thanks for the responses so far from everyone.

anyone else??

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago when I was looking to buy my Aperions. I ended up going with the HSU STF-2. Mainly because it has outstanding reviews and the price difference between the HSU 10" and Aperion S-10 is around $125 more for the Aperion. I was on a rather tight budget, otherwise I may have given the S-10 a try.

Also... just a little thing I learned. If you don't order a full 5.1 system (or bigger) from Aperion, they don't give you the nice little SPL Meter.
I have heard that the Aperion sub is good, but I got a Velodyne DLS-3750R (10") because it was cheaper ($150 less) and a friend had one that he liked. If the Aperion would have been a similar price, I probably would have got it, but I couldn't justify the extra expense.

BTW, I only ordered a 5.0 system from Aperion and I got the free SPL meter. Maybe it was an accident or maybe they changed their policy.

I am a newbie but have been reading a lot in these forums. So am in need of help.

I am seriously considering buying the 533 powered towers with the 533 vac center speaker for a room that is 20x16x8 with a somewhat open back wall. I will be hooking up to Denon AVR 2808. Panny PZ 77U mounted above fireplace (bought for $1800 CC deal). Would the in-ceiling 632s work well with this system. My other option would be the 533 towers without the power but add the 10 in subwoofer. Any advice would be greatly appreiciated.

My tech guy is advising me to go with Sonance ellipse 1.0 in-ceiling and Sonance SRS1 in-ceiling for surrounds. I have no clue which way is the best way to go.
What is the main use of your room? I assume with the Panny and the surrounds that it's movies. From that perspective I would lean towards the 533T + sub setup vs the 533PT setup.

As for in-ceiling speakers for surround I'm afriad I have no help for you in that department. I went with the 534-SS and will be adding the 532-LR for 7.1 next year.

I agree with accts4mjs. This setup will be far superior to the Sonance in-ceiling mains suggestion. Of course your installer will not be happy but he will not be listening to it for next few years - you will.

I have worked with many surround configurations and in-ceiling works when you do not have the option for any other type of wall mounted speaker for surrounds. This sounds like the case for your room. Stick with an all Aperion setup including the 632's for your surround effects. You will not be disappointed. If you are - send them back.

I have the 6 series and mated them with the SVS PB12+. The piano black finish matches perfectly with Aperion. Driving them is the Onkyo 875 and they needed 50 to 75 hours of breakin, with several hours at at just below reference level. After this I am very pleased with the sound of both Aperion and SVS. LFE was meant to be heard and felt which the SVS performs admirably. As stated earlier a dedicated sub company must deliver a quality product to compete in the marketplace. Both HSU and SVS are quality products.

Thanks for the input. This is very similar to what I want to be getting in a month or so.

Thanks again for the input from everyone.

Hey guys, I am looking at getting an Aperion 5 series system in the near future. However, I want to upgrade my current 5.1 system to 7.1. I have a Pioneer VSX-84TXSi. I know most people get the 532-LR for surrounds, which I intend to do. What do you guys think of the 422-LR as a surround back speaker? I wanted to buy those first because they are very affordable and have great reviews. I wanted to hear what fellow AVSers felt about them to complement a system of 5 series Aperions. Should all the surround speakers be the same?
I have the 422's for surrounds and they work fine
post #312 of 6571
This is a tough question to answer. The problem here is that for the most part there is precious little software that is outputting 7.1 channels of sound. Which means for the most part you're getting matrix sound out the back surrounds. Given that I don't think it matters that much because it isn't distinct and will be less noticeable.

However, from a pure performance perspective the two speakers absolutely sound different. The 532 has a much wider sound stage and a lower frequency range than the 422s. How much does that matter for you in your surround setup? If it matters then go with 4 532s. Another setup is to have 2 534-SS surrounds on the side and 2 532 LRs in the back.

Tough call. Honestly I would order up both 532s and 422s for the back of your room and do some comparisons and once you decide keep what you want and send the others back. And PLEASE () let us know what you do and think.

Thanks,
Mike

Again I have the 422's, performance aside, what matters is the final reception by the human ear. They are excellent for surrounds. Surround is most the time, incidental sound. Yes you can spend more and get better, but where do you stop. I mean the money runs out at some point for most of us.
I just ordered a 5.1 speaker set from Aperion. Pair of 533T, 533VAC, S10 and 422LR. They are going to pair up with Onkyo 705. Can't wait for them to arrive.
I am considering buying the 422-c to go along with the 632 LR. I need a smallish center to fit in the space I have (wife thing you know!). I was wondering if anyone has this center and what it sounds like and if the 422C is voice matched to the 632?
Well I am about to pull the trigger on the Aperion 532 LR and the 533 VAC center. Before I do I wanted to know if all of you are satisified and if these speakers sound good with music and movies? Also, are these speakers considered bright, warm or neutral? Will they work well with an Onkyo 705 reciever?

I would advise against it. With the 632LR I would think you would want at least the 533-VAC as a center. The guys at Aperion are incredibly helpful though, so I recommend calling them

Very satisfied... although I must warn you I started out intending to buy what you have listed, and ended up with the 534 towers and the onkyo 805 instead!

Certainly I can say that the quality of the Aperion speakers I have is phenomenal, esp for the price, and the Onkyo seems to work very well with them. My only concern about your setup is with no subwoofer and only the bookshelves you may suffer in terms of bass response.

As for the tone, its hard for me to say as I got the receiver at the same time so I am not sure what is what - certainly they don't feel too bright, but they produce very clear and crisp sound

This isn't quite the same situation, but I had a pair of 422s as LR surrounds, against the S-10, 533-T towers and 533-VAC center. I had to upgrade the 422s to 532s because the sound from the 422s got lost.

When the 534-SS dipole/bipole speakers are available again in black, I will bring those in as surrounds and move the 532s to the rear surrounds for 7.1

Actually I have a 12 inch sub already. I am upgrading an existing 5.1 system and I'm starting with the L,R,C first and eventually will purchase the 632's for fronts and will move the the 532's to the rear. I would love some towers and it still may happen but right now I'm going in this direction. Hopefully I will complete the system within 6 months or so.

I just wanted to make sure everyone was satisfied with the speakers and get an idea what the Onkyo receiver sounds like with these speakers. I was considering Klipsch as well but their center is too big for my setup.
For those that have these speakers, are the actual speaker recessed in the cabinet? I understand that defraction can ocurr if the speaker itself is not recessed.
I don't have the exact speakers you want to get, but I have an Onkyo receiver and a 7.1 Aperion setup and I am extremlly pleased with it.
Just ordered two 532-LR, a 533-VAC center, and the S-10 sub for a 3.1 setup. Will eventually get another set of 532-LR for surrounds but had to save some money for my furniture and receiver (Onkyo 705). Very excited!

This is my first home theatre setup. My TV is the Sony KDS60A3000. Also have a PS3 and a Wii. Anyway, will post some feedback once I get everything setup.

PS3.............. sounds like Blu-Ray time to me.

Finally got around to taking a few pics of my new downstairs 5.1 setup...

Aperion 533-T, 534-VAC, 532-LR, SVS-PB10, Panny TH-58PZ700U, Pio Elite VSX-92TXH, Xbox360, StudioTech stand, and Bluejeans cables. Ended up just a little bit over budget but I have to say I couldn't have matched the speakers and stand any better if I had tried:

I can't tell you what a resource this forum was in putting this all together. Thanks for those that spend so much time educating others on all this stuff. Otherwise I'm sure I would have ended up with ALOT less performance for my money...

BTW the Aperions are great and sound better and better as I get them fully broken in.

Only thing left is BR vs. HDDVD....

Very nice setup you have there!

I have those speakers in my setup and I'm completely satisfied. They sound amazing to me (with movies and music). I took the 532's over to a friends house that has the 633-T's and we compared them. We were blown away at how good they sounded with music. They didn't produce quite the sound stage and obviously didn't have quite the range (especially in the low-end), but man we weren't disappointed. I felt very good about my purchase considering the price difference.

The best part is you don't have to take my word for it. Order them and give them a try for yourself. You've got nothing to lose.

Has anyone bought a set of 532T Towers, and cut the bottom off just below the grill? Seems this would make a nice bookshelf for next to a Plasma. You'd get the added driver and extra bass response. Would be easy to remove the base and remount it. Really wish they made a 2.5 way bookshelf like the 532LR but taller with 2 5.25" drivers.

With all the good feedback here, I may try the 532T, 533VAC. I don't really want the towers on the floor, so if this sounds great, I think I'll try cutting them down. Yeah, the lost volume in the tower will loose a little bass, but should still be much better than the 532LR.

PS: Has anyone here compared the Aperion 533VAC to an Axiom VP100 or M22 center?
That's a very nice setup, Jarlaxle! I wish I had a bigger area like yours.
My HT area is in the basement about 14ft * 13ft. I just got mine setup a month ago with benq w500 and 92" screen.

I got a onkyo 705 receiver and I just purchase 533T, 532VAC, S10 and 422LR few days ago. They are on the way except the 533T which are still out of stock until next Fri.

Do you guys think 533T maybe overkill in my setup since I have a small room? I could still change the order to 532LR instead.

Ivan - Thanks, I've really, really been having fun with this. I'm sure there are much better setups out there but I can tell you I'VE never had one this good

In your case and if you can swing the extra cost I'd start w/ the 533's for 30 days. If you feel they are overkill, you can always switch out for the 532's. Aperions return policy really is outstanding.

I will say this, the 533's were certainly easier for me to get set up. The stand aperion sells for the 532 was a little bit tricky, especially if you are using moderately heavy gauge wire.
