I did a lot of reading and talking to people at Onkyo, Crutchfield, and Aperion, and they all agreed that the 708 has more than enough power to run the speakers. My room is 22x14 (308 sq feet). If you have a similar size room, you should be fine.

if u get a chance and dont mind could u post pics of your set up? (and anyone else with about the same measurements) ive got the same sized room and have been toying with just leaving that as a game room and putting the theater in the larger rec room area and have been having the 5t or 6t debate as well.

thanks....its a two story family room type of deal where a full system is too much but the factory speakers are killing the dialogue.... but its risk free so i guess ill try it out AFTER the wifes birthday 10/18.... ive already done the
TV for her bday thing a few years back so....

Sure, not a problem. I'll forewarn you, I'm setting the room up width-wise, not length, if that makes sense. Basically, the TV is at one end of the 14 ft side, and the prime seating will be at the other end. The plan is for a pool table to go in the final 8 x 14 area. This is not a dedicated theater area as much as a social room, but I wanted speakers big enough to fill the whole area. But I'll be sure to post pics!

I am finally ready to replace my ancient bose201 speakers in my HT. Living in Canada one of my obvious choices was Axiom, as they deliver for free here, but then I noticed that Aperion is shipping free to Canada for the rest of the year. The Axiom speaker was considering is the M3 V2 ($330/pair), but now I am also looking at the Aperion Intimus 6B(345/pair). Both speakers have very similar specs, weight, size...I think the Aperions look nicer though. Actually both of these companies seem to use the same marketing strategy to sell their product. I was wondering if anyone could coment on the 6B's, or if anyone had ever compared with the Axioms. In any case, I'm sure either would be an upgrade over the bose, but I would rather not order them both and then go through the hassle of sending one back.

Umm.. those Aperions are $345 EACH.

Oops, my mistake. Thank you for that, imagine my surprise when 1 bookshelf speaker arived at my door. Actually, I notice that they also have open box 6b's for $293 EACH. So this puts the Aperions in the same company as other $600+ bookshelves. They must be very good speakers, assuming that you are getting what you pay for.

Ask and you shall receive. Also, I just want to say how pleased I am with these, and they've only been playing for about 30 minutes. This was my first REAL set of speakers, and the difference is amazing. I put on my Eric Clapton concert in DTS as a comparison to my old HTIB, and I actually got goosebumps during the opening solo of Layla because it sounded so real. Big props to Aperion...these will not be returning anytime soon!

I have everything (5Ts, 5C, and 8D sub) set to 80hz, as I believe that's what the books called for. If someone is reading this, please let me know if this is wrong. I also used 16 gauge wire. The TV is not hooked up yet to the Onkyo, so I haven't been able to run Audessey. When playing my iPod I did notice what appeared to be static from the 5T woofers at first, but I can only attribute that to either breaking in or the iPod cable, as in DTS mode it all but disappeared.

Sorry for the poor light, I just used my Blackberry. Obviously the room isn't decorated yet, but you get the idea! Off to the left in the picture will be where the pool table goes.

EDIT: The TV and such IS level...these pics are slightly to the right of the dead center seating position.

Nice setup. You should not be getting static at all in the speakers, it is either defective which is not likely but possible, or the static was always there but you could not hear it, or it is coming from somewhere else. I use 12 gauge wire.

Cheers

I agree with you that it's not the speakers. Whatever it was, it's gone now. I played the same recording again and didn't get any of the distortion. All is good now. Thanks for the kind words. A question on the gauge of wire - is there a minimum that should be used? The 16 gauge was monster compared to what my old HTIB (I know, not a fair comparison), but if it will do just as good a job as the 12, I don't see a need to replace it. The wires are only about 6 feet as they are now. Thanks!

Yes they are great speakers! You need a little power with them - I have the Onkyo 805 and that works great for me in an open 15x 20 ft room. Give them a try!

The "What is in the box" for the Zona speakers makes it clear to me. Pretty cool that a company actually pays attention to what people think!

I'm looking to put in a nice home theater system in my family room in my new house. It is about 20 x 18 in size and open to other rooms (kitchen, etc). I was looking to do an in-wall setup on a moderate budget. How is the following:

Front and Rear R/L: 6IW x4
Center: 6-LCR x1
Subwoofer: undecided
Receiver: Onkyo HT-RC260 (if it well work well with this setup??)

How do these compare with Axioms and Def Tech for in-walls? I know wattage wise the aperions can go up to 200 which is quite nice compared to the competition. Def Tech has the disappearing (no bezel) in-walls which is appealing but also a lot more expensive.

Will these be sufficient to get good sound in that size room? any other suggestions? The family really wants in-wall so there's no wiggle room there. Is the receiver good enough? As you can tell I'm new to the audio world.

thanks!

16 gauge should be alright with only a 6 foot run but I would not even consider anything smaller. When it comes to AV gear bigger/more is always better. If you decide to buy 12 gauge in the future go to monoprice.com. Their price can not be beaten and they have very high quality stuff. When it comes to speaker wire you want to make sure it is only cooper rather than having aluminum for the return and it should be low or no oxygen copper.

Enjoy your new toys.

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Has Monoprice become safer than I've heard in the past? I heard a lot of horror stories of people ordering from them and then magically getting billed for stuff in the future. Their prices are great, but it's not worth it if they screw with me. Oh, and the wire I used is all no oxygen copper.

I am running the same setup as you are..I have 4-5T's, 5C and the 8D. I am running both 12ga and 14ga wire. I had to go to the 14ga to accommodate concealing the wire in some wire molding around a doorway.

The 16ga wire may work, however it will require more power. If you are getting the sound quality from the speakers then I would not be concerned. If you are encountering issues then going to the 12 or 14ga may be warranted.

Enjoy your speakers they are truly impressive, I have had mine almost a year.

A few months ago Monoprice.com shut down their site for a few days to credit cards and and have since re opened. They claim to have cleared up the problem. I purchased some speaker cable from them and have had no problems. and got the cable for a very decent price.

I have bought HDMI cables, Component cables, Sub cables, Network cables, adapter cables and 200 ft of speaker wire over the last 3 years. Never had a single issue or have heard of anybody else having a problem. Many people here and in Aperion's forum highly recommend them as well. Just my experience however.

Cheers

I have a pair of 4BP surrounds...is it OK to place an object (1 pound at the most) on top of the speaker...due to space concerns I was thinking about placing one of my Creative computer speakers on top of the 4BP and was wondering if that would in any way hamper the sound or physically damage the 4BP...if so I can move the Creative speaker elsewhere

Titus,
At one pound, I would not worry about it. Aperions are solid.

thanks

the 4BP's seem to need the perfect placement to get excellent surround sound...I've been moving them around trying to find the sweet spot...first had them a few feet behind me and 7 feet high...wasn't really getting optimal sound that way so I moved them directly to my sides at ear level...better but still not ideal

finally moved them to the sides but slightly above ear level and slightly behind me and now they are perfect
