You should really try out Aperion's live chat. They are extremely helpful. I've been on there several times. Not saying someone here can't or shouldn't help you, but just offering another resource.

The Onkyo sets the trim on my little S-8 too low for my taste, too. I think the Audessey software is just excessively polite.

Rule of thumb is you don't want more than about 10dB relative variance between your sub and your fronts, I believe.

I spoke with Jason Hicks at Aperion. Apparently Audessey is known for setting the sub levels too low. He suggested I set it to like -7dB or -3dB. I'll try that tonight when I get home. Ultimately though it comes down to what sounds best to you in your space.

I guess I was just wondering if I could have gotten away with the S-8.

Ok - after much searching i ordered and delivered today are 2 533-T's, the S-10 and 634VAC to hook up to my Denon 2808. It'll be replacing my Bose AM-15's but the 534SS' are on backorder until February
Looking forward to hooking them up to see how it works w/the receiver and my 73" Mitzy.

Whew! Watched Casino Royale tonight, and that scene toward the end where the building in Venice is sinking...man there is some deep rumbling bass in that and the S-10 was rattling my whole apartment. It was pretty awesome!

Well, I thought I'd wave hello as the newest member of the Aperion family. My venerable, 20-year old JBL's finally died (the speaker cones literally came off), and the el-cheapo freebie surrounds and center I had for 10 years just weren't doing it anymore. And I never even had a sub. So my darling wife suggested that we get something of good quality, built to last, for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

These speakers sure fit that bill! I got the 532 Cinema package: 532-LR mains, 533-VAC center, 422 surrounds, and the S-10 sub. I never knew what I was missing! I've had them about a week, and they sounded great out of the box. I'm not sure what improvement I would honestly be able to tell after the break-in period. Honestly, it's a night-and-day experience. MY wife was shocked by the difference in sound quality. She asked me why I hadn't bought these before!

Thanks to the folks here! I found out about the Aperion brand from these forums, and decided to go with them based on the positive comments I heard here. So, thanks everyone! Once again, AVS has given me more than I can give back, but I will continue to try.

Thanks again!

Any chance you got to test how they sound with video games?

Old speakers need love...even when new, young love comes along. Find out how to get them re-coned/rehabilitated. Those old school JBLs deserve lots of love.

Enjoy and have fun!

and could not be happier. Movies and Music sound excellent. I have 2 633 T's, 1 634 Center, 2 634's surrounds and 2 532's for the back surrounds to finish my 7.1 set-up. Have a Klipsch 12" sub. (Kept the sub from my previous 5.1 set-up). All is running through a Denon 3808ci A/V receiver and I just hooked up a Toshiba A35 HD player. All I can say is wow. Watched HD movies yesterday King Kong in Dolby Digital + Dolby II and it sounded like the Ape was coming through our back walls. Have listened at Klipsch 5.1 at a friends house he had reference series like twice as much of a set-up and the dialogue was not as crisp as the Aperions. I have not missed a word or sound with this setup. Would recommend Aperions to anyone wanting to try a great speaker for home theatre and if you do not like you can send back on their charge.
Wow, that's a nice system! I strongly advise against visiting the subwoofer forum on AVS now, or that holdover Klipsch box will not last long.

Let me put it this way... When playing Forza Motorsport 2, I am constantly looking over my shoulder for the car coming up beside me. The sound quality is that precise, even on the surrounds. Team Fortress 2 on my HTPC sounds incredible as well.

Game performance: Outstanding!

@ zoney99,

You can do that? They lasted long, but they didn't sound what I would call spectacular. They were hand-me-downs from my father's old rig.
Apologies for taking this off topic - Aperions are very nice and offer good value. Nothing says that old school JBLs were the best sounding/best value but they're have some nostalgic value and I would hate to see them wind up in a dump! It's pretty easy to Google search "JBL replacement speakers" or "JBL speaker repairs."

Again - I don't want to hijack this thread so accept my apologies.

Haha...I find I do that as well when I am playing SKATE. I'll hear a car or some music or something.

Congrats! What did you order? Send us some photos if you can. I will post mine soon.

Two 532-LRs, two 422-LRs and a 533-VAC for the center. I went with a Hsu 2.3 for the sub which I have installed already and am very happy with. This setup should really make a difference in my HT setup. I will be like a kid on Christmas when I get home tonight.

I'll post some updated pictures once I get everything into place.

Thanks for all of you here in this thread. Reading your good reviews of Aperion pushed me over the edge and made me decide to jump in.

I see you have a 7.1 setup. Are you keeping some old surrounds? Dropping back to 5.1?

I'm keeping my in-ceiling surounds for now. Somewhere down the road I may replace them with some better quality speakers, but I think they will be sufficient for now.

Where are you going to fit the fronts in? Looks like it might be a squeeze.

They are on top of the entertainment center for now but I'm not sure they'll stay there. There is a cabinet made for them in the center (if you look at the link in my signature the speaker cabinets are on the bottom row to the outside of the "2") and I think I'll try that to see how it sounds. It may sound better than having the speakers on top of the entertainment center and not directed right toward the listening area.

My wife wasn't home when Fedex came yesterday, but thankfully one of the neighbors received the package for us. That was the good news. The bad news was that the neighbors left and didn't get home until 7:30 or so. It was hard for me to be patient that long.

I got the center channel and the fronts hooked up last night. The cabinet for the center channel is exactly 19" wide and that was the size of the center on Aperion's website. Before I placed my order I did a chat with their customer service and was told that I should have about 3/8" to work with. It wasn't quite 3/8" to work with, but after taking the door of the cabinet off to allow the speaker to go in, it fit perfectly! Almost like it was built just for the 533-VAC. With the center and fronts ready to go I listened to some music and then watched some clips from Cars (the kids where there so I had put on something they could watch) and then after the kids went upstairs I watched some clips from Transformers. I was very impressed with what I heard.

Sometime this week I'll have time to get the surrounds up and then get it all calibrated. Then I can really test the sound.

As a side note, as others have mentioned, I was very impressed with the packaging and the slick black look of the speakers. They look incredible!

I recently got my PS3 connected to my Windows Vista PC, so late last night (early this morning) I got to listen to some music (MP3's). It sounded so smooth and crisp. Very impressive. I imagine it would sound even better if I listened to the CD itself (not sure what my MP3's are encoded at), and at an hour when I could crank it up a bit without bothering the neighbors too much.

Speaking of bothering the neighbors, there was a scene in Eragon last night that had my whole apartment shaking and rattling. That S-10, even at 1/3 power and calibrated at -6dB, cranks out some bass. I ended up bringing it down to -9dB because it was actually a bit too much bass.

My wife complains that the deep bass hurts her in the chest, so I had to lower the settings, My S-10 still kicks butt at the lower settings. Gotta love it.

I have my 634 center, 533 fronts, S10 sub and loaners from Aperion since my 533SS's are on b/o until February - but they're not hooked up since i'm waiting for my banana plugs to come in to make it SO much easier to hook them up to my Denon 2808. Once that's done - I'll be posting pics and letting this thread know what i think comparing them to my AM15's previously used.

I want these in the black and the 7.1 setup. It will be awhile though. I don't even have my tv yet (should get it delivered Wednesday!!!) and I also need to get a receiver. Right now I plan on getting the Onkyo TX-SR705. Can't wait!!

Merry Xmas everyone. For my Xmas present, my girlfriend bought for me the Aperion 533VAC center speaker. I am replacing a 10+ year old Acoustic Research AR 205vc. The AR is actually pretty good for how old it is. I recently tested it against the new Bose VSC100 and blew it away in my opinion.

Upon hooking it up to my Sony receiver, the sound, I thought was good, but not great. It didn't sound all that better than my AR. I read that out of the box, the Aperion is good but not great. I know there are some break in time required. That's fine. My question is this: how much better will the sound get after the break in period? 50%? 100% 200%. Can anyone that has this same speaker let me know? So far, to be honest, I can't tell the difference between this Aperion and my old AR. It has more bass but other than that, I thought it would be crystal clear. I'm not disappointed but again, I wasn't blown away either. I've read so many positive review on this speaker. I thought it would blow away my old AR. So far, it has not. Thanks for replying to me

I was first looking at the 533 when speaking w/Aperion but decided (with their guidance) to get the 633 (and reviewing the specs I can see why). More pricey, twice the weight (if that means something), bigger, and MAN does it sound sweet sweet sweet. I know this doesn't answer your question but maybe stepping up to the 633 will be the 'blown away' you were looking for. I've had my system set-up for only 5 days so I also don't know how much 'better' the quality will get once they 'settle in' (if i remember is something like 50-200 hours of 'playing').

I think you're referring to the 634. I don't see a 633 in their line up. You may be right. The 634 may be a lot better than the 533. It is certainly more expensive. However, I have a small room. it's only 12x13. The 634 would be overkill.

Yup - the 634 (i was going by memory and you see what happens there!). It probably would be overkill.
