it will be a new years gift to all Toshiba first gen owners!!!! Release it at 12 on new years!
I say they release 3.0 (b/c adding a feature) the weekend before CES. Then at CES they brag like crazy that EVERY HD DVD player decodes ALL the next-gen audio codecs (DD+, TrueHD, and DTS-HD MA) and is equipped for all the internet capability stuff. Unrivaled by any BD player on the market...and oh yeah...for half the price

I just hope if there is a 2.1 upgrade it will do something about the skipping that came with 2.0.
When I was running v1 I had skipping on HD disks maybe one in 15 and none on SD disks, after 2.0 was loaded I have skips on all disks and not just one or two a disk but 5-10 a disk making it almost intolerable to watch and I have guests coming after Christmas and can't bear to listen to the crap I will have to hear about all the blue screens.
I have tried soft reboot, hard reboot, cleaning with distilled water and micro fiber cloths both dry and moist and now I am going to use medical alcohol on some rented disks tonight. I also relocated player to an area with more air flow.
I did a search for skip and found 987 posts on the subject read a lot but as of now no solution has come of it.

try turning the optical/coaxial output to PCM, thus disabling the DTS remuxing and taking a huge load off the player, don't waste your time with cleaning the discs, that is not the issue

Merry Christmas all!

With all due respect, I would like to make a point of order here. The intent of this thread was to primarily to have a thread that people could subscribe to and be notified as to when the 2.1 firmware officially becomes available for the A1/XA1. Secondary purpose is to provide a forum where factual information, not conjecture or wish lists, about the 2.1 firmware could be posted.

The thread can and should be kept alive by periodic bumps until either the firmware is released or we find out for a fact it will not be released. Since the firmware has not been released yet, there is very little information about the new firmware and not a lot to say. Once the firmware is released I would hope we could THEN begin relevant discussions about what the upgrade did, what it missed, etc. Anyway, that was my intent.

Jim
