While waiting for my Aperion VG speakers, I have more time to do some research on other speakers. The speaker that consistently got high marks, both from reviewers and owners, is the Salk Songtower. It costs a little more than the VGT, especially with the ribbon tweeter option, but it looks nice.

Has anyone audition the Salk Songtower before? How does it sound? How does it compare with Aperion VGT?

Hi...Need some confirmation ( or alternate suggestions ) here please. I have a dedicated HT room of about 12X19 and looking at the following config... Most use will be for movies with occasional sessions of Floyd..U2 and some Classical stuff..

Intimus 5C
Intimus 5B Bookshelf (front)
Intimus 4B Satellite ( Surround)
Bravus 8D Sub

Do you think it will work well together as a system or should I change some items (perhaps go with New Versus with the 8inch sub)...? I am on the ready to place order page..

That's a great setup for that size of room. I had a similar setup a couple years ago.

Thanks...! What would be your recommendation for the AV receiver...?
I started with a similar setup and use a Denon 1910. I now have 4t's and 4bp's.

That Denon would work great...there are also great options from Onkyo, Yamaha, and Pioneer. Depends on your needs and budget.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding ordering from Aperion. I know that the Verus Grand Towers and Center or delayed until 4/12/11 and I know that they won't charge the credit card until the items ship. Does Aperion let you know right before they ship? I am curious because I need to transfer funds and I need to let my bank know that I'm making a large purchase. What have you guys experienced?

They tell you after the order has processed, not before. There isn't really a warning system.

All you have to do is call and they can tell you when your order will be shipped--the people at Aperion are all very helpful.

As long as it's convenient I would recommend making the funds available about a week early around 4/5 and you should be all set to go.

But if we do end up getting a decline on your card we will give you a call.

Also if you haven't placed an order yet I would recommend doing so as soon as you can, to ensure you get in on the 4/12 date.

If you need to talk things over please don't hesitate to give us a call at 888-880-8992, thanks!

Law of diminishing gains?

Can someone shed some insight on the following upgrade scenario?

Current Setup:

Onkyo 607

6T - fronts
5C - center
4BP - rears
4B - front heights
Sub - None

Room is about 10x20. The center/fronts are 9ft away from primary listening position.

At this distance - Would there be any gains by upgrading to the 6C center? or would those gains be offset by having a "weaker" receiver w/ 90 watts per chan.

I have the system tuned to 75 on the spl meter, and play PS3 games @ 35-40 vol, and watch movies at 40-50 vol.

I cannot have a sub in my apartment, and teh 6T's go low enough to draw complaints as it is.

I'm considering getting 6C's so I can use them as my speaker stand really... ! but in all seriousness - Please advise!

I can not speak directly about the 6C, however I can say that there was a significant improvement moving from a 5C to a VGC center.

I would think that you would see a definite improvement in your center channel quality by moving to the 6C. I also think you would be able to balance your system better and not have to dial up your speakers to achieve quality sound from the front stage by having matched speakers.

The 5C was a good center speaker, the VGC is a great center. I am sure the same could be said about the 6C.
The 6C is a great Center, but I'm not sure how much you gain at a 9-foot listening position.

I would say that you would gain not only in SPL, but also in the quality of sound. You should get a fuller sound from the 6C versus the 5C. The 6C was the 1st Aperion speaker I purchased and noticed a night and day difference between the JBL center I had previously. I would totally recommend it if you choose to upgrade.

Would the 6c be a good match with 4t's?

I think the 5C would be a better match with the 4T's.

I have the 5c now and I'm just wondering if I should get the 6c before my trade up time is up.

Just curious jonLavs - what JBL did you upgrade from? I have a JBL system currently, but I've had my eye on Aperion as a possible upgrade. Any thoughts you have on the comparison would be appreciated.

If you are looking to upgrade, I would give serious consideration to upgrading your 4T's to the 5T. Moving to the 5T will give you more midrange and bass, a more balanced front stage and fuller sound than just moving to a 6C. I honestly think you would get more bang for your buck moving to the 5T's versus a 6C.

I already upgraded the 4t's from 5b's. Thats also much more expensive to go to the 5t's.

It's also really about your usage, unless your room is big I don't think you'll hear a big difference for movies between the 4T and 5T, it will really be most apparent for music.

So if movies is your main application I think the center channel upgrade makes more sense.

Also the bass response between the 4T and 5T is pretty much the same, it's really the midrange where you get a nice bump in performance with the 5T.

My room is not big. 1800cft. i sit 10 feet from the center channel. I do worry about the 6c matching up with the 4t's sonically.

How many times can you upgrade within the year?

Aperion Forum issue (their website)

If I try to access the forum from the Community drop down banner, I get a message stating the forum is being upgraded. This is how I have always accessed the forum.
However, I can access it from the Community Home page. Discovered that by accident.

OoooohhhhWeeeeeee, what's up with that...whats up with that?

Looks like we have both been busy. Still haven't decided on a sub yet, I have an Onkyo 808 and am also interested in the dipoles to go with VGTs and Center. I just added an Apple TV to my Samsung 6800 LCD and 6500 Blu Ray.

Were your speakers shipped? Will they arrive this week? Keep us posted.

Pending receiver upgrade will leave me with a Marantz SR82000 receiver that I plan to move into my bedroom. Primary use will be music at first so I'm looking for some tower speakers. Room is 20x13 and the speakers will be positioned along one of the 13 foot walls and will need to be fairly close to the wall, the front of the speakers will only be about 24-25 inches from the wall.

I've ruled out the 6T and Verus Grand and am considering the 5T and the Verus Forte.

I'm thinking that the 5T would be the best choice due to the ports being on the front of the speakers allowing them to be positioned closer to the wall than the Verus Forte.

Am I correct in assuming that the 5T's will perform better closer to a wall?

I'm interested in the Medium Cherry finish and I noticed that the 6T is not available in that finish. Is that because the Intimus line is being phased out in favor of the Verus line? If so, would it be prudent to buy a 5C center channel speaker now while it's still available?

Finally, for a 20x13 room would the II 8D be the appropriate sub to use with the 5T's or would the II 10D be the better choice?

Thanks ... Tim

I'm looking forward to receiving my Aperion speakers on Saturday. I've ordered the Forte towers, Forte center, and the Verus satellites. My Onkyo 3008 arrived yesterday.

I have a very awkward living room and my Axiom M3s and Onkyo 605 just weren't cutting it in this new house (10 ft ceilings). Even the 15" Titanic Partexpress sub is getting somewhat swallowed up.

The dimensions are roughly 14X24 feet. The biggest upside is that there is no wall behind the couch, it opens into the kitchen/ eating area (open concept to the max!). I have a completely open/ uncluttered attic and basement for wire pulling but the TV resides on an exterior wall.

I have found exterior walls much harder to pull wire through due to the insulation.

I lucked into this house after the initial deal fell through post custom-build. I wish I could have found it before the sheetrock went up. Sigh.

Fortunately I sit only about 8-9 feet from the plasma so it's not a huge soundfield that needs filling.

I've ordered some Sanus pole stands for the sats, in wall wire (just in case), boom mic stand, and mic adapter for the Audyssey mic.

It's gonna be a late night Saturday!

When I last checked, my VGTs and Center were set to ship on Mar 8--next week--so hopefully they are still on schedule. I'll be sure to post when they ship.
Thanks. I'm also waiting for my order to ship and started leaning toward the SongTowers, so your original post caught my eye. The SongTowers, by the way, were just named for a minor award (but still were named) in this month's "The Absolute Sound" magazine. I'm eager to hear how you like the VGTs.
I just noticed that the Intimus 6B is no longer listed for sale and I was wondering if that a permanent thing? or should I expect them to come back?
Thanks!
