Vancouver, BC... AVS Forum HD DVD tour stop March 9

Thread Starter
I've recently moved to the lower mainland of BC. I'm wondering if there has been, or if there are any plans to have an AVS Forum HD DVD tour stop here? I'd love to be able to see/hear what is coming up in the HD DVD and to show my support.

Plus it's so close to Amir and Kevin! it's almost their back yard.

Anyone in the lower mainland willing to host? I am in an apartment, so I'm not a good candidate.

I'm in but my setup is not "host worthy".

This sounds exciting. I live in a house and my HT room can accommodate 6 comfortably and maybe up to 10 people at a time.

My equipment :

12'x18'x8' room
Tosh A1 HD DVD
100" screen by Screen Innovations
Sony G70 Crt Projector - from Curt Palme and isf'd by Richard Stokes
5x Monitor Audio B2s (Right/Center/Left/Rears)
2x Monitor Audio BFX Surrounds)
2x SVS 16-46 CS Plus Subwoofers

Nothing like Art's setup but i'm very happy with it.

What are the requirements to host such an event?

I believe some type of a "theatre" with a 1080p projector that can fit all the people who would come. I guess if we got 8 people, plus Amir, and Kevin, that's 10.
The Sony can output 1080i nicely but 1080p is abit of a stretch. I'll see if i can post some pics. Or maybe someone else can step up or we can rent a place for one night. Perhaps we can find a Toshiba dealer and get them to host such an event. It will be worth the time and effort if there is enough support.

I am interested! I have a Sony Pearl 1080p and a dedicated room about 14x19. I am currently running the 360 addon and could host an event.

Thanks Jaoquin! I'm sure everyone will be willing to help out with beverages and snacks.

If your system passes muster with Amir and Kevin then all we need now are sufficient bodies.

So far:

Haulin Oats
Slider33
HTLurker
Jaoquin
JodyL

There are a lot more Vancouver area members around. Come on guys, lets get some interest here!

How many people do we need?? I'm not sure what is sufficient, but to be more precise I have a 1080p Sony VPL VW50 (pearl), Screen Innovations 110" reference series screen. I am also running the Denon 4306 receiver with Mirage frx7s across the front and Monitor Audio dipoles in the rear. I am currently planning on getting the new toshiba XA2 when it becomes available. The entire basement is finished and set up to easily entertainment a lot of people. I've held poker tournaments of up to 30 people quite comfortably. As for the theater room i have four berkline recliners now and am planning on adding a second row to make it eight. For now the second row is simply a couch and i can easily fit a lot more by bringing in extra chairs. I am ready and available for the new year. Let me know what we need to do to get Amir and Kevin on board.

Well so far so good, any idea of how many attendees we need? I can definitely get a least two friends who are hardcore videofiles that would be in as well. so you can count me as three. As for the food, no problem there I can take care of that, its one of my other hobbies.

would definetely be interested!. Have the HDA1 attached to a Denon 2803; viewing on a Sony Grand Wega 60" and listening to it all on a 7.1 Paradigm speaker system in a 23 x 11 HT room. Am from Chilliwack and would be happy to help out in any way I can. Cheers

Merry Christmas to all!

Looking forward to meeting you in the new year!
We had twenty plus the girls me. I think they said 10 to 15 enthusiasts or so was the thing they were looking for. The thing is, unlike HT meets ,where you can run demos then clear it out and run another group through( my last I had over sixty people), there is only one presentation so you want to make it comfortable for a few hours for the number invited
