Jaoquin:

What is the reasonable capacity of your home theatre? As Amir pointed out, we may be getting into over capacity if all the friends show up. Can you give us some guidance regarding the maximum number of people that you would feel comfortable to accomodate? Perhaps we should limit friend invites to one per person? Any wife that is interested in HT should be welcomed with open arms (geez, no WAF considerations for those lucky guys). BTW, thanks for volunteering to host this event!

Jody,
I have been wondering about this question myself as the names keep piling in. My room is 14X19, and i think if i bring in a bunch of chairs etc i can probably get about 15 sitting in the room with a reasonable view. Now i do have a six foot opening (double doors) to the back of the room so you can easily see the screen from outside the room, but of course this is not ideal. I could play around with the seating arrangement to see how i can fit some more bodies. As for the second part of your question, i have no problem hosting a lot of people, there is a lot of room in the basement. I do think we need to limit the number of people first though, to ensure that those interested get the best experience possible. That being said i think we should probably start with confirming the date and the number of people that can make it and then go from there. Other than that that i am pumped to do this and looking forward to meeting everyone.

jaoquin, I am willing to help out with you as much as I can as well. I'm currently "in between jobs" so I can help out during the days and such. Plus being that we're so close, it's not gonna be a long trek to get to your place.

What are the possible dates and times for our get-together? I would like to know at least a week in advance as I would need to book a rental car to attend. I am one of those downtowners that walks to work and I don't own a vehicle, but this is not a problem as I would not miss this for anything.

I will check with the website that I write for (www.dvdreview.com) to see if there is anything they could send me to bring for you guys and gals, like studio freebies, etc. I can't guarantee anything, but I can at least ask.

Murray:

I own a 7 seat mini-van and can volunteer to drive a couple of guys. I could easily pick you up at the North Vancouver seabus terminal. Don't waste the bucks on a rental car unless you really want to.

Now on to my secretarial duties:

So far:

Note: As per Amir's previous post - we may need to keep this to members and their wives - the body count is really growing (either that or do two sessions) - no one has a home theatre that can comfortably accomodate 35 people for two to three hours. What do you guys think?
When this meet takes place I hope you guys ask some really tough questions! Hopefully there will be some good answers because HD DVD has a tough hill to climb and we need some encouragement to make the climb with it.

Cheers,

Grant

Definitely!

After CES2007 - more questions for Amir.

Hi,

I'm out in Port Moody and when I saw this thread I was anxious to at least put my name down for a potential spot. Just got the Toshiba a-2 player and am enjoying my first 15 titles or so on the format.
I'm guessing you guys will be pressing the HD-DVD guys to get some dates for discs and reflect how the HD-DVD community is feeling in terms of software after the poor CES showing? Especially after the last meet there was a real enthusiasm about all the top secret stuff that was spoken about, which I think the public needs to hear quickly.

We had a phenomenal CES. Anything else is just propeganda. But yes, we will be talking impressive new support for HD DVD in all areas from silicon partners to CE companies.
I was meaning more in terms of software, I was impressed with the hardware news don't get me wrong. But as you would know, a lot of people, not just this forum are now considering getting BD players because of the lack of dates on the software. Myself personally, I've had a HD player for only 3 weeks and I've run out of titles to order, which is a scary position.
I have had my A1 for almost 5 months, and as much as I love the HD DVD format I have to agree... My movie buying has definately slowed. I won't buy a BD player until I have to, but I'm hoping that never happens.

and people should remember, CES is about hardware, not software!

Yes this is true, but we still need software announcements, CES or no CES. Feb is looking bare!

I am a little late to the party but if there is room for one more person from White Rock I would love to make the trip.

Maybe we should just get MS to rent out The Orpheum, or the Commodore, or something along those lines for all of us.

are there any B&M stores that would host? I'm too new to the area to know of any that might be interested. I know this has happened at other locations. At the rate of people being interested, it looks like we're gonna need like 4 or 5 separate sessions.

I'd like to attend, (Wes) - Vancouver
Amir, any ideas of possible dates for this event?
Not yet. Kevin who does these things with me moved to a new house and is trying to spend a couple of weeks with his family but more importantly, set up his new home theater!

But we can get going on logistics now. How about wheover is hosting this PM me with the details? I can then coordinate it from there on.

Thanks.
Another lurker here, registered just to post this.

Depending on the date, I (and my girlfriend) would like to come out for this event if possible.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, very much so. As a matter of fact, I was trying to finalize the dates late last week.

Here is what we are looking at is the evening of March 5th or March 6th. The question whether people can make this meeting after work (we usually start around 7:00pm and bring snacks) or you want to do it on a weekend. In which case, I need to consult with my family to see what dates are possible for that.

So please chime in with your preference and we will take it from there.

And whoever is hosting the party, can you please PM me with your availability and an email address so that we can start to organize things from that direction too?

March 5th works for my wife and I.
