Agreed. It appears that too much bubbly causes heartburn. I Might need to cut down on the C02 mixture.

Looked like you were ready to buy Yamaha speakers yesterday for a lower price.

Also , the Aperions have a silk dome tweeter, not a horn tweeter as you mentioned in the other thread yesterday.

Hope you are able to find something you like at a price that will work for you.
Yep, still shopping and researching everything. There are numerous choices which look to be good, so it's hard to say really.

Silk dome is better than horn I take it?

Better is all in one's opinion. They have very different sounds. I am not fond of horn tweeters, others swear by them.

You need to do some auditioning, and then get the Aperions. It's awesome you get to test them in YOUR home, with YOUR equipment. Everything seems to sound great in those sound rooms.

Another nice thing about Aperions...free shipping both ways....risk to you = ZIP!

Good Luck to you.

Depends upon what you like. Klipsch are probably the best known speakers with horn tweeters.

Some say they are bright, some say they are more detailed.

You'll have to listen to various speakers to know how they sound to you.

I really like my Aperion 6B's and 6C but they may not appeal to you.

That's the problem with selecting speakers - so much depends upon your personal preferences. You can narrow the field with the advice of others but the ultimate choice is yours alone.

Putting the subjectivity of sound quality aside. The one thing that really stands out with Aperion is the build quality. They are constructed with the highest quality materials and is very, very solid. They look like peices of furniture. The piano black finish is in a class of its own. Of course the other internet direct manufactures offer Piano black, I just heard that it comes at an extra charge. So you are getting a speaker that adds style and class to any home décor.

I second this.. And also I doubt other speaker companies put their speaekers in velvet bags or give you a speaker care kit with gloves!!

50% off B-stock items!

Say there, you wouldn't happen to have a pair of B-stock S8 subs lying around that you would like to shake loose a little early now would ya?

I'd really love to try out a stereo sub set up.

I'm on the east coast too.

Depressing, just depressing. Especially after my wife may have finally caved in on letting me get speakers this summer. She did want paper tickets in return (anniversary). Airline/cruise tickets is what she was thinking. Maybe I'll surprise her with tickets to Portland. And if I could get tickets with those hot dogs I could have it covered...

When my wife saw me open the boxes, then those velvet bags came out............well that was the end for me, I just didn't know it at the time. I now have a second dog. A standard poodle, 12 weeks old tomorrow. And it's not over yet.......... granite counter tops are in my future. NEVER open the boxes in front of the Mrs. When you pull out those velvet bags, the girls see that and start foaming at the mouth, rolling on the floor and want even more than what we spent on the speakers. It's best to open the boxes when you are home alone. It's those bags............those damn velvet bags!

Funny...

I came home from work the other day and there was a small box on the kitchen table from Aperion...The wife said "More Speaker Stuff, huh?"...I opened it up and there was my free black hat for writing my review. She didn't believe me when I said I didnt pay for it...

I got a free hat yesterday too (mine was beige), but when my girlfriend saw it she just laughed. She has never seen me in a baseball cap so when I put it on she said that I looked like a dad and that I should be mowing a lawn.

Not that very many people probably care, but I will be writing the review of my 4Bs and 4C set that I promised this weekend. I wanted to make sure I got a good listen before putting pen to paper (or in this case fingers to keyboard).

Wow, Aperion must be clearing their warehouse of hats in addition to their A and B stock speaks, as I also received my free hat yesterday (finally submitted a review of the Intimus in-ceiling speakers I've had since November). My wife saw the box and also assumed I was buying more speaker stuff.

Definately let us know how that new 4 series system pans out...Did you get the bravus 8D sub? I'm thinking of recommending the 4 series system to a couple of my freinds and mother in law...I'd rather them look into that than a HTIB...

Here is my preliminary speaker review. I am currently using an Onkyo receiver that came with a HTIB which will be replaced tomorrow when I go to pick up my new Marantz SR4002. If any of my opinions about the speakers change with the new receiver I will definitely let you guys know.

First of all I will start with room dimensions and speaker placement. The room is 13X13 feet at a height of 8 feet. I sit 10 feet away from my 42 inch plasma which is located directly in the middle of one of the walls. The 4C placed directly below the tv with the middle of the center speaker is 18 inches off the ground. The L/R are spaced 7 feet apart on 31 inch speaker stands angled to point just over my shoulders respectively. My side surrounds are still my old HTIB speakers that will be replaced in mid June but 2 more 4Bs. They are located in the upper corners of the room at a height of almost 8 feet (just below the ceiling). I know that is not ideal but room layout and windows make that the only option.

Now to how the speakers sound. The sound is clear and crisp but does not hurt my ears on high pitches either. My center speaker is located in an entertainment center that is enclosed on the sides with approximately 3 inches clear on both sides and 4 inches above it. My old center always sounded muddy and hard to understand. This very well might be because it was rear ported in the cabinet with no space to its sides. The 4C allows me to understand the dialogue on my movies unlike I ever have in the past. The fact that the speaker is not rear ported and the increased quality of the speaker has made more of a difference in my movie watching that I ever have in the past. Overall I have been more than happy with the 4Bs and 4C for the space of the room and the fact that I don't like to crank my movies really loud.

I have used a wide variety of content to test these speakers over the last 2 weeks. I have listened to war movies (Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan), music movies (Walk the Line and Walk Hard), and a variety of tv shows and other movies.

As far as my sub no it isn't the S8. It is however an 8 inch sub which is more than suffecient to cover in the lower frequencies for the 4 series. In case you are interested it is an Outlaw LFM-2.

I could not be happier with my speaker choice and am hoping that the Marantz has a little bit of an easier time driving the speakers and that the auto calibration might fix any inadequacies that I have had doing my current calibration by ear.

Thanks for reading and hope that this helped anyone who is interested in the smaller 4 series speakers as their main speaker system.

Good review. I have been very impressed with my 4Bs. I have 4 of them and use them as surrounds. I listen to music in "all channel stereo" on my Onkyo 805 and those little 4Bs put out awesome sound. I have 2 6Bs and a 6C for my front soundstage. My mother in law and father in law are about ready to buy there first surround sound system and I have recommended the 4 series to them. I think they will be really happy with them.

Nice. The one thing I miss about my Onkyo is the All channel Stereo Mode. For some reason Onkyo's all channel Stereo Mode sounded better than myYamaha RX-V661's 7 channel stereo mode..And that was the Onkyo HTIB HTR-550. Maybe I don't have the 7 channel stereo mode calibrated correctly but the Sub Woofer doesn't sound as nice in 7 channel stereo and the rears are to high.

I have a few questions about a couple different systems. Unfortunately I have never heard the speakers in person but I have read great things about them. I am looking at both the 533-PT and the 633-T. I recently sold off my older sony receiver and Klipsch surrounds. The family room is 19x25 with 11' ceilings and hardwood floors. I have a circular sectional so from eyes to tv ranges from 14' to 18'. The purpose of the new system is 55% movies, 30% gaming and 15% music (musical taste varies greatly). My plasma is mounted above a fireplace and the location for the 533's is perfect because two outlets flank the tv which can power the towers without worrying about wires. My wife finally warmed up to the towers but she wants all wires to be hidden and as of now they are all running through the attic and behind molding. Will the 533's be underpowered for the room? I tend to think not but honestly have no idea... that whole never heard them thing. Should I add a sub to the integrated sub as well? What other sub would you recommend with the 633's if not the S-12? How are the 5DB surrounds? They look great. My budget is $2500 because I have to replace my receiver as well but thats for another day.

Hey there,

Welcome to the forum! I don't know if you noticed but we are down to cherry finish for the 633-Ts. The site says we are out of the PTs in black as well, but I know that for the moment we do have one more pair in the black finish that I would be happy to sell you, so those factors may influence your decision.

As for how the speakers compare, its a bit of a trade off between the two models. The 633s will give you more fullness through the mids and better overall projection to fill your space, but the PTs will give you more bass because of the built in subs.

If you are thinking of adding a separate sub anyway, then I would go with the 633-Ts since then you will have the added bass from the sub as well as the nice full midrange sound that the 633s will give you.

The S12 is certainly a great choice to compliment the 633s, but you might also think about the Bravus 10. It won't go quite as deep as the S12 (26 Hz vs. 20 Hz) but the power of the amp is the same so it will do just as good of a job in terms of filling the room. Plus the Bravus has the edge over the Intimus in a few other areas, first and foremost it uses a sealed cabinet design that gives a really nice and smooth bass response, plus it has a digital amp that is more efficient. Because the Bravus subs are completely digital we can pack some nice features into them that the Intimus subs didn't have like parametric EQ and remote control.

The 5DBs are the best surround speaker we sell in terms of home theater as they are only speaker that was designed specifically with surround effects in mind. They are a little particular as to where you place them as their ideal position is directly to your sides 5-7 feet up the wall. If you are going to be putting the surrounds behind you or they need to be lower than that you might think about going with the 5B and save yourself a little money.

I think that covers it, but if you have any other questions please let me know or feel free to give us a call or stop by our webchat so we can talk a little more in depth, thanks!

I was eyeing the 5 DBs to use as my rear surrounds, but now you're making me re-think. My home theater is set up in our great room, which is open in the back to the kitchen. A huge support beam hangs down approx. 13 inches from the ceiling (10 ft ceiling), and the support beam is located directly above where the tile floor in the kitchen ends and the carpet floor in the great room begins. I currently have a pair of inexpensive (I'll avoid saying cheap, because they actually sound decent) bookshelf speakers flush mounted against the support beam that serve as my rear surrounds.

So now I have a couple preliminary questions on using the 5Bs as rear surrounds. First, can they be mounted flush against a wall? Not sure if this is possible since they are rear ported (and also, I don't see any key hole slots or anything similar on the pictures showing the back of the speaker). Also, could I use a 200 watt RMS per channel amp to drive these speakers without damaging them? I see the "recommended" power rating is up to 150 watts, but I'm wondering if this is more a guideline than a hard rule. I very rarely listen to 7-channel stereo and I don't have a SACD or DVD-Audio player, so 95 percent of the time, my rear speakers are used for surround sound from movies and video games.

Thanks,
-Nick

Any reason you can't attach a pivot mount to the front of the beam or a ceiling mount to the bottom?

I guess if you have to flush mount them you can, but I would plug the ports or else they will sound mighty muddy.

As for the amp they will be fine, we have surround 5Bs hooked up to a 200 watt Outlaw 7700 and they sound great, we also had 532s in the same position for over a year and I still use them to demonstrate the difference between the old speakers and the new line.

I'm still a bit stuck on what to do (big surprise) lol

I'm still debating whether to get two tower speakers and be done with it, or to get two bookshelves with stands and a separate sub. I'd personally prefer to avoid the sub for power consumption savings and the piece of mind that my roomates would forget to turn it off and leave it on all hours of the night.

I see reviews of subs on the Aperion website and see people saying they could get the 8" $500 one to shake the windows, which is absolutely not my goal at all. I don't want or need that power or response ast all (I live in a townhouse), just want a little bass punch which I'm still convinced good towers could give me (havn't listened to them though).

I still don't have a receiver, but want that new Pioneer that will be released next month. And when it comes out, I'm still going to wait a few weeks to see if any problems or issues come up with that model from owners on this board (I do a lot of research). Otherwise I'd jump on the 5Ts and try them, and if I still feel they don't give good bass for my purpose, I'd exchange them for the 6Ts. And if I still wasnt happy, then I'd try the 5Bs and get a sub, and still not happy, then exchange again for the 6Bs and sub. I would use the exchange feature of your products within the 30 day period (if I can do that). Personally I feel I'd be happy after the second exchange, but that's some $$$.

Guess I'll just keep reading reviews and wait for a "professional" review or two until that Pioneer receiver comes out.

I also probably mentioned this previously, but I will be listening at low-medium volumes, and don't want to be listening to a speaker that's not sounding it's "potential" because it's not being driven hard enough.
